Tec - I've told you before that you are a 'softie'. Send him an email and lay it on THICK. Tell him everything that is an inconvenience to you - and ask hm to please treat this matter as URGENT.
I agree that it would probably follow the process you mentioned - but there would be no harm done - especially if you send another a week later - and keep sending them until something is done. You know - the squeaky wheel gets the first oil!
Make a nuisance of yourself and something might get done to get you off their backs.

Tecwyn Report 26 Aug 2014 19:36

Berona - I hope your eye test went well, and that your new glasses will prevent any more falls. Glad to hear no damage done, but a sudden fall is still a shock to the system. I have to be extra careful now not to fall.
I have not written to my MP regarding the delay in processing my driving licence. We do have a good MP in this area, who is known to take up "causes" and grievances of his constituents. However, I feel that by the time my letter is read by his secretary in Westminster, and eventually passed on to the MP, who probably has more important issues to deal with, then he eventually contacts the licencing authority, who will be slow to respond, then I might as well wait until my file comes to the top of the pile, is dusted off, and they send me my driving licence.
I just hope that I live long enough :-D

Linda, I also hope that your new glasses are alright this time. I remember the problems you had last time.
I'm sorry that your daughter is still very unwell, and that you are having to cope with everything there. By the time you read this your OH will be with you to share the load, and help.
Take time to look after yourself as well.

LindainHerriotCountry Report 26 Aug 2014 16:18

I ordered some new glasses at the weekend Berona. I had an appointment earlier in the summer but had to cancel it because I had to stay down here for some sort of emergency. I have only just got. Round to going again. I knew I needed new ones because I was having trouble with tiny print.

I have ordered a pair of prescription sun glasses as well. My lenses are varifocals and I have a strong prescription,so it all costs a fortune.

I hope the lenses will be OK when they come back. The last two times,it has taken them three goes to produce ones which were thin enough on the edge so they weren't sticking out beyond the frames. I am long sighted, but am becoming more short sighted as I get older, apparently. That makes the lenses thicker.

My daughter is still very ill she has now had the antibiotic prescription made up. They told her to do that if she was no better after two days. If it was a virus, she should have been feeling better after a couple of. Days which she isn't.

OH is driving down this afternoon. He couldn't come yesterday because of a commitment. That means I will have some back up which is good. I have given the house a good clean since I arrived, with a combination of being ill and away, my daughter hadn't done anything for weeks. I could have done without that as I don't feel well myself, but someone needed to do it and I didn't want that to have to be my daughter.

Good morning, afternoon and evening all. Sue, we are not having rain like you describe but it is in the air and the pavers are 'damp', so maybe it is coming from the south and we might get it later.

Tec - Have you tried writing to your local Member of Parliament? Or what equivalent you have of that? Also, the department handling pensions, etc. I will be thinking of you this morning when I have my eye test. I had a fall about ten days ago and landed flat on my face. Lucky no skin or bones broken, but the frame of my glasses is damaged. I have been thinking that it is 'time' for new ones for a while now so that has pushed me into action. I am going for my test this morning.

I do have a good book :-D. Goodnight Tec <3

Tecwyn Report 25 Aug 2014 23:58

There was major flooding on a new housing development last year. That was due to blocked culverts.
Also the estate was built on a flood plain :-( they stood no chance.

Well I'd better go to bed,

Enjoy your day Sue in spite of the rain - got a good book? :-D

Goodnight,
Tec :-)

SueMaid Report 25 Aug 2014 23:53

We have a major road leading up into the mountains that is closed in heavy rain - that causes some problems. Also two local roads are often flooded during very heavy rain. Our local council know of this problem but won't clear the culverts on a regular basis.

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 25 Aug 2014 23:50

Do you have many roads prone to flooding?

My brother phoned from his house on the Isle of Man today, it was pouring with rain there too, and the rest of week looks the same.
They were going to stay longer if the weather was nice, but looks like they'll be back on Saturday now.

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 25 Aug 2014 23:45

Sounds like fun and a great way to get the community together- what a shame it rained :-(

The rain here is getting heavier by the minute. That will mean road closures :-(

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 25 Aug 2014 23:42

It is very frustrating, particularly for me, as I can't go anywhere without the car. Unfortunately I don't have family nearby to run me about.
I need an eye test, but can't get there :-(

Today there was a "duck race" in the village. They were raising funds for a village project.
They sell plastic ducks that are then tipped into the river up-stream, and the first one "home" gets a prize - and the last one too.
None of mine came home.
I didn't go as it was pouring with rain. I expect the river was fast running with all the rain

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 25 Aug 2014 23:36

The annoying thing is that there is nothing you can really do to hurry them along. Very frustrating but I guess that dealing with a backlog of work because of cost cutting must be very difficult for the various departments too.

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 25 Aug 2014 23:32

Government Depts are all the same.

When I applied for renewal of my licence in March they sent forms seven pages long. Many questions had no relevance to my application as far as I could see.

Then six weeks later they sent another lot, saying they knew I had previously filled them in, but I needed to do it again. No reason given.

The final straw was the letter I had recently to say that due to pressure of work my application would not be reviewed for AT LEAST three months :-|

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 25 Aug 2014 23:22

Government departments aren't too bad here although we have had a few issues with OH going on to a pension. As if he hasn't earned it over many years of work. They want to know what he's had for breakfast I'm sure :-(

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 25 Aug 2014 23:16

Currently I am the only one insured to drive the car, but I can insure another named driver at a little extra cost.
I think I will have to do that - it's a disgrace how long they are taking to process my licence, but most Government depts. are in dire straights due to cuts in staffing levels.
The passport office is a prime example. Many people had to cancel holidays or trips abroad this year.

Nothing will change while Mork and Mindy are running the asylum :-(

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 25 Aug 2014 23:10

Hello Tec - OH was saying awhile back that he wondered if your car battery would be flat. Does your insurance cover someone else driving it - perhaps your neighbour could take it out now and then when she goes shopping.

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 25 Aug 2014 23:10

Good Morning Sue,

It poured with rain all day here too. A typical British Bank Holiday :-D

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 25 Aug 2014 23:08

Sylvia the car will look very smart when all the dings have been repaired. Very often cheaper to just get it done than pay the excess the insurance demands.

The battery has died on my car. With not being allowed to drive I sit in it occasionally to run the engine, but today I went to do that but the battery was dead.
I will get my brother to try starting it with jump leads when he visits.
I haven't actually used the car since last December, although it has been down the road a few times.

Hello from a very wet part of Aus. It has poured all night :-(

Linda - what a shame your daughter and Esme are so ill :-(. I hope things get better soon. My ex SIL would do that often - go off surfing when things were a little tough on the home front.

Tec .................. Linda's daughter shouldn't be taking antibiotics today, if it is a Virus

I took it that the doctor at the Clinic was playing safe ............... take these in a couple of days if you're no better

Linda .............. that was not very thoughtful of your s-i-l ..................... did you say anything to him?

Walking out when help is needed or things are getting bad is what my s-i-l often does :-)

sunny and hot here ........... and also humid :-(

OH has taken the car into be repaired, at a panel beaters .............. the passenger front wing was hit by another car in a parking garage about 2 years ago. Then, he backed into a street sign when we were up north at the end of June

so he decided to get them repaired, instead of just talking about it.

They need the car for 4 days, quote was for just over $1400 (ca. £650-700) .................. our insurance deductible is $1000, and it isn't worth claiming the extra because it could affect his no-claims bonuses.

Tecwyn Report 25 Aug 2014 21:18

Glad that you arrived safely Linda, but I am sorry that you are having to cope with that situation.
Good that your daughter managed to get anti-biotics over the weekend, but is there a chemist to dispense them?
Hope that everyone is improving tomorrow.

Will resist a comment re the football match :-S

I spent the day stripping wallpaper, and sorting more of the Duchess's clothes.
Didn't go to the art show as it poured with rain all day.
