I just love musicals, any kind, no matter how old they are. My children do too.

Oh you've set off some memories for me tonight. Late 60's / early 70's on a Saturday afternoon my job was to clean the windows then I'd settle down with my mum to watch black & white film on beeb 2 - all those glamorous women in gorgeous gowns and those sexy men (who usually turned out to be gay). Then, after the film was finished we'd do the "big" crossword together in local paper.

Memories.....

every time it comes on tv its a no no in this house

I've lost track of the number of times I've seen Sound of Music. The most underrated song from that film is "Something Good". I remember as a child desperetaly wanting the dress that Julie Andrews wore in that Summer House scene whilst singing that song

first I saw at cinema was Mary Poppins-but i was only 4 and didn't really get it! Then really liked Annie (!)- My 1st live one was Joseph-still a favourite-and one of my favourite as probably got to be Godspell which I was in 3 runs of over a space of 15 years-the first time I was 7!!! Now I love Les Mis and of course Mama Mia. Just love musicals-but would rather be in them thn watch them.

Dizzi, High Society is not all that old! But I am.

Does the Wizard of Oz count as a musical? I loved that, particularly the tornado.

There were lots of good musical films in my young days. With Deanna Durbin, and ummmm...... (showing my age, getting forgetful).

"The White Horse Inn" (on stage, not film I think) was on in Auckland when mum was expecting me. I was overdue. The doctor phoned dad and asked if it would be alright if he went to the White Horse Inn. Dear dad didnt know it was a musical and said 'yes, but dont come home drunk'.

Another one I liked and I don't think has had a mention was The Student Prince. Edmund Purdom with Mario Lanza's voice.

the first record i ever bought was 'my fair lady'.
i played it over and over again until i new ever single word.
it wasnt until some years later i watched the film and sang along to the songs i had learnt.
i was a bit puzzled that not all the songs were on the l p, but ofcourse they wouldnt be able to to put ALL the songs on there.
it still makes me smile when i hear anything from this musical.

Hmm, had to think about this a bit. I've not been to see many musicals to be honest.

But, for a film musical, it just has to be Oliver. I could watch that over and over. (I'm actually not sure if I want to see the stage version now).

For stage, the one I enjoyed the most was 'Buddy'. All about Buddy Holly and his music. Brilliant.

Gosh!Where would I start!!! I was brought up on musical comedy.Have seen so many...My mother loved them and from the age of about 4 I was taken to see so many.Remember seeing Ivor Novello in "Perchance to Dream" Even saw Gigli in something.Mary Martin in South Pacific.John Hanson in the Desert song.Could go on and on.
Later years..Cats,Starlight Express,Joseph ,Les Mis etc etc.
I played the piano from aged 7 and had to play all the selections from Oklahoma,Annie get your gun..........

I love Musicals!!
When I was younger i think that Oliver was probably my favourite or maybe the wizard of Oz but now I love Les Mis, i have the soundtrack in my car!! my favourite stage show i have seen was Phantom closely followed by Les mis!!
I have also been to the Lion king for which the costumes were amazing!!
Far too many really, so long as there is a good story line and some good tunes then I'm happy!!!

The most seen is Jesus Christ Superstar, as much as I love that my favourite is Annie which I have seen either in film or on stage about 6 times now.

Sheesh, Rose (and others!), are you saying you're too young for Sound of Music??

That was the first one came to my mind -- musical as seen at the movie theatre.

Then Dizzi reminded me of all the summer afternoons spent in the basement rec room watching Fred and Ginger ...
