Eldrick Report 19 Apr 2010 18:18

If you have a minute, an opinion on whether Nietzche played an important part in the development of an existential approach to ontology, or would you be more inclined to ascribe that to Martin Heidegger....?

UzziAndHerDogs

UzziAndHerDogs Report 19 Apr 2010 18:19

pmsl @ Eldrick

if anyone can Rose can

Rambling

Rambling Report 19 Apr 2010 18:30

Nietzche, Keirkegaard, Heidegger....existensialism, post modernism, nihilism.... all too, too passe to comment...

Now growing veggies THAT is relevant to our existence ( mine in particular lol) ...

Uzzi do you mean as in 'should we import produce or grow our own... and have strawberries in summer only and cabbages in winter' ? :) or 'home soil' as in dig up the back garden ;)

Four UK cities are competing to become the first UK city of Culture in 2013, Birmingham, Derry, Sheffield and Norwich.

For the winner, 2013 will become a year-long festival of culture, resulting in some high profile events being held there instead of London, such as the Man Booker prize giving, and such like. It will also bring in extra revenue to aid regeneration of much needed areas, for visitors and residents alike.

Much encouragement was taken from Liverpool's status as European City of Culture, with £800m extra to feed the local economy, new buildings, events and celebration have all resulted from this. It is hoped that the winner will have much the same benefits on a similar scale.

So what's your opinion on that? Who should win. (no need to ask me, I live in Norwich...lol)

Teresa I am in the happy position of being totally impartial on that as I've never visited any of them :) mindyou as I have travelled through Birmingham and seen some of its dilapidation from the train, I think there is certainly a case to be made for giving it all the help it can get...

btw...you know we were discussing the connection between elections and allotments? LOL great article in one of the weekend supplements about the Brown's veg' garden at number 10 ;)

Rambling Report 19 Apr 2010 18:53

No lol but pretty much everything else :)

I had to laugh at this though

Sarah Brown...

" I used to make ( Gordon ) lay the table....until I realised one day once all the guests were seated , that the reason i didn't recognise the tablecloth was because he'd laid all the places on top of a lovely checked.....duvet cover"

Rose it was should we (you) grow your own on home soil (UK) as in private growing or market garden

Do people buy " home grown" being grown in the UK (like Shroppies) or do they buy ...Icelandic lettuces ..

UzziAndHerDogs

UzziAndHerDogs Report 19 Apr 2010 19:04

( sorry my net playing up)

TeresaW

TeresaW Report 19 Apr 2010 19:09

Ah well, at least it wasn't a 'poppies' duvet cover, now that WOULD be spooky lol

Uzzi, apart from the stuff which simply cannot be grown here, like bananas, I do try to buy british veg, and local if possible (with the exclusion of Jersey Royals, I'll buy them anywhere lol). I'd love an allotment to grow my own.

And I still refuse to buy Spanish celery...lol

Uzzi, From a taste point of view, there is nothing to beat what you have grown yourself and picked fresh, and though i do buy imported on a whim sometimes
( like strawberries out of season ) , I usually regret it because the taste isn't there.

I try and buy local produce, but if it is something like banana's i will buy the fair trade in preference.

There's a good 'farm shop' near here, and I find things keep better from there, Nothing can better the taste of potatoes from the garden though :)

I'm in need of seeking out a worthy opinion! This looks like the very place! What is your opinion on "Nanny McFee and the big bang"?
