My daughter has come home, so I will say goodnight as I have an early start. See you tomorrow Sue

I can't keep my eyes open so I will say goodnight <3 <3

Enjoy your day, Lady Persephone <3

Tecwyn Report 2 Jul 2014 22:59

Persie I find kippers a little salty, obviously Linda doesn't. Maybe I have misinterpreted the taste.
Boil in the bag kippers are not a patch on the real thing. Yes the smell of cooking does linger around the house for hours.

My brother could wear a long coat and walk out of the hospital with three legs :-D

Persephone

Persephone Report 2 Jul 2014 22:57

Could have it as carry on luggage when you are flying Tec..

Next time things are expensive and cost an arm and a leg..you can hand them your leg.

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 2 Jul 2014 22:54

Hi Persie :-)

I would hope they have a carrier bag for your leg, Tec :-D

I don't like the taste or smell of kippers but I love all other fish and seafood. Especially salmon :-)

Persephone

Persephone Report 2 Jul 2014 22:53

Boil in the bag kippers!!! That sort of doesn't sound right somehow.. I thought you cooked them in the pan..

I like smoked fish.. especially salmon or trout. They smoke Kawhai here as well... the flesh of that fish is quite dark.

Not sure who to believe

Tec: "Kippers are a bit salty..."

Linda: "kippers aren't salty Persie...."

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 2 Jul 2014 22:48

Kippers aren't salty Persie, the fish is hung above smouldering wood chips of different types and smoked overnight. I like the Whitby ones, but all kippers do have a habit of repeating throughout the day,so I don't eat them very often.

My sister loves kippers and often has them for breakfast, but she cheats and has the boil in a bag type. Normal ones make the house smell when you cook them

Tecwyn Report 2 Jul 2014 22:47

Persie, I would like to see my brother striding back to his car with my leg under his arm :-D

Kippers are a bit salty. I think it's an acquired taste really. A bit like Marmite, you either love it or hate it

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 2 Jul 2014 22:43

Linda I also find my brother collecting my leg very funny. :-D

It must be the weirdest mission he has been sent on yet. :-D

He says he is going to go up to reception holding his leg up behind him and ask if they've got any legs going spare :-D as in a Dudley Moore sketch.

and he is daft enough to do that.

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 2 Jul 2014 22:43

The Whitby ones are smoked in a tiny old smoke house on Henrietta Street. The end of the street has fallen into the sea and the smoke house is in danger because the abbey cliff above it is collapsing

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 2 Jul 2014 22:42

I had a giggle too, Linda :-D

I can imagine your brother arriving at the wooden leg factory and asking for Mr Tec's leg please :-D

No fresh crab, Linda :-(

Persephone

Persephone Report 2 Jul 2014 22:42

I have never had kippers. Aren't they very salty.

Are Manx kippers a shortened version of Whitby ones (tailless perhaps) ?

Persephone

Persephone Report 2 Jul 2014 22:40

Tec<
I can just hear your brother answering someone when they ask him

where are you off to?

Oh just got to pick up my brother's leg for him.

huh?

Too far for him to hop to it and collect it himself.

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 2 Jul 2014 22:38

I've had Manx kippers, but not Whitby ones.

I quite like them, but couldn't eat them for breakfast as many do apparently

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 2 Jul 2014 22:38

We'll if you didn't bring kippers did you bring fresh crab, I like that

I laughed when I read about you brother collecting your leg Tec, it sounds funny,to me anyway

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 2 Jul 2014 22:31

Kippers :-0 No thank you.

Nice to have the little ones off to bed. You can relax now.

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 2 Jul 2014 22:13

Yes Sue, I am glad to be free of all the travelling twice a week. The local hospital is only 20 minutes along the coast. I know the physiotherapist there very well. She has visited my house with the OT when I was discharged in March to identify any hazards.
I do realise I have come a long way since those dark days around Christmas, but I've had a lot of help and encouragement along the way.

There definitely seems to be something almost spiritual about Whitby.

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 2 Jul 2014 22:08

Did you buy some kippers from Fortunes in Whitby Sue? If not,why not?

It is very hot down here, it might be 27 tomorrow, far too hot.

All is. Quiet on the baby front. Little miss " I am not tired and dont want to go to bed" zonked out the second her head hit the pillow. Esme is in bed as well and behaving so far. Her mum is out at a works leaving do but her father is here,so I am off duty

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 2 Jul 2014 22:06

Hello Tec - it will be good to be able to stay local while you continue to need physiotherapy. You are obviously doing very well. What a long way you have come since Christmas.

Whitby is a favourite of ours - I can't explain why but we always like to go there.

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 2 Jul 2014 21:57

Hello Everyone, :-)

Berona- I really shouldn't refer to it as the "Wooden Leg Factory" just my joke. It is actually a highly skilled unit of very dedicated people whose sole objective is to get you on your feet again, as it were.
Each leg is individually manufactured by a team of engineers specifically to a patients needs.
They have worked so hard with me, and I have nothing but the greatest admiration for their dedication.
Today I was discharged from them, as they have taught me all they can. Now I will be referred to a local hospital for a few weeks until I am deemed safe to be let loose on the world.
I was to have brought my leg home with me today, to practice at home, but they are making a foam cover the shape of my other leg to make it look more natural, and stop my trouser leg from flapping about in the wind :-D.
Unfortunately the technician is off sick, so it won't be ready until Monday. In order to save me another trip to Wrexham my brother who lives locally is picking it up on Monday, and bringing it here on Wednesday of next week.

Sue - I have had a thing about Whitby for years - can't explain why. It just seems so interesting, and I have read something of its history. Glad you enjoyed your day.

Linda - What a good thing that your watch is apparently waterproof. Couldn't have a better test than that - hope it continues to work well for you.
