Himself has got a cold and has spent two days in bed. He had to remove himself this morning and shower whilst I changed the sheets.

He had not been right since he got back with the truck but now it is lots of coughing.. he has to take truck to a place to see about the water pump etc tomorrow.

I don't normally put the placemat or non ovenware items in the oven, that would be more like a trick of his.

Reminds me of years ago the kindergarten committee were all at one of the member's place for a bit of a do.. well she did a bit of a don't and put a poker worked wooden dish in the oven to heat up something.. it was what a guest had brought along.. and we kept saying to owner of plate. go and tell her (the hostess). He said his mother had given it to them, it got put on the table all rather warped and the hostess never noticed.. she wasn't even a blonde.

I had to look thylacine up Persie, I had never heard of it.

Your cooking sounds like Sue's. One day I left dinner for her to cook. I had to leave detailed instructions along the lines of,

Turn oven on, put meat on oven tray, put in oven etc. she really is hopeless you know :-D

It is Sunday morning here but OH hasn't woken up yet to do my bacon sarnies, s o I am just quietly tapping away on my iPad. The rain was dreadful during the night, but it seems calm now. I think the worst is still to come

We will be putting our house on the market the weekend after the elections.. well that's the plan.. of course I could burn the place down first.

I took the dinner out of the oven and I do not like putting a very hot chinaware dish on the stainless steel bench. Usually I grab a place mat but there is an oval basket tray (I use it to hold my plate in if I eat in the lounge).. the meal was not quite cooked so put it back in oven. Went outside saw to the bins, came back and sat down and then there was this strange smell, not my laptop, not the heater that was on, not the dishwasher that was on.. opened the oven door and I had cooked the basket tray.. luckily it will be okay but a slight bit of smoke came out of the oven.. Maybe I smoked the fish that was in the dinner.

Beetroot, I don't think I would fancy it in raspberry jelly, wouldn't that make it rather sweet. I like it sliced or baby ones whole with crème fraiche or quark or sour cream.. and I would like Linda's pickle as like onion marmalade, relishes, chutneys and pickles as long as not hot like chilli sauce.

No we are not getting a tank Tec.. I agreed to the horse truck, but I could see the practicality of that.. when he said to me I think I will get a truck he was very surprised when I said what a good idea.

I looked for the thylacine in Tassie Sue.. the cupboard was bare.

Phil looks little more than a boy in your avatar, Huia. I'm pleased that you are happy to share your thoughts with us on here.

It is cold and breezy here. I have been pottering in the garden but as I have the house to myself for the day I now intend to curl up and read :-D

Thank you Berona. I wont be able to take things too easy until after the election, as I am a candidate, but I am one tough cookie - I think. :-)

You will see I have changed my avatar. He looks so much younger than18.

Huia - My thoughts go with you. I know you have been 'eased' into this and have learned to live at home without Phil - also get off to go places and do things which you would not be doing until after he goes, if he had not been away from you for five years. However, there will still be emotional upheaval when things come up that you didn't think of before and there is also the fact that the 'finality' has come.

It will be nice to have your family with you, but after they go, I hope you take things easy for a while and take time to think of anything you might want to change now that it has finally happened. Take your time - and take it easy.

Hello everyone :-). My goodness - you have been very chatty.

Huia - I am sure that you are feeling relief that Phil is now at rest. I understand what you mean about shedding tears years ago. I'm sure he left knowing that you all loved him <3

Has Linda gone to bed already :-(

Huia, It is good that you were able to spend Phil's last hours at his bedside.
Maybe he could understand what you said to him. It would be nice to think that he did.
It is so awful to see your loved ones suffer in that cruel way. You grieved for Phil four or five years ago when he entered the home, as I grieve for the Duchess now.
Maybe the finality of it all will hit you in a few weeks - you must be prepared for that.

The behaviour of the doctor was less than sympathetic, and very unprofessional.

Huia Report 9 Aug 2014 22:43

Thank you Tec. He went very quietly. He was on oxygen for bronchopneumonia. It was a great relief for me as he had had quite a few of these chest infections. I am glad I went through to spend the evening and night with him. I told him I loved him, and our children loved him, and said he had had a long fight and if he wanted to let go that was alright. I don't know if he could hear or understand, but I felt I had to say it. I spent the rest of the night in his room, and when the doc came in the morning to confirm the death he hurried over to Phil, spent a very short time there, then dashed out, not a word to me! I was rather surprised about that. :-0

Hello Huia,

I am sorry to know that your husband Phil has passed away.
I understand how you feel about it, very sad though it is, he had suffered enough, and now he is at peace.

Thoughts with you both, <3
