actually ........................ this group were allegedly Quaker, but they almost all got married in the Anglican church.

They moved backwards and forwards from an area in Lancashire to an area in Westmorland ..................... and the belief is that was caused by religious antagonism towards the Quakers.

The husband of the bride who's birth I can't find was a long time preacher at Brigg Flats Quaker House ..................... even while having his children baptized in the Anglican church :-)

Certain first names occur over and over again ................. Cuthbert, Christopher, Robert, among them

Then there are 2 separate families by about 1700 ................ both families using the same names, and both being largely millers and farmers. And you find them exchanging mills and farms from time to time.

So it gets really messy trying to sort out who is who.

One of the Cuthberts was on the Second Fleet to found Pennsylvania in the late 1600s ............................... he HAS to be connected with OH's, but I just can't get back that far!

Interestingly ............ he was a dedicated Quaker, sailed on the Lamb in the Second Fleet .................... then died 6 months later, and his family were later excommunicated from the Quaker community for some unspecified reason

It's a very interesting family, to be honest!

Lots of Catholics in Lancashire Sylvia and they are seriously head banging

SylviaInCanada Report 18 Feb 2014 20:22

Linda .................

I think I am going to have to agree with myself that A was born as she married in 1791, even though I can't get a handle on her. No father named on the marriage cert of course.

and that B and C really did marry somewhere

It is strange because this little group all had their major events in Lancashire ................ and there are plenty of on-line parish records for their area and for their churches. Just a few gaps in the records here and there :-(

Don't forget your armbands Amanda

You could go on with the tree forever Sylvia, but it is so annoying when you can't find one of the main events for a central character

Hi Sue, and everyone

we're having warm wet weather here ....... what's sometimes called the "Pineapple Express". It comes straight across the Pacific from Hawaii :-)

i am so looking forward to hearing from Tec again :-)

Linda ............... I've been clambering around the branches of OH's tree for the last few days, trying to put "fini" to the family in the early 1800s. Not easy!

Take care everyone

Hello Linda , I'm pleased to hear you are feeling a bit better today . I was amused to read about your " pretty spare room " lol I bet it wasn't an easy job to clear a tub of glitter up :-(
It is wonderful to know that Tec is on the move , I imagine the Duchess will be very glad to see his face again . It can't be easy for her , bless her .
Fingers crossed that he can get a signal from the hospital .

I am going swimming in awhile with my youngest daughter . I haven't been for well over a year , I hope I don't sink ......lol

No one around today? I have been forced up my tree. I found some bits and bobs to fill in, but I still can't find a death for my great grandmother. I can safely offer a life's worth of chocolate to anyone who finds it as it is imposible

Hello Diane. I lay on the sofa to watch the lunchtime news, but I went to sleep :-)

I was supposed to be watching the winter Olympics during the afternoon, but I slept through most of that as well.

I just heard a great thud from upstairs. OH went to investigate and said that lots of craft stuff had fallen from the top shelf in the wardrobe in the spare room. I had moved a carrier bag full of craft things onto a high shelf when Eve was here at Christmas. Somehow it had fallen out onto the carpet. No damage done by the glue etc, but the top came off the glitter tub, so the bedroom looks very pretty now :-D

LindainHerriotCountry Report 17 Feb 2014 11:33

I was thinking about going into the market square to pick up a few bits, but by the time i had a shower and got dressed, I had to go and have a rest, so I will give that a miss :-(

Good news, I have just managed to speak to Tec. He sounded so much better, probably because he is on less morphine. He said that he is beginning to remember snatches of conversation which he obviously missed while he was spaced out. He said that his nephew came down from Yorkshire to visit him, but that he didn't remember him coming for instance.

He is on the move today, he is going to the local hospital opposite the home where the Duchess is,so he will be able to see her for the first time in six weeks. She told her daughter yesterday that he had been to the home but he hadn't come to see her. That is sad, but hopefully he will be able to see her soon. I suppose one saving grace is that he has spent all of his working life at sea, so the Duchess will have been used to him being away for long stretches, hopefully she might think he is at work.

His son in law has bought him a tablet and a wifi dongle, his daughter is bringing it tomorrow, so fingers crossed he will be able to get on line. The only problem is that it relies on a mobile signal and I know that last time he was in the local hospital, he couldn't get a signal at all.

He was waiting for the transport and was very pleased to be dressed in normal clothes, although he was trying to work out what to do with the surplus trouser leg.

He really did sound so much better, which was wonderful to hear, keep your fingers crossed that he can get a signal and can be back on line with us soon.

Good morning everyone. I am up and vertical which is as good as it gets. My aim is to be able to walk upstairs without feeling as if I have climbed a mountain. On the plus side, I feel a lot better than I did a couple of days ago
