Are you sure four is enough :-D

Still half an hour before I get to London, then an hour and a half before I finally get there :-(

At least it is getting sunnier as I head south

Good idea about the mobile phone. Most things can be remedied with a little common sense, and pre-planning.

I will now have four wheelchairs :-D

LindainHerriotCountry Report 1 Sep 2014 18:17

I m pleased that you are going to have a wheelchair upstairs, you know I worry about the hopping.

If your new wheelchair is lighter,it will be easier for you to manoeuvre around downstairs as well.

If you book a train ticket and ask for assistance, they should produce a ramp

Often places with steps have side entrances that can be used. I think the thing to do is to always take the phone number for any shop you are specifically going to. If you get there and have a problem, you can ring them on your mobile and get them to come out to you. Old buildings do pose problems but the shop keepers always come out to help people in my town. They don't lose a sale that way

Glad that you've got room to move Linda. :-)

Today I have ordered a lightweight aluminium wheelchair to go in the car, which will free up the one I use now to go upstairs.

I am familiar with some of the hazards to wheelchair users out in the big wide world.
Spotting where the dropped kerbs in an area you use often is beneficial.
Access into shops, public buildings etc is getting better, though I remember that access into my local Council offices is up a flight of about ten stone steps being part of the very grand entrance - so access denied to me :-|

Never mind - you just have to solve each challenge as you encounter it.

I will in time discover where I can, and cannot go.
Even using Archie, I couldn't use the local train service as the platform is too low down to easily get onto the new trains that have much higher steps.
You do need to be quite athletic to get onto the trains.
The villagers sent in a petition a few years ago to have the platform raised, but nothing happened.
Elderly people too find this frustrating, as they can't use the trains either. How silly.

Hope you arrive safely at your destination.

Well I am travelling the length ofe the country on a train again.luckily the person in the et next to me hasn't turned up so I have plenty of room.

I expect you are out and about in your car Tec, discovering the frustration of not being able to get into places because they are not wheelchair friendly,or not being ble to go down the pavement because someone has parked a car half on the kerb,or a shop has put an advertising board out

Berona Report 1 Sep 2014 08:08

Good to know that everyone is getting 'back on deck' again. We've had a lovely day to-day - 24c for the first day of Spring. Overcast now, with a forecast of 'some' rain - (probably not) and it's still quite warm.

Tec - When you settle down and finish flying around now that you have wings again - you will probably find that your car battery needs help. That's what I found in the last couple of years before giving up driving. Luckily, one of my sons had an old charger and he fixed it up for me. Came in very handy many times.

Once again I've missed my friends :-( Note to self "I must get up earlier in the morning".....but it's so chilly.

Yesterday was the first sunny day in over a week and what a glorious Spring day it was. It reached 20C at lunchtime.

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 31 Aug 2014 22:45

Trouble is that it's winter time for Sue, and she is probably reluctant to leap out of bed at the crack of dawn.

I noticed today that the clock in my car is still on winter time, and the date said

8th August :-D
