Makes it bl**dy diffcult to get some hazel for pea sticks then!!

I wish we weren't all compared to the lowest common denominator!!

I have both a mallet and an axe by my back door - I wonder what the police would think they are there for?
The bow saw is currently in the shed, so would my argument that bow saw & axe are used for chopping down dead branches of an overgrown shrub be believed?
Mallet is used when I go camping - but I don't own a tent.

OMG evidence shows I must go around killing people!!!!

professional tools are a different matter as long as you can convince old bill that that is exactly what they are, and used for.....and I might add they need to be properly cased,

having a machete in case you want to chop down a tree wouldn't work, me thinks!!

on another note , as I heard it, having a baseball bat indoors to ward off burglars, it is a good defence if you have the baseball to go with it!

Good point Pat. My SIL is a chef. He doesn't leave his (very expensive, very sharp & very long) knives at work. They're in the car driving to & from work.

I carry a small stainless steel penknife always , it comes in handy if I want to eat an apple or sharpen a pencil.I also carry on the same chain, a pair of small scissors. Used to carry a throwing knife in my teens in the 50s, because I liked showing off that I could hit what i was aiming at!!

Look at all the knives that locum chef's have to carry (tools of te trade) and other trades.

Lots of men and boys years ago used to carry a penknife, what else did you sharpen your pencil with.

......so when you go for an impromptu picnic, (pick up a baguette & pate in a shop - then find somewhere nice to sit) what are you meant to cut the baguette or spread the pate with?..........

Told to plead guilty.......? Well, it's his own fault then. If he was innocent he should have pleaded not guilty. By pleading guilty, he has accepted his guilt. End of story.

And if someone told him to plead guilty against his wishes, more fool him for taking notice. No sympathy at all.

The law on knives is quite clear. A locking knife witha cutting edge in excess of 3" is illegal to carry in a public place. It is NOT illegal to carry a small penknife in your first aid kit.

An offensive weapon is a different act, and it refers to any article adapted, intended or made to cause harm or injury. It doesn't refer to knives in particular.

It's interesting to note that this man pleaded guilty to carrying an offensive weapon. If he was innocent, he should have pleaded NOT guilty. It's no use whinging on about something that you admit! The news article doesn't give the full facts, so once again, people are left to fill in the gaps and and make a sensational case out of nothing.

on a similar note, have you watched any of the Cops with cameras type programs?

once they stop someone they usually manage to find SOME thing to knick them for, but quite often there are no grounds and the "Victim" is released without charge although of course having been arrested his DNA and fingerprints are now in the database?
cynical, not I,...!!!

Looks like they were out to get him for something/anything. I thought small knives were not considered to be weapons which is why he had a conditional discharge I reckon.
