Hi Linda

The police think that the material was being hidden there for use elsewhere. There is nothing in this area other then the chemical plant which manufactures titanium dioxide and has been here since 1963. The jetty is in fact the support for the wast pipes (long since removed) which transported waste to the other side of the estuary for disposal.

The company is having an open day tomorrow (Sunday) when a local politician who is now State Treasurer will be there. He's not well liked but not to that extent!!

Hello Allan, I followed the link you gave and read the story. All very odd, why would they want to blow up the jetty?

I found some very nice white chocolate muffins in the kitchen :-D :-D

Hello every one

Hi Crystal Tips. Although I now live in West Oz I'm originally from Manchester :-)

Probably no made the international news, but Australind has been a hub of unwanted police activity over the last few days ever since someone discovered a cache of explosive attached to one of the jetties in the Estuary.

They were the same explosives as were used in the UK terrorist attacks a few years ago.

Originally police thought that they were dealing with drug making so transported the extremely volatile material to Police HQ in Central Perth. It would have travelled by road. When it was discovered what the police were actually dealing with, part of Perth was closed so the material could be taken to a large sporting venue for destruction.

A second cache was found and this was blown up last night on site. Heard the explosion from our house.

Tec I hope that the change from hospital back to home is aiding in your recovery

Mersey just let me know on another thread that you asked me a question Huia.

I've not joined in this thread before because I didn't feel I belonged here, I realise it says for Aussies and friends though. I have a quite varied but loose connection. My home is near Manchester UK, lived in Liverpool UK for 3 years (added to connect with Mersey)

Distant cousin lives in Newcastle where he emigrated to years ago, which is apparently near to Maitland gaol, where my gg grandfather (on a different family line) died 10 days after landing in Melbourne. He wasn't a convict, but was tried in the court when he arrived, not found guilty of anything other than being a 'dangerous lunatic'

Does that let me in the club with a connection or am I now permanently excluded?!

Hello Sylvia,

That is a nuisance for you as I knew you hoped the test would be negative. At least you were very sensible and caught it early, so it won't be as difficult to remove it.

I am daytime baby sitting next door in an hour while mum goes to an appointment. I don't mind because the baby who is about seven months old is a cheery type who still quite happily goes to anyone. I am also going to babysit for them this evening. That will only be the second time they have been out since he was born. I do offer to sit for them, but they are still tired,so haven't had the energy to go out

Hi Sue, and everyone

a grey drizzly day today.

Tec ............... lovely to see you posting, and how nice of Shaun to send you the little booklet.

we didn't have Hallowe'en at this house ............... OH had to go out, and I don't like doing it on my own ................ I find it a bit difficult to keep getting up to answer the door, and find it painful to stay standing for long periods.

So, we turned off all lights outside and in the front rooms. Plus had only a few lights on at the back of the house. I have heard very little noise of kids outside .......... we are a corner house, so get them coming along 2 streets. I think the weather may have deterred a lot of kids. I have heard lots of fire crackers going off somewhere in the neighbourhood!

had my flu shot this afternoon at the doc's .................

................... and got the report on the biopsy he did 2 weeks ago.

It shows that the "thingy" is a squamous cell carcinoma, so I have to be referred to a dermatologist to have it all removed.

They think it will be able to be cut out in the dermatologist's office.

Squamous cell carcinoma is a cancer of the outermost cells of the skin, usually as a result of sun exposure. It is easily treatable, as long as it is not ignored and left for years.

I've asked to be referred to the same dermatologist that OH goes to for treatment of his basal cell cancers .............. OH likes him a lot.

He's a Welshman!

It's the second squamous one I've had. The last one was smaller (and looked different!), and was completely removed by the doctor so I didn't have to go to a dermatologist, just watch my skin for other "possibles".

Take care everyone
