I just got a text which simply said "eve". Apparently she can type her own name now and had wanted to send me a text after she watched her mum texting someone

I am glad that you had a lovely day yesterday TEC. I hope that your sister will be able to just you more often.

I am the oldest of my siblings, my sister is just two years younger than I am but my brother is nearly nine years younger. I am very different from my sister, I get on well with her from a distance, but she is so different from me that I don't think I could live in close proximity to her. We do try to talk to each other every couple of weeks and are making big effort to keep the family together now my parents gone.. My brother was only about nine when I went away to college and I never really came home again. He doesn't live too far from me,so we see each other every few weeks and phone.

I was sorry to hear about your father Jem, that was terrible accident and it left you on Houston at a young age

That Croation wine is obviously very potent stuff :-D

Persie I think there are advantages, and disadvantages to having siblings. My daughter is an only child, and upon reflection I think it would have been better if she had a brother or sister. I think this becomes more important in later years.

I am the eldest of five. As previously stated I have always been very close to the sister that visited yesterday. There have been huge gaps, often years, between seeing each other, yet when we do meet it is always like yesterday we last met, and pick up where we were last time.
The other three siblings are alien to me, and we have little in common, except parentage. They in turn get on very well with each other. So we are divided into two camps as it were.
Being the eldest, I of course had a lot to do with them all when they were young, and did a lot of "looking after" until I left the family home at an early age. The youngest of them wouldn't remember much of that time.
Another odd thing is that the sister I am close to, and I, are the only ones interested in family history. The other three are not remotely interested.
I do know families where all the siblings get on very well, and that is marvellous, sadly it doesn't always happen.
Interesting subject though.

I will have you know I was sitting on a founder. This is a 5* establishment, so as there was no handy chair, the founder of the hotel knelt down so I could, sit,on his back

Berona, I actually wonder if I will make it to the same age as my father.. My mother died when she was 70.. her next birthday coming up next month she would have been 99.

What an awful way for your father to die Jem.. I hope he was already overcome by smoke so was not aware of what was happening.

You sound like you had a great chatty time with your sister Tec.. I often regret being an only child and having no siblings to get along with but then on the other hand I think how badly behaved my Sister-in-law has been over the years but I guess she is one out of the box. Tracey Barlow is a saint next to her.

Hello Sue...

Cheers all Persie

Good morning from me - late again. Still no rain here - in fact, we have been told to expect a top of 27. Don't know it that will happen, though.

Persie - you and I have been strolling down the same memory lane. My mum would have been 108 on 17th. My dad would have been 113 on 30th August. It's hard to imagine it, isn't it? I am now older than both of them were when they died.

It is nice that you get on so well with your younger brother Sue. Strange how that happens despite the age difference.

Well time for bed,

Enjoy your day Sue, hope you get a rest after the chores, and Persie,

Sleep well Jemima,

Hello Berona :-)

Goodnight,
Tec. :-)

My younger brother and I are very close. We look alike and have the same sense of humour. Our personalities are very similar. He is 9 years younger than me but we've always been the two closest in the family.

Hopefully you will see much more of your sister now she has retired.

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 17 Sep 2013 23:25

Yes she was pleased to see me, going by the hug she gave me on arrival, that almost squeezed me to death :-D.
It is amazing. She is eight years younger than me, which means that she was only eight years old when I left the family home aged to sixteen to live with my aunt, my mother's sister. As she got older she always kept track of me, and wrote to me regularly when she was old enough. She and I are very alike, and like the same things - whereas my other siblings are "different" in many ways.
She said that now she is retired she will visit more often.

I can imagine your sister was equally as pleased to see you Tec. I can just see the two of you catching up with all your news.

I hope it all gets a good blow on the line Sue.
I've got a machine load to do in the morning, but I think it will be wet tomorrow, so I'm afraid it will be the tumble dryer.

SueMaid Report 17 Sep 2013 23:02

It gets that way, Jem - that's why I value an empty house now and then.

I'm up now, Tec and I've put a load of washing on. It's nice and breezy outside so a good day for sheets and towels :-)

Good Morning Sue,

Still in bed? :-(.

I'd have thought you would have been out there jogging around the block by now :-D.

Yes we will be eating leftovers tomorrow. My BIL is a big man, and I assumed a big eater, but apparently not :-D oh well, better too much than too little.
Had they been going back to Yorkshire I could have packed them up a picnic to eat on the journey, but they were going to an hotel not very far away, and were having dinner this evening :-D

I envy you your empty house Sue. My house is never empty- My husband is a semi-invalid and is not in work. My Grandson is also home most of the time when not in school. Sometimes I feel like I'm never off duty- always on call! :-|

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 17 Sep 2013 22:43

Hope you start feeling better soon.

I have the house to myself today which is becoming the norm for a Wednesday. It gives me a chance to give the bathroom a good clean and wash floors. I can then sit and read in peace :-)

JemimaFawr Report 17 Sep 2013 22:36

Don't blame you Sue :-D

I went back to bed for a couple of hours this afternoon. I don't do it often, but I have been feeling really tired and run down recently.
