I used to watch this sort of program Carol, many years ago, but now find that it is far too distressing and makes me too angry...... and as there is nothing I can do about it.....I switch over. Many of these programmes are made for the 'shock' factor.

I know Susan, but really find it quite distressing to see these tiny children suffering, can only think of my 3 grandchildren, and even if my daughter was not a good mother would never let this happen.

It appeared that mother and grannie, who I have to say were also fat, seemed to find it amusing.

and what about the dad of the son with hearing problems who just kept denying that his smoking had anything to do with the problem "until they can prove it"
Made me so angry

Yes Lady in Red forgot that one, another word that comes to mind 'pig ignorant'. Feeling really bad about all these poor helpless children that are suffering at the hands of ignorant parents, and it can only get worse.

Exactly Kemp you have the choice as an adult, but parents have the control, and how they can watch their children go through this is beyond belief.

Susan, it wasn't just a 'shock horror' documentary.
It was highlighting how much of the NHS' resources was wasted by 'unecessary illnesses' in children - caused by parents!

What about the bqy who drank half a bottle of vodka in an afternoon - every week!
He (amazingly) stopped when his mum stopped giving him money!!

My youngest had to have some (healthy) baby teeth out at the age of 12, as her second teeth couldn't push them out and were growing in the roof of her mouth.
She was the eldest child at the hospital dental clinic - the majority were under 5, having rotten teeth out. It was very sad.
I'm proud to admit that neither of my babies (aged 27 and 29) have even a filling!!
Neither does my 8 year old grand daughter.

I was very shocked by Leon, the overweight 5 year old. Not only did he eat in 2 hours what it would take me at least 6 hours to eat, when they were walking home, mum and gran were enouraging him into the wheelchair!

Exactly Maggie, all my children ages 32, 31, and 30 have never had a filling, which I am very proud of, I was a wicked mother they only had pop on special occassions, and only limited sweets, and are all slim and healthy. What they now chose to do is up to them.

Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 14 Apr 2010 05:18

It was sad to see those little ones having teeth pulled out. We had a girl living near us who lived on sweets, her Mum would give her money to get sweets on the way to school instead of breakfast and she had to have her front teeth out cos they went black, when she was about 5.
I was always careful of my son's diet and teeth and yet that girl has the most beautiful set of adult teeth going and my son's are a problem, inasmuch as he had eye teeth that grew across his gum rather than down and the dentist left it too late to do anything. He had to pull some out for the adult teeth to grow into the spaces as the baby teeth weren't on the move at all, but didn't get it right with the crooked teeth. Consequently my lad has two too few teeth so gaps between his two front teeth and next to each of them. When I was young I had a wonky eye tooth that had to come out cos it was growing too high up, and I had a gap I could put a sixpence through when I was young, supposed to be a sign you would be rich lol What do you know, my gap closed up and I am poor as a church mouse.
A small jaw and wonky teeth run in the family, my brother's two front teeth crossed over each other so they had to come out and he had false ones from an early age.

At least a few of the parents listened to the doctors but the others wouldn't realise they were doing wrong, would they? That lad was huge for a five year old, tall as well as overweight and it was sad to see his Mum pile up his plate and discourage him from walking about.

There are so many parents who have no idea how to bring up their kids and it's such a shame as often the cycle continues when those kids produce their own babies.

What really got to me was the fact that they have their units running at 97% BUT if it was another unit ..ie Cancer they have to take the money away from them to run that teeth and ENT unit coz of dim mothers who like to give their kids sweets !!!

Its about time the goverment stepped in and laid down rules about can and shouldnt be done ...but I guess thats all down to the fact that the kids would suffer not the dim parents who give out the food and sweets to the kids

Its all down to whos going to take responsibility for the children and from last nite it sure aint them parents
