I just googled him Julia and he has 70 books though a few of them are collections of short stories. I didn't realise he had written that many - I knew the three you and Budgie mentioned and know of a couple of others (that's what comes from 'once upon a time' owning a secondhand bookshop), but not the rest.
I think the Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner was the first time I saw Tom Courtenay and thought at the time what a great actor.

This talented author has died today aged 82yrs. he was, the author of 'Saturday Night and Sunday Morning' and 'The Lonliness of the Long Distance Runner', both made into films.
