Llamedos Pam Report 19 Apr 2010 11:47

Has anyone else had a problem with long waits for certificates. I ordered a birth certificate on 31st March and was informed that the delivery date would be approximately the 8th April so when it had not arrived by 14th I gave them a ring and was told they were about 5 to 7 days behind so that covered that date covered them for that delay, it has still not arrived so I have just tried to phone again and have been told by a machine that as they are very
busy they are going to cut me off and they did !!!!!

A friend ordered a certificate the same day with the same delivery date of April 8th and received hers on the 9th , like her I also supplied the full reference details

I had to wait for a week or so after the despatch date they gave me - and then it didn't give me the information I had wanted!

I ordered two certs on the 31st march, dispatch date 9th April.
Tried to phone them this morning like Llamedos Pam and was cut off by the machine.
I added an extra five days on to the dispatch date as suggested by the GRO website which took me to a new date of the 15th taking in to account weekends.
So from Thurs 15th April until today, that's five days in transit.
Are they sending them by pigeon ?
Will try phoning later.
I have only ordered one other Cert before so am a little nervous in case i have made a mistake!

hi there i also ordered 3 certs end of march and still not received them. it doesnt help living on an island as there is no plane for the mail and it comes by ferry which is a bit slower. guess we will all have to be patient a bit longer.

It has been reported by a number of sources that there are huge delays at the moment following the rush to get orders in before the 6th April price rise.

There is probably little point in trying to chase or phone much before the end of the month.

I think we should be aware that the problems with air travel might be having an effect on postal deliveries. So much of our post now moves around the country by air. The good old mail trains are not on the tracks these days, with the mobile sorting offices.

Still patiently waiting.

Sorry Joan, I thought a good deal of it was moved around by air these days. I am obviously wrong.

Joan,

The only reason I thought about mail going by air was East Midlands Airport is in our local tv area and sometimes appears when there are problems.

I have just googled and found this:

http://www.eastmidlandsairport.com/emacargo.nsf/Content/Customer_RoyalMail?opendocument&CustCat=AircraftOperators&CustCatD=Aircraft%20Operators

It does mention mail being moved around to outer regions, including Aberdeen for the north of Scotland. I think it is a big distribution warehouse.

I spoke to one of the ladies about an overdue DC and she told me that there had been a rush before the price rise, but that they had also been inundated with requests from the USA because of the American WDYTYA program.
