I hope that you are OK Huia. Maybe it is time to move closer to town instead of leaving things until you are too ill to do them.
I am back home now. Esme came home yesterday afternoon. She is so much happier without the nasal tube, she was clasping her hands together and last night she was holding a toy in both hands and trying to get it into her mouth. She also hasn't been sick since the op.
Having said that, they had a very bad night with her. The hospital forgot to give them one her daily medications and for some reason hadn't given her the medicine for the acid reflux for the last two days. Her father went off to collect them this morning,so hopefully they will help. My poor daughter is in a terrible state from lack of sleep and she is worrying so much. Standing back, i can see a definite improvement in Esme, so hopefully she will settle down in a couple of days.
I didn't know whether to stay or not, but wanted to give them some space and I have such a terrible cold. When I told Eve I was leaving this morning she said, she would very miss me, which was cute. Her aunt is coming down tonight to stay for the weekend, so she will help out and I will go back if needed.
I am going to take to my bed for a sleep.

Yes, Berona, I had already decided last week that I possibly wouldn't bother with the camera club again, even though my sub doesn't expire until the end of June. I just spend too much time thinking of what photographs I am going to put in each month, and trying to get them to stick together. It stops me from getting to sleep some nights.
I don't really want to move nearer Phil. I have said when he dies I will probably move nearer to Rotorua since our son has the enduring power of attorney. It would be much more convenient. Anyway, I have at least had the warning that I need to be more aware of what is happening to me.

Sounds like you need to start slowing down, Huia. I don't mean that you speed with everything, but perhaps cut DOWN on what you do and the frequency of everything. If you find it necessary to sell up and move, do your throwing out and collecting together first, but not all at once....etc..etc. I hope you don;t have any more problems like you had, but it's a good reminder that you are not as spry as you thought you were - so you need to re-assess! Hope Phil is OK. Perhaps if you have to more, you might be able to get closer to where he is. Anyway, good luck with it all.
Linda. I still think of Esme so much. Hope that the current way of feeding her is successful and that she will be onto the way they want her to feed.

I have just had 2 days and nights in hospital. I went to the doc on Wed. afternoon with a couple of very minor, but unusual symptoms - a brief spell of feeling faint on Tues afternoon, and on Wed morning the fingers in my right hand had waves of numbness going up and down them (making it difficult to type!) and they continued when I was driving to town after lunch for the appointment with the doc. She did various tests then phoned the charge nurse at the hospital to ask if they wanted to see me. (I was feeling fine by then). The answer was to send me through straight away, as it was possibly a stroke. The hospital took blood, and did the same manual tests that the doc had, and on Thurs morning I had a brain scan. It showed some small spots that 'might' have been caused by strokes at some stage (they couldn't say when). They kept me another night and today I was discharged just before lunch (had to buy my own :-( ). I was told I could go back to Papakura in the train and drive home, but if I have any more symptoms to go back and I will not be allowed to drive :-0 . A bit awkward when I live 25 mins from town with no public transport. I now have to get stuck into getting rid of 'junk' in case I have to sell up and move to town, but I can always get a taxi in at great expense, unless I can get a special concession fare if I am not allowed to drive. Once a week would be enough, on a Monday to shop and work in the Hospice shop. But hopefully I will be fine anyway.

Hello everyone :-)
Linda that is good news - hopefully things will run smoothly with her feeding.
We have seen some awful images of the storms in Britain on the news. So many areas have taken such a battering. OH was 'talking' to his brother on FB last night and he said it was quite frightening at times. Please stay safe everyone.

I hope all the Brits are OK after the storm. I am having a few hours off as Eve is at nursery. Currently I am in the National Gallery admiring Constables The Hay Wain, well the sofas are very comfy.
Good news Esme is coming home today's, they are going to take is very slowly in getting her off the ten hour drip feeds and onto normal feeds. It means they are tied to home at the moment, but that is better than hospital

Good Evening Sue and Everyone:-) :-)
Well, the West of Wales is having a hammering! The Lleyn Peninsula (particularly Criccieth) in North West Wales is having a HURRICANE. Winds of 108mph+ . Pembrokeshire has had to close all it's schools and has told everyone not to leave their homes, as there is danger to life!
The railway services from Llanelli in South West Wales, all the way to Pembrokeshire, West Wales, have been stopped, and in all other areas the trains are on go slow.
Around the 1 o'clock mark was the worst here I think. I went outside to tie up the bin and green boxes to the shed door, and I have got to admit, I was quite scared!
There was a Current Affairs programme on last night, called WALES THIS WEEK. It was saying that there are at least 50 areas on the coast of Britain that have been "Earmarked for Shoreline Management" or Designated Areas for Abandonment. They said the cost of keeping the sea at bay for the indefinite future is too much and they have a programme for the eventual abandonment of towns and villages on the coast.
New Gale in Pembrokeshire has already started this programme. Fairbourne, North Wales, will begin the programme in 10 years time. Borth and other places on the west coast will probably be sometime in the next 40 years.
It was very upsetting to think of these lovely coastal places being abandoned to be claimed by the sea. And then there's the communities that live there being ripped apart. It's very sad! If you follow the Pembrokeshire Coastline all the way around from the North to the South, my ancestors (my father's line) have come from all these coastal places.
Well that's the news from my neck of the woods. I have been very lucky as we live quite high up and away from the sea, although you can see the sea from upstairs windows. So we haven't had the flooding that a lot of people have had. My heart goes out to all the people in desperate trouble with flooding.
Now we seem to be having a heavy hail/ hailstone downpour as we speak!
I'm sorry, but I seem to have got very far behind with reading up on what you all have been up to. I do know that Linda and her family are having a really hard time at present with little Esme having so many problems. I hope that she will improve soon Linda :-) :-) Thankyou also Linda for your continuous updates about Tec :-)
Sending my best wishes to Tec, for his continuing improvement, and hope that he will be back posting, and doing his usual sparring with Sue and Linda!:-D :-D
Sending lots of love to Sue and everyone else- Love Jem :-) :-) <3 <3

Rain, rain and more rain here Berona, you are welcome to all of it.
I took t bus this morning to the hospital where Esme is and spent most of the day with my daughter and Esme. They are in a tiny four bed ward and it is bedlam. |Esme was really tired but she seems to be very sensitive to noise and cried any time anyone talked or one of the other children cried.
She is having milk very slowly through the tube and the new venting bag does seem to be helping. She has milk for ten hours, then a two hour rest and so on. The dietician said that she is getting enough liquid volume to stay hydrated, but that her calorific intake would not be enough to replace the weight she has lost during the past few weeks, so they have put her onto some high calorie milk. Assuming she tolerates that, hopefully she could come out tomorrow.
At the moment they are doing nothing other than feeding her, so she may as well be home. The nurse who came to change the milk hadn't got a clue how to use the pump,so my daughter had to teach her how to do it.
It was very sweet because the nurse said that she was very good with explaining things and with Esme. She said that when all of this was over, maybe she should consider taking the nurses training course as she was sure she could do it. We just smiled as my daughter is a senior research scientist in one of the countries foremost research centres. Bless :-)
I got absolutely drenched going back to the bus, so I am pleased to have been able to have a shower and get some dry clothes

Hello everyone. Hope you are all well. Poor Linda - London doesn't agree with you, does it? It makes my heart ache when I read about little Esme, but please keep us informed. I'm wondering about her all the time. Also Tec - fancy anyone expecting a young man like him to go to an old people's home! Just as I thought - he has a wonderful spirit.
Diane - my condolences on the loss of your uncle. I was pleased to learn that it didn't rain on the day of your 'Mum's' funeral and that you got through it OK - but now another - will you be going to this funeral? and if so, will you see your brother again? I hope that all goes smoothly.
Very hot again here with bushfires down Carole's way this time. More homes lost. If only we could have some of your rain - you would be very welcome to some of our heat!

Hello everyone :-)
So sorry to hear about your Uncle, Diane. Not a good start to your year - lets hope it gets better.
Good to hear you are feeling better, Sylvia.
Hi Mersey - back on board I see :-)
As always - thanks for the news about Tec and the Duchess, Linda. I was worrying having not heard anything for awhile. Tec sounds determined to get home - good for him. Please pass on my love and best wishes next time you speak to him <3

I have just managed to speak to Tec.
He is much the same, but miffed that his gym session this afternoon has been cancelled because his blood pressure was too low, he has been told to drink lots of water.
There is still no bed for him in the local hospital, but he had a lady turn up today to do with the after care. She told him that as he can't get a place in the local hospital, they may put him into an old people's home while they do the assessments with a view to sending him home. He finds the though of being sent to an old people's home at the tender age of 73 hilarious.
I hope that he stays where he is until he can go to the local hospital as he will get physio in both places.
He said that the Duchess has settled down, but his daughter thinks that she is wandering further away. she still thinks he is on his holidays, but he has not sent a post card

I am sorry to hear about your dad's brother Diane, I am glad that you are better Sylvia.
I have a streaming cold, I always get ill when I come down south.
OH left for home this morning, so I have stayed behind. We took Eve to nursery as OH left and I got the bus back, I am getting quite good at working out the buses. I can use my bus pass from home, so travel free. I have to pay for the trains as I don't live in London, but I have an oyster card,so it isn't much.
Esme is much the same, she is in a lot of pain when she has milk. They are trying a new type of bag to put the milk in which is supposed to vent gases out of the stomach to relieve the pressure, but it doesn't seem to do much. When she cries, some milk comes back up the tube and their is blood in it, but they say this is normal as the stoma is still healing

Hi Sue, and everyone
Linda ............ I do hope that Esme is a little better today xxx
Diane ............... sorry to hear that your Dad's youngest brother has died, and today of all days xxxxx
I think I have re-joined the human race :-)
I even went for afternoon coffee a little while ago, and met up with the "Coffee mafia, as OH calls the 3 ladies we often meet :-)
Today is a Stat Holiday in this province ..................... Family Day
It's really an excuse for a day off between Christmas and Easter.
I'm not quite sure why ours was set for today ........... the other provinces that have a February Family Day (not all do) have it on Monday next week!
It is raining hard here, and much warmer than it was, at about +5C.
The rain IS better than the original forecast of snow, followed by freezing rain, followed by rain!
take care everyone
s xx
