we had fog again this morning.

It didn't really lift at all yesterday.

Today it has lifted a bit, but not enough for us to see the sky. I can at least see down the street!

It is smelling "foggy" though.

That smell from bush fires is awful ........... we get the same when our forests go up.

Is there any sign of the situation easing, Sue?

Allan Report 19 Oct 2013 22:09

Hello all

Poor Tec, what a lousy thing to have suffered for so long :-(

Whilst I'm not sure if it would help as it is intended to be used for burns victims, Professor Fiona Wood in WA (but originally from Yorkshire) has developed a spray on skin. This does away with the need for 'growing ' natural skin, which can take several days.

As for the rating of the hospital, this is a subjective thing. Our local public hospital in Bunbury is constantly criticised over various aspects, yet when I have been in there I have nothing but praise for the staff etc.

Quite recently, I went to visit a patient and never thought to check on visiting hours. Even though I was outside the regular hours I was still allowed to go and see my friend.

Whatever, I still wish Tec a speedy, and full, recovery

Hi Sue

thank you ....................... we knew that those areas on or near OH's face were pre-cancerous or BCC, so it was not "news".

He just has to keep going to the dermatologist every 6 or 12 months for check-ups ............ and also take care to wear a hat or sunscreen.

Thank also re my leg .................. it seems to be doing OK. It doesn't hurt anyway!! The doc did say it could take up to 4 weeks to heal as "the shin is a difficult area" .

I've also had 1 BCC removed, and have to watch out.

The damage we did to ourselves "back when"!

There weren't any sunscreens in the 40s and 50s when I was growing up, and sunbathing!

Coppertone was the first one I remember ........... and that one increased my rash reaction to the sun.

It also smelled terrible to me! I just did not like its "scent"

I spent much of the summers in my childhood coated with calamine lotion to soothe the itching of the sun rash!

BUT no-one ever suggested that I either cover up or keep out of the sun. :-(

I find it incredible that the doctor and nurses allowed the ulcer to get to the stage it has. It was obvious there was a nasty infection but they faffed around and let it get to the state it did.

Sylvia - hope your leg is healing well.

SylviaInCanada Report 19 Oct 2013 21:49

oh dear!

But that is the hospital that he said he preferred :-(

SueMaid Report 19 Oct 2013 21:49

Hello everyone - Tec would be amazed at the number of people who wish him well. When he gets his card I hope he will be cheered by all the positive thoughts from everyone.

Linda - thank goodness you can stay in touch <3 Worrying about the reviews on the hospital :-(

Sylvia - hope you OH's ear is OK. My OH has had a couple of BCC's taken off - they haven't caused any trouble.

The smell of smoke is everywhere again this morning - sadly it is the smell of destruction. Of course it's nothing compared to what the poor people in the midst of the fire areas are coping with :-(

It is terrible Sylvia, but that sadly is the state f some of the NHS in this country. He had one ulcer, then a second which have merged into one
I googled the hospital to get the address and the new web pages all contain scores and reviews written by patients, some of them make appalling reading, the hospital he is in does not score well so I hope he is OK

I am playing with my pc. I downloaded the new revamped 8.1 version of Windows 8.
I thought it was just a quick update, but it isn't, it is a complete re installation which took well over an hour to download and set it self up. I then realised it had completely removed my virus software, so I had to set that up again

I have been messing around trying to see what is different since then and personalising it

my god!

That's huge!!!

It's terrible that the medical people have let it get so big.

Mersey, all the glittery stuff was really scratchy in the bed last night :-| OH was not amused

As I did't find out where Tec was in time for the last post which is lunchtime on Saturday here, I had time to get a nice card. Tomorrow I will copy all the comments people have made (yes I will mention you moped Mersey)

I hope the antibiotics will clear the infection, but I don't know what they can do about the hole. He said it was the size of his palm and very deep. Normally they would do a skin graft, but last time he had an ulcer, they couldn't do one because of his heart problems. I can't imagine how much pain he must be in, yet he still manages to have time for everyone and to be such fun

Hi Sue, and everyone

Linda ................. thank you for the update on Tec.

Like everyone else, I am so happy to hear that the docs don't think that he has had another DVT. I do hope that they will now get to the bottom of those blasted ulcers, and get the infection cleared up.

Please give him my love and best wishes.

Gramps/John ............. I'm the Canadian connection, though we have spent quite some time in OZ, and I have many rellies down under.

Take care everyone

Like Von, just calling in to say thank you to Linda for keeping us in touch with Tec. Please give him my good wishes Linda when you get the opportunity. His dry humour is missed on the Welsh thread. It is good news that it is not a DVT. I so hope that the fact that he has been hospitalised with these ulcers mean they will work harder to get rid of the things.

I hope the Duchesses chest infection is improving too. :-)

Hello people .

Linda , thank you for letting us all know how Tec and the Duchess are getting on . I am so pleased to know the Drs don't suspect the DVT thing , poor old boy has more than enough to contend with with the blasted ulcers . It will , no doubt , be a hugh relief to him to know the Duchess is being well cared for .

Sue , Berona all of you that are close enough to smell your dreadful fires , I'm thinking of you , and wishing you all safe x

Welcome to the thread Gramps , I'm an English person , in Norfolk .

Hope your feeling a bit better today Linda and Mersey .

I'll try and get on here again this evening to catch up .

Hi Sue :-)

Good to hear that our Tec has probably not got DVT. The ulcers themselves are bad enough without that! It's good that Linda is able to phone and text to check on his progress and relay the information to us.

It's nice to see his friends from other threads joining us to send their love and best wishes too :-)

Well done to your son for doing so well :-)

Hi Gramps :-)

Like our Tec, who is very poorly at the moment, I am also one of the Welsh that have made friends on this thread. They are a very friendly lot :-) Also, they are very funny-with Tec's clever humour pitted against the girls.

How are the other invalids today- Linda :-) and Mersey :-)?

Hi Sylvia:-) Hope that you are recovering from your biopsy. Sorry about your husband's ear.

How are the rest of you?- Berona, Huia, Persie, Carole, Diane, Allan, :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

Hope I haven't left anyone out- Love Jem <3
