It's not an original idea. I saw it on a YouTube video about planting succulents in pots. Succulents don't like wet feet. I thought it was a good idea. They're cheap enough to buy as I get them in a dollar shop. |

I use broken pots and if I don't have any I use small stones. If the pot has decent drainage holes then I use a coffee filter over the holes to stop the soil dropping out. The filter obviously still allows drainage. |

Broken pots make very good crocks in the bottom of pots to improve drainage, but I expect you know that :-D |

I did break one but the lovely young couple gave me another. They asked if we would like to see the house when it's finished. That would be lovely as they are working so hard. |
