Hello all :-)

I didn't ring the Dr's surgery until 4-15pm today, I asked if there was any cancellation appointment's available and was told there was one for 4-50pm. I went and the Dr has given me strong antibiotics and an inhaler. She said my chest has a horrendous rattle, she said as well as having pleurisy ( rightly diagnosed by Linda, Sue and myself ) I have a very bad chest infection :-(.

Tec I wish they would sort thing's out for you, it is disgusting that they have allowed things to get so bad :-(

Sue you will probably be busy with all your guest, hope you all have a lovely time together :-)

Linda Eve sounds like a bright little girl, maybe she will take after her grandma and become a teacher :-D

Good to know that children still have "real" books, as against electronic reading, computers, Kindle etc.
I don't think the Kindle will ever replace the feel of a proper book in your hand.

Being computer literate is very important these days Sue. Eve is very good with the ipad already. As her father is a software developer and her mum is a research scientist, I am sure she will soon know far more than I do

My grandchildren all have loads of books and read well. Their parents read to them and as they are all avid readers I think that sets a good example. Drew and the twins play board games and Aiden loves museums. That isn't to say that they don't enjoy the computer and their games but it seems to be balanced.

Good Morning Sue,

Looks like you will have an exciting day ahead of you all. I expect Aiden will have recovered from his journey and be ready for some fun today.

Hello Sue, I am glad that they arrived safely. I hope you are cooking up a storm for breakfast

Bedtime stories are such a lovely part of the day, it is so sad that lots of children don't get them

I didn't have many books Persie, but any that were given me were really valued.
Loved the Public Library from the time I was old enough to go there. I think that is why I have so many books now - I look at them on the book shelves and they are like old friends. I kid myself that I will read them all again one day, but I doubt I will.

Hello everyone - just a quick drop in before the household starts stirring. How lovely it is to have my Hobart family here. Aiden was very tired but excited. We are so lucky that we get on so well with Aiden's mum and that she feels comfortable in our home. She and my daughter get on so well.

I still have my "Mother Goose" book.. It is not one of these flash books with coloured pics.. in fact all the colours in it are from me colouring it in.. I spent hours in this small hard back book.

I have been at kitchen afternoons and school birthdays where they passed the broom handle around and whoever ended up with it had to do a nursery rhyme and there were to be no repeats. I was in my element .. won it every time.. I could think them up forever.

I do the literature questions on Trivial Pursuit. I lived in a fictional world, was always given books for birthdays and Christmas. I wanted to be like Katy in " What Katy Did." and just stay in bed and read.

I wonder if parents read to their children these days?

Your games in the dark sound like good fun Persie. :-D

Linda - can we have a video of you doing all the actions of the nursery rhymes :-D

you could put it on You Tube :-D

Hello all

Tec, as promised earlier, I'm back to see how you are progressing: although from the comments you seem to be still suffering with the ulcers. I do hope that the dr can do something for you very soon :-)

You can't beat the old games Persie and a good old sing song. It is so sad that todays youngsters don't know any nursery rhymes

Eve likes Hickory Dickory Dock and Incey Wincey Spider, but you have to do all of the actions

When Evan was little we were playing I spy and he was into shapes at the time and he wanted a turn and we all had to spy something beginning with S.. and the two older girls and my OH were guessing all sorts of things in the room.. then it clicked..

I said to him is it S for circle...... yayyyy Nana's got it. The oldest girl was cross and the younger one thought it was so funny.

It's amazing what fun you can have when the power is out and you are doing baby sitting in the dark.

It's very difficult Linda. My doctor doesn't take calls, only by arrangement. Better to contact the Sister in charge, to ask if she requested the prescription, and what did he say?
I will phone in the morning

Goodness knows Tec, they probably plonk them in front of the TV all day

Eve is doing well for her age Linda, making learning fun is the secret.

My daughter tells me that so many children enter school with absolutely no concept of letters or numbers. That makes me so angry. What are the parents doing?

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 3 Oct 2013 22:00

I hope you are going to phone the doctor tomorrow to ask why he hasn't given you a better prescription Tec

We did speak to Eve for a short time on Skype, but it kept cutting out. I have been googling and have changed something in the settings, so I hope that might stop it cutting out. She was having a bath and was making words with large foam letters which stick on the side. She can find the letters and make her name.
She found a g for me and an m for mummy and a d for daddy, but she can only do the initial letters. She stuck all the numbers in the correct order, so that was good

It isn't that long since I had a good sort out of clothes Persie, but I went through the summer clothes and removed things I haven't really worn
