Hello Sue,
So glad that the children enjoyed the visit to the temple, and were interested - hilarious that Joel did a high five with the monk. I'm quite sure they are very familiar with Western culture, more than most people are with theirs.
Today I visited the nursing home. They were holding a "case review" which included a representative from the county Health Authority, a social worker, nurse, and home management. The Duchess was included. The meeting took one and a half hours, with endless forms to be completed by the woman from the Health Authority, and social worker. The Duchess found it a bit of a trial, but was very good with her answers to questions directly at her. I was able to spend some time with her afterwards, and showed her how to operate a tape player, so that she can listen to audio books.

Hello Huia and Tec :-)
You must have needed the sleep, Huia.
Tec - the weather is glorious at the moment but we are forecast to have some rain over the weekend. It has been great for taking the children to the park.
On Tuesday we took the children to the Buddhist temple. Drew was very blasé about it as he has been before. Aimee and Joel loved it - Joel especially. He was genuinely interested in the culture and the many statues in the beautiful gardens. We spoke to them before we went about showing respect especially in the shrine area and they were wonderful. Joel asked if he could say a prayer and was given a stick of incense. He later told me that he prayed for a million dollars so everyone could have a holiday in Bali :-D Drew high fived a monk much to her amusement :-D

So It's a fair distance Huia, especially doing a round trip. I live in a rural area, so distance has a different meaning. When I tell people that the nearest decent stores or supermarkets are over 40 miles away, they are astounded, but we get used to it.
Our temperatures are similar to yours at the moment - on a good day. Today was around 12 C

Tec, I drive to Papakura first (about 25mins) to pick up the other granny. It then takes a bit over an hour to get to Hamilton. I am not sure what the actual distance is.
Our temp here at the moment (almost 10 a.m.) is 15 deg. C.

Hello Huia, :-)
Is it far from you to Hamilton? maybe you were overtired after such a busy day, and obviously needed the sleep. What kind of temperatures are you having at the moment?

Yesterday I took the other gt granny with me to Hamilton to visit our granddaughter and her 2 young boys. I have put some photos on FB. I fell asleep very easily last night and had a nice long sleep though towards morning I had a weird and wacky dream. I didn't wake up until almost 8.30.

Good Morning Sue,
What's your weather like today? It was awful here, and rained all day, but tomorrow they forecast a better day. :-)

Hello Everyone,
Berona - I agree entirely with what you say, although that doesn't stop me feeling guilty and wasteful when using the tumble dryer on a gloriously hot windy day.
I can afford that luxury, and now that I find myself living in a new situation, if I need something to make my life easier, then I will have it. :-), and blow the expense. I don't drink (it's not allowed) due to medication. I don't smoke, gamble, or chase wicked women :-D as I can no longer run. My daughter will inherit this house, and while I am not a wealthy man, I realise that what I do have I can't take with me, so might as well indulge myself occasionally, while I'm here.
Linda, Glad to see that you arrived safely, and I hope caring for Esme will get easier with practice - are you able to get to the park with Eve? I know how you miss the swings :-D

Hello everyone :-D
I guess the tube feeding will get easier once you get used to it, Linda. Does Esme take solid food by mouth?
You are right in what you say Berona :-)

Well that was a hard day, the tube feeding is hard work and time consuming Normal bottle feeding is a doddle compared to this. Still I managed the first day, so things should be easier from now on. I only had to get changed once because she threw up all over me

Hello all. Still getting lovely summer weather here even though we are into mid Autumn.
Tec - your comment about using the dryer reminded me of how I used to feel about using mine. Only used it when necessary. HOWEVER - times change! Because I have trouble standing and also bending/stretching - I have never used my clothes line in the seven years that I have lived here. OK, so it's a little more on the electric bill, but if I can't indulge myself at my age - what am I saving it for? My children are all more comfortable than I was at their age and they will get their share when I go off so I am making myself comfortable. First improvement I had effected when I came here, was to have ducted air conditioning installed and I use it summer and winter. I don't drink, smoke or go out to entertainments - nor do I intend to do any more travelling - so I can indulge myself as far as comfort goes, and I urge you to think about this with a view to doing the same. Using your dryer in good weather is not a waste for someone in your situation. I use mine in heatwaves, rather than be uncomfortable or hurt/take risks just to save a few bob. You should not have to put up with anything if you can afford to improve it. Go for it.

Hi Sue, and everyone
It turned out to be a lovely day today ............ not the forecast rain, but sunny and quite warm :-)
Tec ................ I hope you find The Duchess in fine fettle tomorrow, and that the case review is productive.
I presume someone is going to drive you over there?
I was at the physio today and discovered that I have another problem with my knee .................. a sports injury :-D
The physio thinks I should get a T-shirt with "I have a sports injury" on the front of it :-D :-D
I have a hamstring problem
It all makes sense after he'd explained it ................. think of the old spiritual song,
Ankle bone connected to the shin bone Shin bone connected to the knee bone Knee bone connected to the thigh bone Thigh bone connected to the hip bone Hip bone connected to the back bone Back bone connected to the shoulder bone
--------- In my case, the hamstring that runs down the outside back of the thigh connects near the top of the fibular.
I have had a displaced fibular for weeks ................ and this has now affected the hamstring
He massaged and pummeled away at it today .............. and said it would help if OH could do something similar starting on Thursday. He said I would probably be bruised, so OH would know where to "massage hard" :-S :-S
At least, it isn't more osteo-arthritis :-)
take care everyone
s xx

That's one thing I can't do yet - hanging washing on the line, but I will find a way :-) I use the tumble dryer, which is a waste on a hot sunny day.
Well I must go to bed,
Enjoy your day Sue,
Sleep well Amanda - take care - happy gardening :-D
Goodnight, Tec :-)

It certainly was delicious :-) even Emily ate some and she usually turns her nose up at any meat :-S
Yes , it is amazing how one can find ways around doing tasks :-) Back in the early days , after my accident , I used to use a dolls pram to get my wet laundry down the garden , so I could hang it on the line , it saved me carrying the heavy basket and bending down to get the items . I'm glad you haven't broken your neck .....lol
I forgot to say " hello Sue " :-0 so ...... hello Sue :-D

Oh the leg of lamb done in the slow cooker sounds delicious :-)
Glad that you enjoyed Easter.
I have discovered some very strange ways of tackling various tasks. Just a matter of thinking it through. Like negotiating an obstacle course at times, but I haven't broken my neck yet :-D

Yes , thank you , I did have a good Easter . OH cooked a wonderful , leg of lamb dinner on Sunday , in the slow cooker . We had middle daughter and her two little ones join us for the meal . And yes , they where very hyper after all the chocolate ! I wish it would have the same effect on me :-( lol
I'm pleased to hear you have got a garden wheel chair , it must make things a little simpler for you . I expect you are finding lots of weird and creative ways of getting stuff done :-D I greatly admire your determination and grit !

Hello Amanda :-) I was thinking about you today :-D
Hope you also had a nice Easter. I expect the grand children were hyper after all that chocolate :-D
Yes I have started to do what I can in the garden. I have bought another wheelchair on Ebay, specially for the garden. Surprising what can be dome from a wheelchair :-)
