Hi Uzzi,I think you need an ally, you seem to be getting ganged up against.

I also miss the old style pubs where you could smoke in peace without holier than thou wallas flapping their hands about.

I wouldn't dream of smoking around folk eating, but believe that you eat in resteraunts, and drink and smoke in pubs.

I used to love my local,it was the sort of pub you could go in in carpet slippers and curlers and nobody turned a hair. Then the landlord decided to turn it into an "eatery" and we had to endure the stench of hot fat and chips cooking while trying to enjoy a pint and a good chat.

We also had to endure peoples spoiled brats chasing around being a bloody nuisance, one couple actually brought a week old baby and sat for four hours while it screamed.

The last refuge from kids taken away, needless to say,we havn't been in a pub for about 15 yrs now,I can smoke myself to death in peace at home.

For now,anyway.

Sandie if I go out my clothes always go to be washed not just the smoke but the yucky cheap scent and odours that hang around.
But i wouldn't dream of telling people that they can't wear their favourite scent cos it gets up my nose and even worse sets my asthma off so each to their own.
I know smoking is frowned upon but I don't ask anybody to indulge, nor do I smoke in a non smoking community ..yet they wear perfume.

Ann as a smoker I hate smoke with my food so was glad of the no smoking around food, even outdoors I smoke away from the food area.

Eddie the reason such a dangerous and addictive drug is so freely available is the revenue the goverment get from it, and they didn't realise it's danger to start with and now to make it illegal would mean trying to put a lot of old people in jail. Can the goverment afford that?
If you want to discuss alcohol then please do on your own thread.

I do n't understand why such a dangerous and addictive drug is so freely available. Surely nicotine should be a prescription only drug or only available in pharmacies. Or better still illegal altogether. Surely a drug that kills thousands of people each year should be a class "A" drug.
Now shall we discuss the other big killer - alcohol?

The trouble in Tenerife is that the bars serve food so if it is a chilly evening you want to eat indoors, but they allow smoking. I hate smoke with my food.

Puss the anti smoking in the UK pubs put a lot out of business as they don't have the weather to have an outside area.

Understand what you are all saying. I have no problem with not smoking in restaurants in fact I prefer it. (AnnieG most restaurants are now non smoking so you're safe there).

As a smoker though I do like the freedom to be able to sit in a beach bar and not feel like a leper stuck outside. They are quick enough to grab the tax on smokes.
