In that case, I hope it does get better because there is nothing like pottering around the shops.

That is a concept OH does not understand. He goes power shopping. He goes straight to the thing he wants, buys it and goes straight out of the shop

Hello folks :-)

I've had a little look back at the past few posts . Berona , I hope you have got over your nasty fall and I'm so glad to know you only sustained bruises , it could have been so much worse .

Sue , I hope you are feeling better from the virus , it sounds as if it layed you low <3

Linda , I hope your daughter and Esme are both feeling better .

Tec , congratulations on getting your licience back :-D :-D :-D it will make such a great difference to your life to be back on the road .

We have not had any more direct trouble on the allotments , however , the trouble maker has been stirring up as much bother as he can with various other plot holders !! I think his days on the site are numbered as the association committee are compiling a number of complaints against him , fingers crossed there is enough to get him banned from the site !

The Grand children will be going back to school in a few days ( well some of them anyway ) so life should quieten down here , hopefully .

I have borrowed a wheelchair before .............

it was great for getting around the War Museum in Ottawa a few years ago

but there's something in my brain that keeps saying "your knee is getting better. You will be able to go downtown by yourself"

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 31 Aug 2014 21:06

yes, we can ...........

although a push wheelchair is more commonly available

but it's more often getting on and off the bus that is more of a problem

and I often like the stores downtown.

If we go to the mall, I usually try to have 2 things that need to be done, at widely separated stores.

I pick the one in or near the store I really want to look at ................ and send him off to do the other, and say "meet you in xxxx near the xxxxxx" :-)

When I do that .......... he's usually back before me, and often says "well, you didn't buy anything!" Occasionally it's "ah, I knew you'd buy something".

so he knows what I'm up to :-D

I will have no qualms in getting one if I need one. I think there are soon going to be more of them on the pavements than pedestrians

I was thinking the same as Linda - re mobility scooters.
The little one I've been using to get to the village shop, actually belonged to the Duchess, but was hardly used.

It was a huge benefit to me, as my only means to get out anywhere.

The one I have is small, not meant for the road, and breaks down into four parts to fit into the boot of the car.

Some people won't be seen on them, but I didn't care, so long as it helped me.

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 31 Aug 2014 20:58

Can't you hire a mobility scooter at your malls Sylvia. Most of our larger malls and town centres have a hire shop

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 31 Aug 2014 20:54

Linda .................. it seems that more people are becoming aware of the problem with fobs!

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 31 Aug 2014 20:53

I've noticed the lack of independence that I now have ....................

so I know exactly how you feel

I've never driven, but we have a good bus service, and I could get to most places by myself, and very easily.

I very rarely had to call on OH to give me a ride, or pick me up.

Now, I have problems with walking, and he's been driving me everywhere I've needed to go since early this year.

I haven't been shopping at the shops or the mall for months :-(

I'm not complaining about not doing the grocery shopping ........ he's been doing that for years .......... but there's other kinds of shopping I would like to do :-)

The only time he's happy to wander round shops is when we are on holiday :-S

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 31 Aug 2014 20:49

I have heard of that before Sylvia

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 31 Aug 2014 20:49

how is your daughter, and the children?

Have they all recovered from their various sicknesses, or do you have that to deal with when you get there?

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 31 Aug 2014 20:48

Sylvia, it was better in the good old days, when we had something as basic as an ignition key :-( progress?

Linda I have a list of places I want to go to, but the best thing is that I can get to visit the Duchess when I want to.
Then everyday things like doctor, dentist, and optician appointments. Also I no longer need to trouble hospital transport to get to appointments in future.

We tend to take these things for granted, till we can't do it.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 31 Aug 2014 20:47

we were afraid a few weeks ago that we might have to repeat the fob battery experience ............

the car would act up every now and again where OH's fob would not open the doors ........ he'd press and press the button, and nothing.

Then he'd try mine, and mine would work ....... so we exchanged fobs

but then mine would not work the next time

our repair mechanic said at one point that he'd discovered that he could have problems if an Audi was parked nearby ............... so was suggesting that the signals got confused.

Finally, our computer geek said he often had problems in the parking lot near his shop ........ and we had stopped using that lot because we had problems 9 times out of 10. We park on the side street nearby, and no problems

Geek's thoughts was that the problems were due to the huge proliferation of WiFi signals that are now around ............ even I have a free WiFi with his computer that is giving off signals :-(

I am fine Sylvia, yes I am off again tomorrow. I have three more weeks to do, although I suspect it may be one more than that

sorry I missed your comment :-(

How are you today?

Do you go down south again tomorrow?

LindainHerriotCountry

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 31 Aug 2014 20:40

Tec ............... we had to have a new battery put into OH's fob .................

and yes, it did have to be re-programmed

we sat there in the dealership for almost 2 hours while they did it

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 31 Aug 2014 20:39

sorry ...... had to go help fold sheets :-)

and make my lunch

Sylvia - It has been a wonderful day. Feel as if I've been let out of the coop :-D

It has been nine months since I last drove my car Linda, but within 5/10 minutes it felt as if I'd never been gone.
Wonderful to have my independence back.

I will take the fobs to the dealer tomorrow. I understand that they have to be re-programmed.
