A few years ago lamb was fairly cheap here, and the farmers were still getting a fair price. Now a huge export market has opened up in the Middle East, and curiously to France.
Welsh lamb is much sort after in these markets, hence the hike in price at home.

We can still get frozen NZ lamb that is cheaper than fresh obviously.

I5 sounds !like you should turn both of them down Sue.

The train back was just a few minutes late, but the carriage back was full of middle aged men, ex soldiers who had been to some sort of reunion. They got through a massive amount of beer on the way back and were very noisy.

It was the cinema AGM tonight, they always have a quiz afterwards and the winning team have to set the quiz for the following year. OH was on the winning team last year, so he ended up setting it this year.

I had to get a taxi from the station, so I went to the end of the quiz.

Oh dear had John and his cocoa moved to OZ or does he have a brother?

Do you read Karin Slaughter thrillers Sue... the detective Will Trent is teaching himself to read.

So have you got a winning candidate?

Lamb is not that cheap here either Tec.. when I was working we all got a ham for Christmas from the Business and because I was "special" I got a leg of lamb as well. One year the Ham deliverer who I ordered from said he would not even charge the company for the leg of lamb he knew it was for me.. I thought darn should have ordered two..no that would be greedy.. but I would have given it to the needy.. :-)

Sue, a few years ago there was an appeal for volunteers to tutor the Adult Literacy Classes at night school.
I took part in this for two years, and was amazed at how many young adults had only the literacy skills of four to five year olds.
These were mostly otherwise intelligent people, who needed to read and write in connection with their work, or to help their children with homework.

It makes me wonder why trouble makers, or otherwise undesirable people volunteer to work with charitable organisations - what is their motive I wonder, and I have met a few. :-0

You could be right Persie - about GH I mean. We are having lovely warm days at the moment,

Hello Tec - hope you are well :-)

We had two interviews yesterday. The first one was the difficult lady who put on her best behaviour for the interview but was still rather awkward. I was surprised to find that she was almost illiterate. It's amazing how people get through life without being able to read or write.

The second person was very interesting but not in a good way. He talked a great deal about religion, love and how beautiful the world is etc. etc. he didn't answer one question properly and actually gently told me off because he said I didn't 'present a question clearly'. He called me and the other interviewer 'girls' which we both found annoying. However the real alarm bells went off when he said that the church he was with asked him to leave. This particular church have great standing in the community because of the work they do with homeless people. So I rang the church and spoke to the very nice minister who basically said that we should close the door on him as he may cause us a great deal of problems.

I dislike turkey as well Persie - we haven't had one for years either.
I am with your OH regarding the leg of lamb. I would rather have that than anything else at Christmas.
Lamb is very expensive here now - given that we live in an area surrounded by sheep, it all seems very odd.

Persephone Report 15 May 2014 23:01

I am glad I had finished my coffee before I read about the woman in the freezer.

I am not a fan of Turkey, have not cooked one in years prefer some other bird or beast at Christmas etc... Though himself generally asks if we can have a leg of lamb, as in our pioneer traditional colonial goose.

Yes they are getting cooler and then we get a warm morning.. it's the same in the evening.. but because it is a warm morning does not necessarily follow that it will be a warm evening. It really is a case of having a sweatshirt or jacket available at all times. This is all very scientific not sure whether that GHeather would understand, it is not in a book.

Hello , :-)

Crumbs in bed? - Good Heavens :-(

Good Morning Sue - How did the interview go?

Good Morning Persie.
Thank you for asking. The bulk of my shopping is done by my lovely daughter who visits once a fortnight to do a supermarket shop.
I buy odd items from the village shop as I can get there now that I have a ramp from the front door. I use what was the Duchess's mobility scooter.
Hopefully I may get my driving license renewed soon. Then life will be much easier.

There was an incident two Christmas's ago when a severely disabled lady was tipped into the freezer in a shop during the rush for turkeys.

I can't imagine ever being that desperate for a turkey.

I'm up now :-D. The mornings are decidedly cooler so I'm tempted to stay in bed longer. I wish I could but I can't seem to stay for long once I'm awake.

I am up showered, dressed, washing is in machine doing its thing and the electrician is here with OH the apprentice traipsing around assisting him.

And my youngest SIL reckons that us two live like teenagers.

I hope Linda got to have a shower... not the done thing to drive people around whilst wearing your pink dressing gown and slippers. Might be okay for the mailman to see her like that but not the rest of the world.

I am sure you will put all interviewees through their paces Sue.. what a strange word interviewees is, not in sounding but in looks.

Note to self, make sure not on the road when Huia is out driving.

Hello Tec .. will be so much better doing wheelies out into the garden, rather than hopping... how do you get on with your shopping? I have often helped people in wheelchairs with an item from the top row... I have visions of wheelchair users only being able to eat that which is on the lower shelves.. and as for trying to get in the freezers.

One of my relatives cracked a rib when stretching into the freezer to get the frozen chips. Her daughter said what is it with you oldies and frozen chips?? I have had to inform them that some of us "oldies" do not buy frozen French fries etc.

Goodness me Linda, I had hoped that you could get some well earned rest at home,
do try to get what rest you can while you can.

I am also off to bed now,

Hope the interview goes well Sue,

Sleep well Linda - good journey tomorrow,

Goodnight,
Tec :-)

I am very tired.

I have to do some community driving on Friday as well, taking a lady for a hospital visit. I am trying not to do things lime that at the moment, but they were desperate.

I had better get to bed. Eve was up before my alarm went off this morning, so I didn't even get my shower

Goodnight everyone
