Goodnight Linda, sleep well, enjoy the bacon butty :-)

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 30 Aug 2014 22:52

I'm watching because it's on - mindless :-D

I have been a lifelong Newcastle supporter, but they are not doing so well. They need Shearer back :-D

I thought the weather would be good here tomorrow, but now the Welsh forecast is cloudy, and Monday :-0

I'll be playing with my car anyway :-D

LindainHerriotCountry Report 30 Aug 2014 22:44

I am not really watching it, it is just noise in the background as far as I am concerned

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 30 Aug 2014 22:36

There were 9 goals in the Chelsea v Everton match

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 30 Aug 2014 22:34

They seems to be scoring lots of goals so OH is happy

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 30 Aug 2014 22:29

I am sure you will be mesmerised by tonight's football Linda :-D

Yes I hope that Sue is feeling better now. I'm sure she will be well looked after.

Tecwyn Report 30 Aug 2014 22:27

The independent local optician I have had my last two glasses from has closed down. The nearest is now in Aberystwyth 45 miles away.
I might as well go the 65 miles to the small firm I used for many years without a problem.

Just need to check out the current parking situation as the town has changed considerably

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 30 Aug 2014 22:23

Oh good Tec, the football is on again :-(

I hope Sue is OK, I am sure her OH will be looking after her

LindainHerriotCountry Report 30 Aug 2014 22:21

That was sad Sylvia.

We don't have a two step eye testing as you describe. Here we just have opticians who test your eyes, the same shop sells the frames, but they order in the lenses from large national companies, then put them in the frames before you get them Some of the smaller opticians don't even have technicians to put the lenses into the frames, they actually send the frames you have chosen away and they come back fitted in

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 30 Aug 2014 22:14

Sylvia that was a dreadful accident, and a terrible tragedy for the family. Sheep do cause accidents, specially on narrow roads.
We have many more sheep straying onto the roads in the winter months than we do in summer. They can be a hazard in heavy snow, as they tend to settle on the tarmac roads where I assume it must be warmer. Sometimes a hump in the road can be a sheep covered in snow.

My last three cars have been automatic. They are much better and more responsive than even 10 years ago.
Though I still appreciate the benefits of a manual gearshift

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 30 Aug 2014 22:05

Tec ...............

I take you have an automatic drive car?

OH still much prefers manual drive ................ but of course has to have automatic when we rent a car.

we had a close friend in NZ who died because of sheep.

Her daughter was driving up this steep, unpaved road to their property when a sheep jumped out.

As Huia knows, many of those roads have no or very little verge ........... so the car went over the edge and rolled down the hill.

The daughter was badly injured, but our friend was killed.

That happened about 2 weeks before I arrived in NZ to spend 2 months with OH and daughter who were on sabbatical there.

Our friend's husband insisted that we stay with him and another daughter, as had been planned.

It was a very sad time.

Linda ...................

I had the most incredible short sight problem, up until 2001 when I had cataracts removed. The specialist put in new artificial lenses that changed my sight to long distance ............. so I now only have reading glasses.

The opticians make a slight alteration to the reading prescription as they get the lenses made (as they are allowed to here) .................. so they graduate from reading at the bottom through "computer distance" to clear at the very top.

Before 2001, I wore graduated reading - computer - distance for many years ....................... with extremely thick lenses, until the more modern lightweight ones came in, made first of all by Nikon in Germany.

I do know what you have to go through ............. but I never experienced that with any of the opticians that I went to.

I have to say that I have always gone to a specialist optometrist in their own practise, and then taken that prescription into the opticians for manufacture. I've never used the "eye test service" offered by optometrists in the major chain that I now go to.

Tec Big Congrats !!! to you about getting your license back :-D :-D

~~~~~~s to Sue, Linda and all :-D :-D <3 <3
Tecwyn Report 30 Aug 2014 21:59
Sylvia I will be - here, there, and everywhere now :-D
Huia - Sheep can be incredibly stupid at times, but I still like them.
Love it when they "take on"a sheepdog, and and it becomes a first to blink contest :-D.
Archie will just be a passenger in the car as there will be nothing for him to do except his watch his right half do all the work :-D
Linda - I went to a large well known national opticians once, and once only. Since then prefer small private ones with maybe two or three shops in a close area.
I agree the choice of frames is limited compared to the big boys, but always find some to suit.
I remember last time the young lady directed me to the very expensive "designer" range.
I gave her a hard look, and said "Do I look as if I need designer frames" :-D
She left me alone after that.
LindainHerriotCountry
LindainHerriotCountry Report 30 Aug 2014 21:47
I wonder why I go to that optician as well, it is a large well known national franchise. I think I should change but the two in the town had such a limited choice of frames when I did look at them
I am sorry you didn't get the jump leads this afternoon Tec, but after all this time, one mire day to wait isn't long
Huia
Huia Report 30 Aug 2014 21:30
Sheep are always a hazard, Tec. They start going in one direction, then suddenly change their minds (if they have any) and go in another, or just stand and stare stupidly at you, or amble slowly down the middle of the road in front of you.
Happy and safe driving, Tec. I hope Archie has been well instructed.
SylviaInCanada
SylviaInCanada Report 30 Aug 2014 21:26
Tec ................. I am so glad that you have got your driving license back.
We'll never keep track of you now ;-)
you're very welcome to the hugs (( ))
Linda .............. I can't believe that you have such trouble with your optician!
Yes, it is usual to have to adapt a little bit to a new prescription, and yes it is usual that graduated lens from reading to distance MIGHT need a little getting used to
BUT not to the extent that you are describing!
I'd certainly be having words with the optician .......... along the lines of "Fix these.", to be followed by "I will never return here again. :-)
Sue ................ I hope you are feeling much better.
It is cool again today, and we are having rain showers :-D
Hopefully, this will help the forest fire situation across the province.
The weather people are saying that the hot weather will be back by Thursday.
I do feel sorry for the folk who went camping this weekend, getting one last trip in before school and universities start on Tuesday 2nd.
take care everyone
Oh dear Linda - I am sorry the new glasses were a disappointment - again.
Of course I take full responsibility, so blame me. I was so confident that this time things would be fine.
Just a thought - have you considered changing opticians. I say that, because what they have said to you doesn't make any sense to me - perhaps it's me :-(
Berona your fall sounds more serious than you first described. Thank goodness you didn't do more damage.
The glasses can be replaced, unless of course you go to Linda's optician :-0.
Be very very carefull now until your new glasses are ready.
You are excused practising our tango till then. I can't bear the thought of you prancing about the living room unable to see properly.
Sylvia - Christmas? it's not even September yet :-D.
Thanks for the hug :-) I've heard that you do good hugs :-D
Sue I hope that you are more yourself today :-)
I am such a happy bunny today...................why?
My driving licence popped through the letter box this morning :-D :-D :-D
I am a liberated man, free of these four walls :-D
So many places to go to, but most importantly I can visit the Duchess at least once a week.
Also I can get to have an eye test, the dentist, and the doctors etc etc etc.
Unfortunately the battery on my car is dead, but with the help of my neighbour I am hoping to get it going tomorrow with the jump leads.
Having not driven since before last Christmas, it will feel a bit strange at first, but I'll soon get used to it again. Not as if I have to contend with City traffic :-D
The sheep could be a hazard ;-)
