I got a message back as I signed the petition about little Jayden who was deemed to have been born too soon to be resuscitated so was just left with his Mum after birth and given no attention or assistance at all despite him taking breaths. She had to watch him die as she begged for help.

We received a petition asking:
“We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to change the law to allow children born alive the right to life.”
Details of Petition:
“Children born alive before 22 weeks are currently refused the chance of life saving treatment due to the low viability rates. The majority of these babies are classed as misscarraiges or still borns and their parents refused a birth certificates. We want the law changed to allow any child born that makes an attempt to surrive alone for at least 15 mins to be given treatment to help sustain life if the parents wish this for their child. We also propose that birth certificates be awarded to all children born alive regardless of gestation. The reason the stastics are not available for babies born before 22 week gestation is because they are not recorded unless parents fight for the certificate.”

Read the Government’s response
The Government has not issued specific guidance on the resuscitation of extremely premature babies. Clinical intervention in such situations are made on a case-by-case basis by the healthcare staff concerned.
The British Association of Perinatal Medicine published guidance in October 2008 entitled ‘The Management of Babies born Extremely Preterm at less than 26 weeks of gestation: A Framework for Clinical Practice at the time of Birth’, which is based on the latest evidence and best practice.
The section relevant to babies born at 21 weeks of gestation states that if gestational age is certain and less than 23+0 (i.e. at 22 weeks) it would be considered in the best interests of the baby, and standard practice, for resuscitation not to be carried out. If the parents wish, they should have the opportunity to discuss outcomes with a second senior member of the perinatal team.
However, the British Association of Perinatal Medicine standards are recommended rather than mandatory. Decisions about the viability of very premature newborn babies are always very difficult, and in such circumstances doctors and other healthcare staff are guided by acting in the best interests of the child.
Classification of a premature child as a miscarriage or still born is also a decision for the healthcare staff present, not a matter of Government policy.
The Department of Health is aware that some parents find it very distressing that they may not register the birth of a baby born before 24 weeks. However, it is important to recognise there would also be parents distressed at the possibility of having to do so. The Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Society’s Guidelines ‘Pregnancy loss and the death of a baby – guidelines for professionals’ suggest that hospitals offer a certificate of birth to the parents. The guidelines also provide advice for professionals on providing documentation for parents who wish to make their own funeral arrangements for their baby.

The March from Trafalgar Square (London) to Number 10 Downing Street is going ahead without fail. I will need as many people there as possible, bring your friends, family and children we need to show them the effect it has on the whole family.
Meeting time is between 11am and 11:30am in the North Terrace of Trafalgar Square.
The Press and media will be attending as well as hopefully some high profile personalities including MP's.
We are also doing LIVE TV INTERVIEWS a press conference and interviews with national and regional newspapers. We have a great opportunity to show them a united front so please help me to do this.
This is our chance to show exactly how much we want change and how much support we have. If everyone could approach their local MP's and ask them to attend the march I would be very grateful.
