it is cloudy, with the sun trying to break through ........ and no rain. A very nice day!


We had a quiet New Year ............ just the 2 of us. We watched some TV for the last 30 minutes of 2013, then OH went to bed, and I followed about an hour later!


Thank you all for your good wishes ............ the news was expected, but not as soon as this :-(

At least, she got through Christmas in reasonable shape, all her children and grandchildren went up, and she even managed to get to the 6 pm Christmas Eve Carol Service at the church in my avatar.

There was an area in the gardens that you would love - all pink and white tulips. Beautiful :-)

The colours are so vibrant..... :-)

The photo was taken at a Tulip Festival last October not far from where we live. They are beautiful :-)

it's not even 9 pm here ................... we're the last of the lot I think! :-)


we went from the high to the low this morning

9 am ............... hear the news that a very close friend has been made an Officer of the Order of Canada :-D :-D (OH did have a hand in this, but you don't hear whether it has been successful or not until "the" day :-) )


10:45 am ......... phone call to say that OH's sister has been taken into hospital, prognosis maybe a week ......... 3 days and 2 weeks are the extremes. :-( :-(

It seems she hung on for Christmas, and her children and grandchildren all being there.

OH wanted to spend New Year here, with me, so we have him on a plane up there on Thursday morning, returning next Monday. I'm staying here.

I will go up for the Memorial.



I sure hope that 2014 is a better year.

Oh dear Berona, you did have a bad time.

It is very quiet here, just OH and me. We will watch the fireworks on TV before we turn in. There are always lots of fireworks in the town at midnight as well

When you have seen as many New Years in as I have, they cease to be interesting and I went to bed as usual, around 10pm with the intention of reading for a while. However, an Indian family in the same villa complex as mine, decided to have a party and turned their 'music' up to full blast from 8pm, non-stop until after midnight. It wasn't my kind of music for starters - the bass went thump, thump, thump, for every CD they played (Indian music to jump up and down to) and there was no tune - just thumping on the drums. Youngsters at the party will have sore throats this morning with all the squealing and whooping they did. The noise was so loud, that the adults had to keep walking up and down our shared driveway, to talk to each other (with no consideration for anyone as they stood outside our windows and did their talking quite loudly). I couldn't absorb what I was reading, so tried to sleep, but when I put my head down, it sounded like the sound system was in my pillow! After all their cheering at midnight, they eventually turned off the stereo - and I don't remember another thing - I went straight to sleep. Of course, I awoke later than usual, but not feeling very well 'rested'.

I know I sound like an old grouch, but I'm so glad it only comes once a year! and I do mean it when I say a "Happy New Year" to you all.

I will have you know that I only had one glass of wine with dinner and I have just had some coffee
