Has anyone read Cynthia Harrod-Eagles? She was commissioned to write the history of England from about 1450, in a very readable novel form, in twelve books. She is now up to about thirtysomething and just ending the first World War. The series is based around a family from York and is quite addictive!

It is gripping, I don't read crime novels or thrillers except when detailed to do so on greaders! I didn't want to read this one but now have the other two sitting on my book shelf read to be read later in the year.

Muffy my daughter reads like you do. I used to but find I have slowed down a bit now. Will still manage to read a lot on holiday though. Sadly can't take that many as they make the case too heavy!! I have the white queen waiting to be read here too. Couldn't read it as I was reading the Girl with the Dragon tattoo.

Elizabeth Chadwick books are great, I have several waiting to be read, sadly they don't seem to appeal to the reading group so mine don't get read. If you like historical novels try some of hers.

Well TW if you ever make it out here there will be plenty for you to read, only a couple of Stephen Kings but quite a few of James Herbert and the ilk and I am sure I can get you interested in sci-fi. Trouble is would you have time to read and talk about Shroppies lol

I like historical novels Cat, especially the 'timeslip' type. I also like Stephen King and the like.

Jean I like Nora Roberts have just stashed a few away in the tent. No they are going to my Robert Jordan friend.

Muffy you have made me sort all my books out that are dotted around the van.
30 of them moved to tent and 26 stay in van unread. lol
at this time of year we get handed so many books from people going home. It's fun lol

Have been an avid reader since the age of five, and have had to part with a lot of books through lack of space, now only buy if I know I will read more than once, otherwise I am the librarys most wanted reader! One who uses her tickets to the utmost. I still take nine or ten every three weeks from the travelling library, and still finish up borrowing from others in the street! Do you like Nora Roberts books?

anyone read any of elizabeth chadwick. really good, some historical fact plus imagination. also helen hollick wrote a couple of good ones about harold and the conquest. i visit the mobile library - no fines, and the librarian tells us of anything he thinks will suit. also have a back up selection for emergencies like my 2 month summer trek around england, a double edged trip, record offices and reading what joy!! val

Yes Muffy, I endorse what Kay??? says. never be ashamed of buying a book. Wish more people did, and read them.

Julia don't think there are many of the Scarpetta novels I haven't read ( in paperback)
Mind there was the 'Wheel of time' by Robert Jordan (fantasy Scifi) we had up to book 10 in hardback ...got given book 11 (yikes how many more) then he died .....but the whole lot is going to be finished and luckily for us someone we know is also reading so she has lent us 12. and will hand the last 3 books over to us also .......
