Happy birthday Sue's OH <3 <3

I hope you feel better tomorrow Sylvia.

I slept really late today, I only woke up because OH came in for something. I could easily have turned over and gone back to sleep again, but I thought that I had better get up.

It is overcast and looks drizzly outside. we need to go to the market and to the supermarket and clean the car of course

Hi Sue, and everyone

Happy Birthday to your OH, Sue .............. and welcome to the OAP ranks :-)

Linda ............. you have certainly been working hard! It will look good when they have finished

That's like what we did at the cabin ............ which was really a 3 bedroom house!

Tec .............. good idea to get some one to come in and whack the garden into more shape for you.

But ............... good on you taking the machine up to the local shop :-)

Did the locals jump out of the way when they saw you??

I have a friend who took her machine out to the local shop for the first time .............. but lost control of it when she tried to stop outside the shop. She and the machine managed to partly demolish the flower display (on wooden benches) outside the shop) :-D

Fortunately, she was well known ............. and everyone just shrugged their shoulders :-)

It's still cooler than it was here ............. but we are told that more hot weather will arrive by Monday or Tuesday next week.

We did get quite a bit of rain yesterday (Thursday) and overnight .................. the grass looks a lot greener than it did on Wednesday :-)

It is amazing how fast dry grass recovers.

I spent a lot of today in bed :-(

I just didn't "feel right" ................... tummy off, head achey, etc .............. so I decided I might be better lying down.

I did feel a lot better after 3 hours sleep ........ but only had some tomato soup for my dinner

take care everyone

xx

Good Morning Sue,

We have been warned that next week will be decidedly Autumnal with much lower temperatures.
My brother goes to his house on the Isle of Man tomorrow - looks like he will have a cold wet time. Annoying after all the lovely weather.

Hello Tec and goodnight Linda <3

So much hard work - I hope you are taking care of yourselves Linda.

We are in for a week of rain - some torrential. So be careful what you wish for. At least the farmers will be grateful. I will need to cover some of my pots :-(

Goodnight Linda - sleep well.

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 15 Aug 2014 22:31

My goodness - they will certainly need a skip then.

We considered taking the wall between the lounge and dining room down, but decided against it as we preferred a separate dining room, and it's easier to keep a smaller room warm in winter.

Though this has been done in my neighbour's house, and it does look good I must say

I am shattered so I am going to have an early night, goodnight

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 15 Aug 2014 22:26

They were going to hire a skip, but we saved them the cost. They will have a skip when the builders demolish two internal walls of course

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 15 Aug 2014 22:24

Hope you don't get lumbered with cleaning the car :-D

Perhaps later it might be a good idea for your son to hire a skip - though they are expensive.

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 15 Aug 2014 22:22

The car is in a horrendous state as we ferried so much stuff to the tip over and over again. It is going to take ages to clean it tomorrow

LindainHerriotCountry Report 15 Aug 2014 22:20

More like in old plaster and wallpaper :-(

Tecwyn Report 15 Aug 2014 22:14

Someone "clearing up" is a huge asset to that kind of project, saving time for those making more mess.

You are worth your weight in gold Linda :-D

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 15 Aug 2014 22:11

Funny, I get to do lots of clearing up as well :-(

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 15 Aug 2014 21:58

You don't necessarily have to be good at DIY to get "stuck in". It is very useful to have someone clearing up the mess in those circumstances.

We had no help from anyone when we were in a mess. Probably due to location, and other factors.
The Duchess worked so hard, mostly clearing up after me when I had made an horrendous mess.
She also papered four large rooms upstairs entirely alone, plus sanding down and doing all the glossing of the paintwork.
It's so encouraging when you begin to see light at the end of the tunnel, and can get at least one room straight and habitable.

It is a shame the your son's girlfriends parents aren't made of the same stuff that you are - but then you might all get in each others way :-D

Hello Tec,

Yes my son is doing very well on the DI Y front, he has learnt well from OH. His girlfriends parents are totally useless in that department,so she hasn't much idea. I think she wondered why I was going and was really amazed when we just waded in and did so much. Her father turned up one day to see the house, he took us out for lunch, which was kind of him, but it was the last thing we wanted to do because we were all filthy and busy.she isn't even going to invite her mother until the house is in good condition

Hello Berona, :-)

We have had plenty of rain here. Five inches in the last two weeks according to the weatherman.
Today has been very nice, sunny, and windy. I dried a line full of washing on the line.
I also roared off up to the village shop on my batmobile :-D posted some letters, and roared back home, sparks coming off the back wheels :-D

Tomorrow I may take "Archie" for a walk. Only around the garden. Well, it's hardly a garden now, more a jungle, but I have plans to employ someone to make radical changes, while I can still see the sky :-D

Tecwyn Report 15 Aug 2014 21:21

Hello Linda, :-)

Sorry you had such a bad journey home. My SIL phoned just now. It took him twice as long to get home this evening due to all the traffic pouring into the Weston Park music festival near Wellington Shrops.

Oh happy days :-D
Your son's house sounds exactly like this one did shortly after we came here. Except that we had somehow to live here as well while it was all happening.
Living on a building site. :-D

But you can't make an omelette without breaking eggs.
It is a lot to take on, but they are young, and their enthusiasm will carry them through.
I hope that your son has inherited his father's DIY skills :-D
