Oh dear Linda - I thought you may all come down with the dreaded bug :-(. Hope the day isn't too trying <3 <3

Huia - sounds like a sad day but heartening to know that Phil was so well thought of <3

Quite a sad day all round for Tec and Huia <3

I have lots of handbags as well :-D

I have a cold, pounding head ache and ache all over, Eve is coughing and sneezing as well, so it looks like we all have it. Esme is finishing her milk upstairs. With her father, but I can hear her crying,so it is going 5 or be another trying day :-(

Huia

Huia Report 20 Aug 2014 05:40

I had the memorial talk-fest for Phil today. There were about 60 people there. Several of his old workmates spoke of what a well-read man he was, and a gentleman, with a sense of humour, and they all repected him, even though their positions were 'higher' than his. He had been a chainman for the surveyors and engineers, but in some cases he put the new surveyors on the right track. I was delighted that they all found him so intelligent, despite his lack of good schooling during the war. He did read a lot, and think a lot, used his brain a lot until it started playing up in the last 6 or 7 years. He did finish up his working life as a 'technician' as there were no longer and chaining jobs needed, but he was always a hard and honest worker.

I once saw a string of photos taken of the Queen over many, many years and they showed her standing, with her handbag hanging from her wrist or otherwise, she was holding it by the chain/handle. As I said, there were a lot of photos, each with the year printed on them and there were only three handbags - all black, small and square. These same three bags had been used over and over spanning all those years. In fact, there might have been less than three if the clasp had been changed!

Goodnight Tec - sleep tight <3

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 19 Aug 2014 23:40

You should have livened the meeting up - by dancing on the table. That'd make them look up :-D

Oh well, the old fashioned hand bags had to be replaced then didn't they?

I'm off to bed now,

Enjoy your day Sue - hope the sun comes out,

Goodnight,
Tec.

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 19 Aug 2014 23:36

The meeting was long and boring - as expected. No heated discussions, no letters from disgruntled members just the same old stuff :-(

I have thrown out handbags that are decidedly old fashioned :-D. I also bought a handbag the last time we were in Florence.

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 19 Aug 2014 23:32

Do hand bags ever get thrown out? :-D

Very swish to have Italian handbags :-D having two is almost decadent

Meant to ask how did the meeting go?

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 19 Aug 2014 23:30

Ladies do have lots of handbags :-D

I bought two in Florence - well one does :-D OH asked me if that meant two would be thrown out at home. He was given the "Look" :-|

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 19 Aug 2014 23:22

Well I just have to make those decisions now - I don't know what she would say if she knew.

I didn't know that she had so many hand bags in the bottom of the wardrobe :-D

The smallest thing can bring back memories of happy times. Even more difficult because you are separated from the Duchess and making decisions about what should be kept and given away.

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 19 Aug 2014 23:04

Good Morning Sue,

Rained here this morning, still windy, but turned out nice this afternoon.
When I had enough sorting the Duchess's clothes I needed some fresh air, so went and hacked at a shrub, taking off as much as I could reach.

I t was a sad thing to have to do, and even clothes bring back memories.
Somehow, it seems harder having to keep some things back.
The Duchess has some very smart and expensive clothes, and I felt awful parting with them, but they are no use to her now.

SueMaid Report 19 Aug 2014 22:56

Hello everyone :-D

Oh Tec - what a sad thing to be doing. I can imagine you were feeling quite down for awhile.

A bit brighter this morning although drizzle is expected on and off today.

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 19 Aug 2014 21:33

Linda I hope everyone is getting better now, and that you don't get the bug.

Sylvia it is a shame that you were not aware of your niece's wedding sooner, and could make plans to come over.
When were you last in the UK?

I have been busy today. I am preparing the bedroom for decorating before I move back into it.
The double bed has to be taken away, and wardrobes emptied so that they can be moved.
Today I made a start on sorting out the Duchess's clothes. She has three wardrobes full of clothes.
Sorting in types - some just want to go in the rag bag, being the things she used for indoors when working, and other things just "past it"
Some things that she is never likely to wear again where she is, because they are "too smart" and unsuitable for daily use in the home.
Those things can go to the charity shop. Some things still had their tickets on, and never worn.
I have kept the things that will be useful in the home throughout the seasons, and for the occasional trip out maybe.
It wasn't a nice job. Some things reminded me of happier times, and events but it had to be done.
A few things were her absolute favourites, flogged to death, and I somehow couldn't let them go, so back in the wardrobe, to be dealt with some other time.

Hi Sue, and everyone

Linda ........... sorry to hear they're all sick, except for Eve.

Do hope that you escape it.

Thank you for your good wishes for OH ......................... we really enjoyed our meal. We also saw a lady in the restaurant who we had not seen for about 2 years, and had quite a little chat with her.

.............. it was a bit hard to remember that last year we were up north with his sister who was seemingly in good health and recovering after her chemo :-(

My internet was off for several hours this morning ............. when I did get in, I found an email from my brother's youngest daughter telling us that she was getting married tomorrow in Sheffield :-0

She's always been against marriage ........... too many bad examples in the family .................. so now is marrying for the first time ............... she'll be 55 at the end of the month!

Wish she would have let us know sooner ..............we'd have tried to get over for it.

They've apparently bought a cottage in Devon ............... which needs a lot of work ........... she says "new kitchen, bathroom, en-suite and large extension"

Plus, the solicitor skipped off to London 3 days before completion, so they had to find a new one to pick up the pieces!

take care everyone

Not quite as wet today but still cold. It's supposed to be drizzly on and off all week.

I hope no one else comes down with that nasty Spanish bug :-(

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 19 Aug 2014 11:22

Good morning Sue, her father has it as well, so it must be a Spanish bug. Eve seems fine at the moment.

Is it still cold and rainy where you are? It is only about 19 here, but not raining
