Thanks Ladies for the help. Have looked on the Argos site, and found a Bex Bissel brand for £9.99. When OH has had his siesta, well he has been on the allotment all morning, he is going up the street to get me one. Fortunately, we have an Argos in our small town.
Again, many,many thanks

If it's a small rug, have you considered a cordless, rechargeable dust buster? You can use it on your wooden floors too.We have one which sits on the wall and recharges itself on a charging station thingy. You can get wet and dry ones, for wet spills too.

Put G Tech in the argos search box

Gtech SW10 Cordless Floor Sweeper.
857/0154

That is one model they may have more. I have one and it is excellent. It is rechargeable, but lasts a couple of weeks. We have wooden floors and it does them, but we also have a large rug which sheds fluff all of the time and it cleans that as well. The one we have is an older model, but it is the best thing I have bought for ages, it cuts down the number of times I need to get the Dyson out

In fact if you put Carpet sweeper in the argos search box, it brings up eleven different ones including a manual Ewbank one for £6.99

We bought a new rug for the kitchen last week, and boy,oh boy, does it show up every crumb.
I am looking to buy a small carpet cleaner, 'Ewbank' style that I can pop round when necessary, instead of getting out the Dyson Animal. I have looked in the Argos catalogue, but they do not appear to do them anymore.
Any suggestions, please.

PS. Am going out to Cuprinol me trellis now, but will keep popping back on
