Thanks for that Linda - OH has just made some notes for when he harvests them.

Make sure they are dry when you put them in the bags Sue, Let them lie on the surface for a short while so the soil on them is dry. Don't leave them too long of course or they will start to go green

Hello Mersey :-D

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 5 Dec 2013 21:53

I'll let OH know how you store them. I've seen the brown paper bags that our local green grocery has their potatoes delivered in so OH can ask for a couple of empty ones.

Our tomatoes are good strong plants and already have fruit so looks like I'll be bottling chutney in the new year :-)

They will last over the winter as long as they are kept in the cool and dark. Some types store better than others, sometimes you get a bad one which rots, so you need to keep a watch on them.

The shop in the centre and the market stall get their potatoes delivered in brown paper sacks which are nice and thick, so we get a couple of empty ones for ours. You can't store them in plastic sacks

My SIL tried cheese with fruit cake last Christmas and loved it. We have also had cheese with a beautiful plum bread in Lincolnshire a few years ago.

Sylvia - there are two disabled parking spaces, but apart from being always taken, there are not that near the entrance.

We have always enjoyed Christmas pudding fried in butter, but I don't care for it now.

I will try mince pies with cheese - I think :-)

Do they keep for long, Linda? My daughter had a gleam in her eye when she saw the plants. She had gone to the garden to pick some beetroot for tea. Always a bad thing to let her see what's in the veggie garden :-0

It is a northern thing Tec, as proved by Sue's OH and father

Amanda, folk lore is always right, and a beautiful sunrise is always a bad sign.

Hope you power doesn't go off. I expect you have candles and oil lamps in case.
We have two battery powered lanterns that give off a good light.
I am waiting for the 10 o'clock news to see what the latest situation is, just hope peoples worse fears are unfounded, and things are not too bad after the peak tide.
