Re Tote-em ................. the only thought I have is that Cirque du Soleil is based in Montreal, and whether that is the French pronunciation.

It is what the group calls it, so not an announcer or advertising person mistake.

The two that really annoy me with announcers are

nucular or nucelar

southern pronounced as south-ern, not suthern

Sue .........

how about my new avatar?

What the well-dressed man wore to paddle in the ocean :-)

I'm guessing that it was taken in 1927, or possibly 1928, as Frank died of Leukemia in May or June 1928.

EDIT:--- taken in 1927 or possibly 1926 ............. Frank would have been too ill in 1928 to go on a holiday

Yes I get annoyed by that sort of thing. Newsreaders or presenters who mispronounce the names of towns that they should be more than familiar with.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 24 May 2014 23:48

ah yes, the old swimsuits!

many of them were made of wool ................................. and had to be carefully guarded against moths :-)

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 24 May 2014 23:47

Sandals and socks is my favourite :-D

We were watching a program on the telly last night called Murdoch Mysteries. The two main characters were in the swimsuits of the time period. How difficult it must have been to swim in all that fabric.

...... forgot to say, the emphasis in TOTE-EM is on the EM

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 24 May 2014 23:45

isn't it funny what can annoy us???

Cirque du Soleil's "new" production TOTEM is in town until July 9 ......... we're the last stop before they start on their world-wide tour, opening in Auckland, NZ, in August.

We are of course being inundated with ads on radio and TV ............

TOTEM is "a fascinating journey into the evolution of mankind, according to their website .......... and incorporates a lot of First Nations myths

The ads all say TOTE-EM

Totems are a major part of First Nations life here on the West Coast ......... and we say TOT'M or TOTUM

I cringe every time I hear Tote'em :_)

I love the ones from the seaside where the men are paddling in the water ............. trousers rolled upto to the knees and carrying their shoes :-)

Goodnight Tec and Linda - sleep well <3 <3

Sylvia - I have a photo of my paternal grandmother sitting on a beach wearing a very nice dress, court shoes, handbag and hat. I can imagine that my grandfather took the photo. Every photo of my grandfather shows him in a three piece suit except one which shows him in trousers, shirt without the collar and braces. He was obviously working in the garden :-D

SylviaInCanada

night night, Linda and Tec

sleep well both of you xxxx

SylviaInCanada

Enjoy your day Sue, and the sunshine - you too Sylvia,

Sleep well Linda,
Goodnight,
Tec :-)

that double posting is strange!

yes ........... it does.

I had always assumed that grandparents et al went away in June

In fact, they always used to go back to the same boarding house, and meet up with the same group of people every summer.

I have a couple of pictures of the entire "group", taken on the sand in South Bay, all people fully dressed, some of the men in 3-piece suits!

Time for bed, only two more sleeps until we go on holiday, I forgot to answer that Tec. Don't worry though, I will have my kindle :-D

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 24 May 2014 23:23

I don't care what people think Sue. This is my version of sanity, and until I'm taken away in a straight jacket I am happy in my little world.

I often watch my neighbours, and then I am sure of my own sanity :-D

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 24 May 2014 23:20

Ah Sylvia - second sign of madness is looking for them ;-)

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 24 May 2014 23:17

Why did my last post appear twice, further up the page? how strange.

Sylvia that solves a mystery for you then regarding the weather.

A family mystery solved Sylvia

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 24 May 2014 23:16

SueMaid

Any sensible person reading the posts about traumatised fish and making them beds would think the same :-D

Lovely and sunny outside. I can't believe it's almost winter here.
