Hello all,

In contrast to some Eastern States, it has been so cold here in SW WA that we have lit our fire :-( Mind you, I'd rather that than what is happening eastwards

Linda, many thanks for the update on Tec and the Duchess :-)

This weekend Is WA's Telethon Event which raises money for Princess Margaret's Hospital for Children and the Telethon Children's Research Institute. Last year the weekend raised $16 million dollars and bigger things are hoped for this year

Hello Linda. Thanks very much for the update on our Tec. Please tell him I am thinking of him (and the duchess too, of course) and I hope that the antibiotics and other treatment will mean that he is on the right track and will recover soon.

Hello Gramps - welcome to our thread. It's a mixture of Aussie, Welsh, English, Canadian, and Kiwi. I am probably closer to you than anyone else is. I'm in western Sydney - and SueMaid is in the Illawarra area. We can both smell fire where we are and I wonder if you are in the same situation - or even worse. So much for Spring - it's more like mid Summer (January). I'm not looking forward to January.
We have more people scattered around - Carole in Victoria and Allan in W.A. Even though I have been contibuting to this thread since Sue started it, I'm beginning to think I should write down who is who - as my poor old memory 'ain't what she used to be' !

Hello Gramps - welcome to the thread :-) I'm in the Illawarra.

Hello Allan :-)

Thank you Linda for getting in contact with Tec's daughter. I hope very much that Tec is comfortable and able to get some sleep while they work at healing that ulcer. He won't have to worry about the Duchess as she will be well taken care of I'm sure. Please let him know I am thinking of him <3

Aha, Tec's daughter told me he has his mobile with him, so I have been able to send a text.

He replied as follows

I am Ok, leg very painful so bedbound. Please thank everyone for good wishes. Bye Tec 8

I asked him which ward he was in so I could send a card with every ones comments, but he didn't say, I will try to find that out later on. I just realised, I could ring the hospital to ask, but I will ask his daughter when she rings me, or ask him again later on.

Edit, he got back to me, so I know where he is, he said h e is stuffed full of morphine. I hope that means he is in less pain and will be able to sleep as he is in a side room

Good morning Gramps and welcome to the thread

I have just spoken to Tec's daughter who naturally sounds very nice. She said that Tec has been on an assessment ward and was moved to one of the medical wards last night. They don't think it was a dvt thank goodness but is all from the ulcers. He is on intravenous antibiotics to treat them.

She hasn't been able to see him because of having to look after the Duchess who has had a bad chest infection, but her husband went to see Tec last night.

She is busy packing the Duchess up and is taking her back to her house today. That is just three quarters of an hour from the hospital, so she will be able to visit him and take the Duchess once she is up to it.

I was going to send a card this morning, but as I don't know what ward he is in, I will wait until Monday. He has a common surname for the area, so I wouldn't want just to send it to the hospital without the ward number in case it went astray.

He had already given my number to his daughter, so she will let me know how he is doing once she has been in herself.

Hello all. I've been here for quite a while, but you have all been so talkative, that it has taken me quite some time to read and absorb your comments.

Yes, I too, can smell smoke outside - our main road leads up to the Blue Mountains where many homes have been lost. To-day has a lower temperature and the wind is not so bad - but tomorrow promises to be very hot and windy - so the firefighters are working non-stop to try to control 82 different fires throughout the state of NSW. Yesterday, witnesses caught two girls aged 12 and 13, trying to start a fire in dead grass - not far from homes. I would want to do more than wring their necks! Most of the fires are from natural causes and they are more than enough to cope with, without having them started deliberately.

SueMaid Report 18 Oct 2013 22:34

We'll see how it goes Linda. There is a warning on the radio for those with breathing problems to stay indoors if possible. We don't have that problem but of course if it gets unpleasant we will stay indoors. We can smell it in the house :-(

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 18 Oct 2013 22:31

Mersey as lovely as it is to see you our Linda is very fussy about dust on the thread. However we do need some Smiley Dust so fling it about :-D

Congratulations to your son Sue

Are you sure you should be gardening in the smoke

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 18 Oct 2013 22:27

A problem not easily solved but at least Tec should get the care he needs.

We've a busy week so we intend doing some gardening then relaxing for the rest of the day. OH bought some tomato plants that need putting in the garden. He's a little late this year but we'll still have tomatoes for summer.

Our son is very happy as a major project that he worked very hard on has come back with a mark of 87 percent. He is now building up for exams.
