SueMaid Report 13 Sep 2013 22:44

We went out and bought a new air-conditioner as the one we have has given up the ghost. It makes a dreadful rattling noise so OH rang the man who installed it years ago and asked him what he thought. He said that he didn't think it was worth the cost of repairs so we took his advice. OH also bought some tiles and grout for the laundry as it is need of some work. As it isn't in the house it does get neglected and can often be a dumping ground so OH is going to tile the floor and then we will buy a new cupboard with plenty of storage. Looks like he will be busy :-)

Hello Sue,

At least you know that you have lovely Spring weather just around the corner.
It was wet here today, tomorrow is forecast mainly dry, but Sunday there is an Atlantic storm coming in, with gale force winds and torrential rain.
Such a shame because the Great North Run takes place on Sunday.

Hello from a cold, wet and miserable little part of Aus. I knew the lovely sunny warm weather wouldn't last - too early in Spring. I don't mind though as the lawns are very dry and we've had to water the gardens.

Tec - lucky you meeting Rambling Rose :-)

I can imagine how annoying that was to not be able to get into Dubrovnic today. Hopefully you will have a great day tomorrow, Linda.

Tecwyn Report 13 Sep 2013 21:54

Linda I hope you can catch the early bus into Dubrovnic in the morning, so you have a nice long day there. I was wondering if there was much damage caused during the war there.
The visit to the nurses went much the same. They are disappointed that is showing no sign of improvement yet, but the antibiotics finish tomorrow.
This is obviously going to be a long haul, but I've been here several times before.

I did manage to get round the Co-op, albeit slowly, and painfully :-( but at least it's done.
Also I met Rambling Rose..................... :-D

Annoyingly we have had a change of plan so are back on the beach again

There are two bus services to Dubrovnik a local bus at 9 or 11am, or a tourist bus at 10 which takes you closer to the old town. We went out at 9.45 to get the tourist bus, but annoyingly today they have changed the large bus to a minibus because it is now low season. There were a goood dozen people who couldn't get on. We decided that 11 would be too late, so we will get up early tomorrow and get the 9am service bus. That takes you to a bus station on the outskirts and you then get a shuttle bus right to the old town. It will give us more time there.

I don't have any bother at all with my varifocals. I couldn't cope with bifocals where you only have the two strengths of lens

Huia

Huia Report 13 Sep 2013 07:50

I have bifocals and I find it safer to go down our stairs backwards.

Carolee

Carolee Report 13 Sep 2013 07:34

Thanks Linda. I have multifocals, top for distance and bottom for reading, there is no visible line that separates the two. Its scary when you walk down stairs, its like you've had too much to drink lol

Laughing is good for the soul, so I'm told.

Enjoy your day, chat later.

LindainHerriotCountry Report 13 Sep 2013 07:19

That had me laughing as well Carole.

I have no idea, I wear varifocals, the only other option are bifocals, were you have a line between the reading lens at the bottom and the distance lens.

It is time to go for breakfast now, so we can catch the bus, bye for now

Carolee

Carolee Report 13 Sep 2013 07:09

Whats the difference between a multi and a varifocal ?

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 13 Sep 2013 07:07

I shall go and look at that one

Good morning, Linda :-)

I read your post after reading one that Mr Magoo posted on Australians and I was still laughing from that when I read your post, it was like a continuation :-)

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 13 Sep 2013 06:57

It looks perfectly fine to me Carole :-D

I realised it was gibberish and was editing as you posted

Carolee

Carolee Report 13 Sep 2013 06:54

Oh, you changed it :-D

Berona, I agree with Linda. That sounds like a polo. To me, a skivvy is an under garment :-)

Carolee

Carolee Report 13 Sep 2013 06:51

Linda, I'm rolling on the floor laughing :-D

Your last sentence...what????

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 13 Sep 2013 06:42

That sounds like a polo neck sweater Berona.

I have been to Dubrovnik before TEC but ideas when I was pregnant with my son and he is 34 now. I don't think it will have changed much apart from extra bullet holes from the recent war. This hotel was shelled and destroyed by a ship blur in t h e bay. It was in ruins until it was rebuilt in about 2008.

Sue we flew to Split about three years ago an stayed on an island just off the coast but I can't remember its name, I will have to Google it

Edit it was called Brac except it has an accent on the c. There are lots of islands, it is very nearby pretty

Berona Report 13 Sep 2013 00:09

I know I'm late but had to come in to explain what a skivvy is. Carole- do you have a different name for it in Victoria?

To me - a skivvy is an outer garment - not under garment. It is usually made from woven cotton; has long sleeves, plain front and back, (like a T-shirt) but has a ribbed collar which folds over for double thickness, and covers the neck - like other types of ski clothes. Same style as a ski-sweater.

I tried to get here earlier, but was waylaid. Hope all are well and Tec - I hope you are resting that leg.

Hello everyone , it's a bit late so this is just a flying visit .

Tec , I really do hope that your poor leg begins to show signs of improvement very soon . I'm pleased to know that you are going to have a visit from your sister next week , it won't matter a jot to her if you are not leaping about like a mad thing......lol

Goodnight Tec - I hope you manage to get some sleep tonight <3

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 12 Sep 2013 23:40

It's great when you see things in the garden waking up - I love that. I have never grown dahlias, but see no reason why they shouldn't be grown in tubs. We have to lift the tubers here for the winter, as they don't survive the cold wet winters.
I used to live next door to an old chap who stored his in dry ashes from the fire. He had the most spectacular dahlias every year.

Well I am off to bed now - see how long I stay there :-(

Enjoy your day Sue,

Hello Berona, Persie,

Goodnight,
Tec :-)
