I don't think our millionaire neighbours would part with anything.

"Oh look Mabel, the peasants are having to sell their belongings" :-D.

I used to think that my daughter and SIL were very strange. They have a minimalist home. Looks like they've packed everything up ready to move , to me.
They have two ornaments, both that we've bought them. A pair of ceramic hares, because she likes hares, and a bronze figure of a horse. That's it, nothing else. Very little furniture, just what is needed.
But are they wrong? when I look around here, I think they live a very ordered and uncluttered life.

On the other hand - I like my things around me - everything is a part of my life. :-D

There you go then, organise all of your neighbours and you could make a fortune, especially if you invite the millionaires and ask them to bring some old bits and pieces of antiques

Oh the other hand, the visitors wouldn't recognise them

Impoverished Pensioner - sounds good to me :-D

I read somewhere about a whole street that held their own kind of boot sale. They put tables up outside their houses, and made lots of money, but best of all cleared lots of clutter.

Hello Amanda, it must be an awful time for your daughter, life does indeed have to go on and she has plenty to keep her busy, but in her quiet times, she will be sad

A bric a brac sale sounds like a very good idea Tec, you could put a sign up saying you are raising money for impoverished pensioners :-D

Hello Amanda,

It is good that your daughter appears to have come to terms with her sad situation. There will be difficult days ahead for her, and for you, her mother. Thankfully, she has you for support when she needs it.

Hope that little Isla enjoyed her 2nd birthday, and that Bella enjoys her 3rd. How time flies.

My leg is about the same, thank you for asking. It's going to be a long job, so I'm trying to ignore it. It's a bad tempered spiteful beast :-D.
As you rightly say, we just have to get on with what life throws at us.

Linda we also have ornaments that breed when our back is turned. We have a cupboard full of ornaments, nic nacs, vases, presents that Great Aunt Clarissa bestowed upon us.
I think I will set up a table outside the house and have a house sale when the visitors are around next summer.

Thank you all for the kind messages and e-mail cards . Your words of comfort have been a great help to me x

Although nothing physical has happened in my daughters situation yet she does appear to have come to terms emotional with the loss ( or at least she is carrying on with day to day tasks normally , keeping busy etc ).

Life goes on doesn't it , no matter what it throws at us .

Today was Islas second birthday , so we had her tea party here . Most of " the clan " popped in , so it was chaotic ( as usual ) , OH has just finished hoovering all the bits of food up that the little ones managed to spill off their plates into every corner of the house .
In ten days it will be Bellas third birthday but thankfully that is not happening here ..... lol

I haven't read back through the thread so I am hoping that everyone who was poorly is now feeling better .

Tec , how is your leg ?

I seem to have lost my emoticons :(

I will be on my way Tec as soon as i have finished here. i have just been through the books and put a large pile on the landing for OH to look through and retrieve anything he wants to keep, the rest can go to the charity shop.

I will go through everything else once it can go back into the cupboards. There are far too many photo's in frames,so I will put quite a few of them into the photo albums and get rid of the frames. We had lots of pictures on the walls of the stairs and landing, i am going to get rid of lots of those as well. When I look round, I wonder where all of the ornaments came from, I think they must breed when I am not looking

When you have finished de-cluttering your house, can you come here and be ruthless? somebody needs to, but be prepared to be here some time :-D

I have resolved to do a mega de-clutter in the New Year. So much stuff, mainly mine, has been kept "just in case" or "that will come in handy one day"
Of course it never does, and I do hang on to the daftest things.

There is a tv programme "Through The Keyhole" in which they come into someones house and have to guess what kind of person lives there.

They would never guess in a million years what kind of person lives in this house, apart from a collector of junk, and mysterious objects :-D

LindainHerriotCountry Report 5 Oct 2013 16:20

What a lot of useless clutter we keep :-(

We have just dismantled the study and removed everything apart from the computer table. I can't believe the amount of stuff which came out of the three bookcase/cupboards. One thing is for sure, it is not all going back again. i am going to be absolutely ruthless and have a massive de-clutter. It is hard enough work now,so I wouldn't want to face it when I was older and thinking of moving onto somewhere smaller.

I have been through the cupboards not that long ago so most, but not all of the things in there are to stay, but it is the book shelves which are going to bear the brunt of the clear out. There are a few sentimental books I want to keep but apart from that there is no point as if I want to know anything, I immediately turn to the internet

I need to persuade OH to be as ruthless in the garage as well. After mum died, getting rid of all dads junk from the garage and sheds took twice as long as sorting the house out

No Sue - I'm never in a strop.
Just tired of dealing with an inefficient and pathetic system.

Hello Persie,

My life is one long weekend too :-D I never know what day it is until the Duchess asks me, then I have to think about it :-D

LindainHerriotCountry Report 4 Oct 2013 23:05

Retirement is good Persie :-)

When we went to look at the carpets the other day, I was still feeling ill, so couldn't really be bothered, i just scooted round and chose one range which came in various shades of brown. I chose the top one from the display, Today i thought that I should have a better look and also bring the sample book home to make sure it was OK. Having done that we decided that I had got it right first time, so I think just chosing it on first impressions is the way to go instead of spending ages deliberating about it
