Oh goodness Berona what a nasty fall, I think you need some of that yellow and black tape on the edge of the step.

I am glad that you have got all your trip booked Sylvia, but it is far too early to start planning anything else for Christmas, I am hoping for some more Summer yet. After a bad couple of weeks it is due to get warmer again.

Tec, it is your fault!!!

I went to the optician and looked at the new glasses and was relieved to see that the lenses were fine. Then I put them on and couldn't see a thing after much messing around with them, I had to see an optician who rechecked the prescription and decided to alter it, so I have to go back again next week to see if they will be any better. Apparently the transiition will be worse.

Exactly! I had to ask the girl what on earth she was talking about. Apparently the change from near to distance vision will be greater,so I will need to get used to it. I said I would do that but pointed out that with my current glasses, I can read all of the posters on the wall and read the tiniest print on the sheet they give you to read. With the new glasses I couldn't.

oh Berona

you slipped in while I was typing!!

Hi

you were lucky not to do more damage to yourself!

Hope the bruises are disappearing, and the sore places getting better.

Hi Sue, and everyone

Sue ......... sorry to hear that you have been sick. Glad to see you on the mend

Linda ........ what a rotten time the London family is having. I do hope Esme recovers quickly.

I hope the glasses are OK when you pick them up.

I've been lucky ...................... only had a problem a couple of times since I began wearing glasses when I was about 5 years old

Tec .......... it must have been really nice to have your daughter to yourself for 2 days. :-)

Hi Berona ................... hope the weather is getting a little warmer for you

The weather has changed here .................... well, it is a Stat Holiday on Monday :-)

It's Labour Day weekend ............ traditional end of summer for all North Americans.

It cooled down yesterday ............. I opened the patio door as wide as it would go at about 7:30 am when I saw it was cloudy and the temperature was only about 17C :-)

The sun did come out later, but it only got to about 23C

I did the same this morning ..................... but we got drizzle this afternoon :-) :-)

Rains in the forecast for the weekend and Monday ............... but then "they" say sun and 25C temperatures return towards the end of the week.

It has been sooooooooooooooo nice the last 2 nights, and overnight of course :-)

Today I booked us into the hotels for Christmas ................ in NS, and 1 night each way in Montreal.

We plan to leave NS on Dec 28 ................... New Year will be on the train, somewhere in northwestern Ontario :-)

take care everyone

So glad you had your daughter staying with you, Tec. and to see the Duchess with her - what more could you want than to have your two best girls with you? Glad you enjoyed seeing them.
Linda - hope the new specs are just right for you. Mine will be ready next Tuesday and I'm blind as a bat without them. I scratched and warped the others when I stubbed my toe on a one-inch step (between carpet and tiled floor) and landed flat on my face - two weeks ago. No cuts or abrasions at the time, but I had to use my alert pendant, which brought daughter, grand-daughter and friend - but they had no hope of lifting me from the floor and had to call the ambulance. Very embarrassing for me, as I wasn't hurt. However, the paramedics stood me up (and made it look so easy too) leaving us all gobsmacked. I have had bruises emerging in the strangest places since then and parts of me seem OK until I use them and find them to be very tender. Only real problem was the glasses. I remember getting my hands to my face just as my face hit the tiled floor, so that's no doubt how the glasses didn't break properly, even though I felt the cold tile on my forehead and imagined myself with a fractured skull. Luckily, no damage to me but the new ones are $445 for lenses and frames. The test was covered by Medicare. Lucky I decided that the second pair (full readers) which I now have will do me for a while - otherwise it would have cost more. There was a pensioner discount in there somewhere, but it wasn't much (and I suppose it went on first before it came off - to look good). I'm getting by with the broken ones, but they are lop-sided and a bit scratched on the lens and tend to make things look like TV 'ghosting' - so bear with me if I've made mistakes here. Roll on Tuesday!

Hello Sue,

Just on my way to bed, but popped in to see if you had appeared.

Glad to see that you are a little better - everyone gets ill from time to time, so you must not get annoyed when it happens. Just hope to get better soon, and enjoy the grapes, chocolates, and flowers :-D

My daughter has gone home now, but it was lovely while she was here.

Take care, and get better soon,
Goodnight,
Tec :-)

Hello :-D

Poor little Esme - I hope the antibiotics kick in quickly and she is much better.

It sounds like you and your daughter are very much enjoying your time together :-)

I am feeling a little better but still tired and headachy. I'm not often ill and I get very annoyed with myself when I am :-(

I will be optimistic, and say they will be fine :-D First time.

I've never really had any problems, but they could never seem to get the Duchess's glasses right first time.

There was a phone message to say my new glasses are here, so I will go for them tomorrow. Are we taking bests as to whether they will be acceptable

Linda, Glad to see that you are back home, and hopefully can get some rest, or at least do things at your own pace.
Sorry you had a bad journey home.

Pleased that your daughter is a bit better, it must have been awful to be so ill.
Poor little Esme, there seems to be no let up. Hopefully the anti-biotics will kick in and improve things for her.

Oh dear Sue, I am really sorry that you are ill, I hope you are better soon

I am glad you had a nice time with your daughter Tec. I am back home now, but the journey was horrendous, it took far longer than normal. My daughter is on the mend but Esme has now been given some very strong antibiotics for ten days. They will make her sick and give her the runs which isn't good. We had noticed that she seemed to be in pain when her feeding tube was put in and the skin looked sore and red. She has 24 hour access to the children's ward,so they can get her checked quickly,so she went yesterday. They said it was fine but gave her some cream and a skin spray. They took a swab and phoned today to say there was some staph A, so she needed antibiotics.

That is apparently responsible for a quarter of all sore throats,so that is probably what her mum has had. She is so run down that it floored her, she really was dreadfully ill

Hello, :-)

Today has been a "non day" it has been grey and drizzly all day. Never really got light. I couldn't settle to do anything, so really did nothing. :-(

My daughter was here for two days. It was lovely to have her here. We went out for a meal on Wednesday evening, and went to visit the Duchess yesterday for a couple of hours. She was quite happy, and it was a good visit.

Sue I am sorry to see that you have been feeling unwell. I hope that you are feeling better today.

Linda - Where are you? I hope that your daughter is feeling better now, and you too.

Hi Sue, and everyone

Linda .......... I'm sorry to hear your daughter is so sick. I do hope she gets better soon.

Your s-i-l sounds a lot like mine .................... daughter was in hospital for about 3 days when she had our grandson. S-i-l did not wash any of the dishes he used while she was in their, not any of the empty cat food tins ............... and his sister who got into the house to put up banners and balloons for the return home didn't do any clean-up either!

How do I know? ............... daughter told me that she did all the washing up and clearing up when she got home and before she went upstairs to bed.

We went 3 weeks later ................ and s-i-l was leaving his breakfast dishes in the sink for "someone else" to clear up ................. and letting our daughter do all the cooking.

that's only a small sample!

He does take the garbage out .............. but has to be reminded that it is the day!

it is another hot day here ............... it was almost 27C in the shade in my back garden yesterday (Tuesday), and today it has hit 27.5C

That means inside the house is over 32C

it is supposed to cool down tomorrow, and then we have rain or showers at the weekend ................. Monday is Labour Day, a stat holiday :-)

Everybody who is not already back at school will be back on Tuesday, September 2nd.

I spent time today booking our train trip to Halifax at Christmas ................ each of us had enough points to do the trip there for free :-)

The train company doesn't even charge anything for taxes or insurance.

Now, I'm hoping that there might be a "something-off" deal pop up in the next couple of weeks, so I can book the train trip home :-)

I can't wait too long, as the trains get full very quickly around Christmas, and it is not always certain that they will add extra carriages.

We have to stay one night in Montreal each way, as the trains don't quite connect ...................... and Montreal is much nicer than Toronto :-)

Then I have to book the hotels in Halifax ............... we refuse now to stay with our s-i-l. We'll stay in one hotel for 9 nights, and then splurge by moving down to the Westin which is right next to the train station, and very convenient for an early morning departure :-)

The first hotel is on the bus route from our daughter's ............... there's only one bus every hour, but it means we can easily escape if things get bad.

It is amazing what deals you can get on hotels when one books early .................. especially the "luxury" ones!

OH had our car in to have the dents banged out, and painted. They said it would be 4 days, but it was ready by lunchtime today :-)

take care everyone

Lunchtime and a lull while Esme is asleep. My daughter is a little bit better today, but still very ill. It is a long time since I have seen a young healthy person in such a bad way.

OH has been busy all morning taking rubbish and recycling to the tip. SIL is just plain useless and keeps forgetting to put the bins out, plus they seem to get nonstop deliveries in cardboard boxes, so they need getting rid of.

I have managed to tidy the downstairs, but the landing is full of boxes and cases waiting to go up into the loft. OH will put them away no doubt, but maybe after he has tackled the garden which hasn't been touched for weeks.

I know some people are "thinkers" but I honestly wish my daughter had picked a more practical type

I keep telling him that Berona, but will he listen :-|

I hope you don't fall any more, apart from hurting yourself, you don't want to be breaking your new glasses
