Have you tried looking at Francis Frith? For old photographs in print form, book, postcards etc you might just find what you're looking for at www.francisfrith.com

Or any of the books by B Girling?
I have a wonderful book on Marylebone (where my ancestors lived) with great photographs and history, there are others in the series, don't know if your area is covered. I think mine was around 10 pound, I got it from Amazon.

In fact if you went into the Amazon website you could search, say, Mile End history?
