Morning Lyndi, yes we watched this programme last night. It was the first of four. We, also knew nothing of Autism, but this was a very enlightening programme. Having recieved my new copy of next weeks Radio Times, today, I have marked this programme up, to watch it again.
A must watch programme

I watched it. Having worked with Autistic /aspergers spectrum children, I find it marvellous for the general public to realise these children aren't just being awkward!!

It always makes me sad to think of all the children in the past (and unfortunately present) who have gone through the education system being constantly chastised/mocked for being 'different'.

A colleague at work runs evening sessions for adults within the spectrum - many of whom were either never diagnosed, or were diagnosed in their teens and were failed by the education system - and encourages them to go to college.

It really got to me when the 12 year old lad spoke with such insight into his condition. He is very bright and aware of how his condition is impacting on his life and realtionships.
As you say Julia, enlightening - really glad I watched it.

Maggie, when I think back to my school days there were children that obviously had something wrong, but they were left to flounder and be ridiculed in the mainstream or sent to 'special' schools where the conditions weren't understood but at least they weren't upsetting the mainstream. Sad,but at least hopefully this happens less and less, due to understanding of the conditions and diagnosis, those with insight and dedication who work with these children, and parents who fight so hard for their children.
