I AM recycled....I'm a recycled teenager!

We now have 3 bins which makes it much easier than filling bags, then trundling off in the car to the waste centre.

Black for everyday.
Brown for Glass/plastic (everything washed out first)
Green for cardboard/garden waste (no garden though lol)

Couldn't be simpler and, for some perverse reason, I get a kick out of watching the plastic/glass bin fill up. Must be short of entertainment I reckon. Either that or I am secretly horrified at how many products we use!!

Unwanted clothes go to the recycling centre at the supermarket.

Makes us feel that we are doing 'our bit'.

Dear Joy

Hello

Try and recycle most things but there are no places to take things like batteries, old textiles etc.

Would be helpful if the local authority provided more collection points that are accessible to all.

And trying to got hold of the recycle bags at times is almost impossible.

Take care
Very best wishes
xx

PMSL Joy!!!

You could have 'coiled' him when you buried him - or did he have rigor mortis?

GlitterBaby

GlitterBaby Report 5 Mar 2010 23:54

We have to find space for 3 wheelie bins.

Green - for general household rubbish
Blue - tins, paper and certain plastics - but no cardboard
Brown - garden material - but not soil or turf - certainly no veg peelings

Council do spot checks on bins

Glass can be taken to bins at some supermarkets

I didn't bother recycling when we had open boxes.....green for paper and blue for bottles and other things???

the council changed the system to wheelie bins. grey for landfill, blue for recycling.

the recycling lives outside my kitchen window. We can put virtually anything in it, except food waste, polythene and butter/yoghurt pots. At the end of two weeks it's brimming.

Hmm...I wonder how much a python would weigh.?

Watch out for the new 'chip' system being introduced Joy.
It weighs the rubbish for each household.

JoyBoroAngel - rather bemused when you say you "don't have the time".
I think I'm just over the border from you in Stockton. We have a bag for plastic & cardboard and another for paper. Perhaps we're lucky in that we have an enclosed porch where we can keep these bags. Then, outside, we have a box for glass and metal. If we choose we can get a lid for this box.
We recently lived in an upstairs flat which just didn't have space for recycling bags but the council gave up lidded boxes, free of charge, which we kept outside. Because they had lids we never had problems with wildlife.
Don't see how "time" is an issue here?

TeresaW Report 5 Mar 2010 22:48

OMG Joy, you can say that out loud?

We'd be fined for that for sure, not just by the council either.
