No Daff, Bill still reckons not! Paul is going to have to compare them using his photographic gizmos when he gets around to it.

This one will rumble on for a while, I am hoping another cousin might come up with the answer...lol

Two second cousins and I are all trying to work out who the men are in a Bennett family photo too *groan*.

I wish people would write on the back of pics who is in them!

I am the custodian of all OH's family photos and aged MIL does help but she can't remember who they all are...lol

I reckon it was an *in family* adoption.... Lolol!! My mother's cousins were brought up by my grandmother.... their mother died young, and dad was killed in the war. But they always knew they were cousins, and there was no formal adoption.

I have a photo of my grandmother, with a lady referred to as *Aunty Maggie* but she wasn't one of my grandmother's sisters... just brought up from babyhood in the household. It seems to have been quite a common occurrence!

So... did your nephew sort it out, Sue????

Aaaah, OK Jim is definitely Francis Bennett
John is definitely Gt. grandpa Ostler and Jack is definitely his son.

Joe (we think) is Francis Bennett's father.

Two completely different families but connected via my mother being adopted by Grandpa Ostler in 1919 and my father's marriage into the Bennett family in 1932. They could well have know each other for a long time before they married.

Clear as mud! I am going to send them off to nephew who is a professional photographer and he can do whatever he does and I'll blame him...lol

Thanks all

Ok lets give them names.

The trio, from left to right, are John, Jack and Joe.

The duo are Joe and Jim.

So Joe is in both pics, he's the older guy with the moustache.

jack and Jim look alike, but I don't think they are the same person, possibly siblings.

John has uncanny similarities to both Jack and Jim. He seems to be older, so he could be Jack and Jim's dad.

Jack and Jims mother could be the sister of Joe? That's how I'm seeing it.

So, check out possible wedding dates, as I think the duo one is at a wedding party, judging by the buttonholes.

Right, let's make this clear. Chap on the right as you look at it, of the trio, is the same man as chap on the left in the duo.

Chap in the middle of trio, looks a lot like chap on the right of duo. I don't think it's the same chap, but could maybe be brothers?

Duo are both wearing buttonholes, could it have been a wedding, as both are suited and booted too?

I agree with Daff that chap right of duo, and chap centre of trio, although not the same person, do look like chap left of trio. An older brother or father maybe? those three are clearly related, perhaps the other chap with the moustache is brother in law to chap left of trio, married to his sister, who would be mother to chap middle trio and chap right duo.

I done it... had to have the photos side by side... and still got me left and right muddled.... also got muddled with your Mr x... is he one of the moustached gents? back right in the 3 person photo?

Is the un-moustached gentleman an Ostler??? Cos he is actually the spit of the older Ostler, back left... the lips are identical.. shave off that tache and they would be very alike indeed, and he is also the man in the dark suit in the 2 person photo.

But... the second moustached gentleman, back right, is the same as the moustached gentleman in the two man photo.

That is as clear as mud... but am high as a kite.... so I shall look again tomorrow if you like, but you'll have to remind me... I am on the Big Guns, lolol!! ;¬))

I just can't get a grip on this. My cousin the in States reckons tough call but not, cousin here says could be. Aaaargh!!!!

I have no damn idea who he is!! that would help for a start! I am going to assume he is a Bennett (my paternal line) then from the possible photograph dates try and work out if he would have met the other family about that time.

I can see what you mean about the nose...lol

Dating the pics is a bit difficult but think that the trio was about 1920/25

The duo about 1930

For friends on FB could you please look at the pics under 'for Bill to compare'.

This is really strange, the photo with three chaps in are, my adopted grandpa Ostler and his father and Mr. X

The other one was sent to me by a newly found cousin last week and shows my gr. uncle Bennett and what looks like Mr. X

This has completely screwed my mind. Do others think Mr X are one and the same?

Thanks
