Until about a week ago I didn't get any adverts (flashing or otherwise) on the sites I visit. I haven't changed any of my settings but I suddenly there they are. They are on my Yahoo main page, here, Ancestry etc etc.

Any advice as to how to get rid of them would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks - Chris

Thank you everyone for the suggestions. The thing is though that about 2 years ago I downloaded IE 7 pro because I was advised that would get rid of the adverts, and it did. I still have it but no idea why it has suddenly stopped working.

I am SO sorry CuspofCapricorn. I have been really busy for a couple of days and not been on here. I had forgotten that I had this thread up and needed to check for any more replies.

Thank you again. I have done as you suggested and googled for an update without success, but I'm not terribly good at that aspect of the computer. I shall try and pin my hubby down and ask him to show me how to search for updates.

Once you have used Firefox for a while, you won't want to go back to IE, but you need to keep it up to date as the odd website sometimes requires it. Even better is Firefox with Adblock plus as adverts are virtually eliminated.

IE6 is all but defunct and many web sites will no longer support it.

There was a problem when IE7 was first released but this was fixed nearly two years ago.....! Everyone should really now be running on IE8.

Another reason for having two working browsers is just in case one stops working and you can't access the internet. Unlikely but it did happen to me a few years back and I was able to upload and re-install using my backup browser to get access.

Thank you again CuspofCapricorn and also Inspector green pen (I wish you had short names by the way, it takes ages to type lol:))

I have decided to print off all your suggestions so that I can explore without having to refer back all the time. I shall try them all one by one.

A big thank you again for all the replies.
