I was thinking about the price increases for the GRO certs from £7.00 to £10 or when GR went up to £9.95 from £7.50.

It's hard to word but did the original price ie £7.00/£7.50 feel like £10 when you first started paying it? Do you feel that £10 has devalued over recent years to that extent?

You mean in terms of inflation?

Using www.measuringworth.com 2003-2008, £7.50 in 2003 was the equivalent of £9.13 in 2008 when compared to average earnings. Data not available on that site for 2009 or 2010.

Was £7.50 'expensive' in 2003? It would probably depend on your disposable income.

Using all other data bases on that site

£8.89 using the retail price index
£8.49 using the GDP deflator
£9.22 using the per capita GDP
£9.50 using the share of GDP

I couldn't have justified buying many certificates when I first started researching, because there were more demanding needs in day to day expenses. Even now I find out as much as I can before I send off for a certificate to confirm findings....
So in some ways, £7 was not so easy to find, as buying at today's prices, when I have no dependants.

The difference with GR prices is a bit more complex. Whereas GRO charge us all the same, there is still a variety of charges on this site for the same access.
