Hello everyone :-)

Congratulation Sylvia on your anniversary - hope you have a wonderful day <3

Glad to hear that your OH is home and feeling much better, Persie. Who would have thought that out of date medication would lose it's punch like that.

I'm glad Archie behaved for you, Tec. I hope you had a chat with him before going to the hospital :-D

After a thoroughly miserable, cold wet day yesterday I have woken up to sunshine :-D
We badly needed the rain but it was so chilly. Apart from a quick trip to the shops I stayed in all day and read :-D

Tecwyn Report 12 Aug 2014 22:27

Hello,

Been bright and breezy here today, but dry.

I had an appointment at the local cottage hospital for more walking training with Archie. We both did very well. Archie was well behaved, and stood by me throughout :-D.

Persie - Good that your OH is back home. Sometimes a heart problem can be kept stable with appropriate medication.
I have been on the same tablets for a heart condition for over 20 years, and often wonder if they are still effective.

Sylvia - Congratulations on your 47th Anniversary - hope you are having a happy day :-)

I expect Linda is up to her kneck in muck and bullets, scraping layers of wallpaper.
There is something satisfying in that job, though I can't explain it.

Persie

good to hear he is home.

We never think of medications changing their efficacy as we get used to them :-(

The drizzle has arrived ............................ and it is a shade cooler, not much but just a tad!

It is our 47th wedding anniversary today .................. I just cannot think where all those years have gone!

Persephone Report 12 Aug 2014 01:49

He is in the shower at home.. we went for coffee and he is quite pleased with the outcome. He has been taking verapamil for quite a long time now for BP and it is past its used by date... which means that it is no longer effective in that it has slowed his heart right down.. he actually got an 0 reading during the night, but that was his mobile interference..

We have left a note with his doctor re a follow up in a week or so after no BP tablet and see where he is at. He will probably still go and see the cardiologist (private costly visit) ... am hoping that they can refer him back to hospital if anything needs to be done.. it is all done on how you fit in the loop.

Huia you do have a kiwi turn of phrase there. "gone up in smoke." glad you made a good day of it. We did that when we interred some ashes the other week, we all went out for lunch and then the waiter knocked one of those solid glass bottles of water off his tray when he was standing behind me and it boinged on my head.. my cousin Neil sitting next to me heard the resounding boing (probably hollow inside my head) .. but we did have a "good day out"

Hello all.

Best wishes for your OH Persie.

Phil went up in smoke yesterday. Son, his wife, and I went in the hearse with him to the crematorium. The hearse was driven by a woman who lives down at the bottom of our road. She is manager at the funeral directors. Afterwards son and wife took me to lunch, then they went shopping and back to Rotorua while I went to work. One of my workmates had invited me to dinner in her new home afterwards, and we had a nice long chat, so it was a full and lovely day.

I am off to collect him, he says he has some good news of sorts in his text..

and as my SIL says "catch you later" ... he probably could too with the amount of dead weights he has to move etc.

Tecwyn Report 11 Aug 2014 22:59

I know I haven't been here long, but promised myself an early night as I am rather tired.

Have fun at the house Linda - fond memories of doing all that. Just keep telling your son how lovely it will be when it's finished :-D Take care.

Hope things go well with Mr Persie today.

Sue send your OH out to do a rain dance :-D

Goodnight everyone,
Tec :-)

Hello Sue, the weather was lovely when you were here, it has been very autumnal this week

Hello Persie and Linda. I hope Mr Persie is feeling much better <3

The young people have a lot of work ahead of them but with help and advice from you and OH they will soon have a lovely home.

We were lucky to have such nice warm weather on our trip. Not too much rain and lots of blue skies. Last time we visited all our photos had us wearing jackets :-(

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 11 Aug 2014 22:53

Probably fell off because the wall is damp. That happened here in places.
It all sounds very exciting :-)

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 11 Aug 2014 22:51

My son took the plaster off the outside wall in the lounge at the weekend, apparently it just fell off with no problem.

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 11 Aug 2014 22:48

Persie - That meths idea sounds good. We have go rid of all the wallpaper downstairs here. Where we papered the bedrooms there is just the one layer that we put up ourselves.
When we came here there was layer upon layer of paper on all the walls. Some came off easily, but some bottom layers were very stubborn.

How are you feeling this morning?

Linda stripping the plaster off the walls is an awful job. I don't envy you on that. I took it off up to a metre high - hired a skip to dump it in.
I hope all goes well. Sounds like there's a lot to do, but not all at once.

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 11 Aug 2014 22:44

That is good advice Persie. I think there is so much wallpaper on that the plaster will come off as well. They are going to have the wall knocked down between the lounge and dining room to make one large room. The plaster has to come off the external walls so that internal insulation can be applied to the bricks, so really the whole house needs to be replastered

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 11 Aug 2014 22:39

Hello Sue,

Hope that you get some rain soon. We had enough yesterday to soak the whole of NSW :-D
It has been mainly dry today, but a very strong wind, the tail end of the storm I expect.
August can be very wet here, but then we usually have a nice September.
You certainly had some good weather while you were over here :-)

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 11 Aug 2014 22:38

I hope Mr Persie is feeling better tonight.

My brother had a steamer Tec, so we have borrowed that. The car is loaded up with tools, ladders, brushes, you name it.

I will take my iPad but the internet is not due to be connected until Wednesday. I don't think we will have much spare time though. The aim is to get all the wallpaper off if possible, plus the plaster from a couple of internal walls so that internal insulation can be put on.

We also have to tackle the front garden, apparently everything is about five foot tall There is a privet hedge, but we are going to cut that down. We need to get to the house wall to see why it is damp on the inside.

Persephone

Persephone Report 11 Aug 2014 22:36

We had two wallpaper steamers, one decided to not be that happy so we invested in a very upmarket one. Our plasterer came around to one of the properties where we were steaming away and he gave us some excellent advice.

He asked if we had a weed sprayer bottle.. yes have a 5 litre one... put some methylated spirits in it sort of a cup full or so and add boiling water.. Spray that on the walls and it works like a dream.. soggy but the gib (plasterboard) ends up not getting torn..

Linda the property mag is a property investor one, has lots of reading in it not a supplement with the newspaper.. he also had two listener mags which is our magazine about all sorts plus the TV programs for the week.
