LindainHerriotCountry Report 1 Sep 2014 23:04

I had better go to sleep as I gave to get Eve up early. It is her last week at nursery, she starts big school next Monday. She only goes to nursery on three days a week, so it is going to come as a shock when school is five days

Goodnight everyone

We know you are silly Sue :-D

SueMaid Report 1 Sep 2014 22:58

Hello Sylvia - sounds like a real mess. We have had some teachers' strikes here too for some of the same reasons.

I'm up early Linda because I kept missing everyone. I hope you found a happier household although I see your SIL isn't well.

Tec - I think I have far more pots than I need :-(. Did I go a bit silly? :-D

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 1 Sep 2014 22:57

Well - the fob locked the car last night :-D
I haven't been out in the car today, because I was busy indoors, doing washing, sorting more clothes for the charity shop, and spending money on the internet.

My brother is coming tomorrow. They are back from IOM.
He is going to check the tyre pressures with his electronic pump that plugs into the cigar lighter.

Sylvia the educational situation sounds very like it is here.
I feel very sorry for the teachers and pupils. The Minister for Education keep changing things.
The last one was a complete disaster, but thankfully was sacked.

That is odd Tec, so do they work again?

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 1 Sep 2014 22:45

Have you planned what to put in all your pots Sue?

Maybe the new neighbours will come to like the area in time.

Linda. I read the handbook :-D
Apparently, if the car is not opened for three weeks, then the fob is automatically disabled, but when access to the car is by emergency key, the fob becomes enabled.

Too clever by half these new cars :-(

That does sound like a real mess Sylvia.

Eve got some new school shoes at the weekend, but she is not impressed because they are black - she wanted pink

Hi Sue, and everyone

it was cool this morning .................. but it's not too bad out there, cloudy with sunny periods.

It's also Labour Day .............. but it is very quiet outside.

The schools will not be opening tomorrow, as they should for the new year of teaching.

The teachers are on strike because the government (their employers) locked them out

work that one out :-D

This has been ongoing since last may, negotiations have been going on for 18 months ................ teachers want more pay (got a 0% increase last time), but more importantly they want to be able to bargain class size and content.

One teacher interviewed this morning said that last school year she had a class of 32 .................... 27 of them were boys, and 14 had special needs of some sort. They didn't have room in the classroom for all the special aides ............ nor to separate the special needs kids (eg, the one who needed quiet from the one who couldn't stop making noises)

In fact, the matter of class content and size is before the courts ............. the government lost a court case twice ruling what they did regarding this in 2002 was wrong, but they appealed to the Curt of Appeal. That doesn't come up until next month

It's all a huge mess!

and I feel so sorry for the parents who have to find child sitting.

The majority of parents are in favour of the teachers re class size and content ............ so there is not too much anger from them.

take care everyone

xx

You are up early Sue is this because it is the first day of spring

Did you go and get your car key fixed Tec

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 1 Sep 2014 22:39

Yes it is although overcast. After two glorious warm Spring days it looks like more rain.

Yesterday we did loads of work in the garden. The veggie garden looks good and ready for planting. My garden is tidy and weedless. I sorted my pots out and threw out a couple of plants that have died over winter.

We also met our new neighbour. He and his wife bought the house next door as an investment. They are Sydneysiders and really don't like it here or the house very much. That doesn't bode well :-(

Hello everyone - up early this morning :-D

LindainHerriotCountry Report 1 Sep 2014 21:41

My daughter came and collected me from the station, so I didn't get wet. Eve came too in pyjamas and a blanket. I think she likes going out in the dark in the car.

SIL has hurt his back,so my daughter had to come home from work at midday to look after the girls. It has happened before so he is going to see an osteopath tomorrow. She is working on her computer now trying to make up some of the time because she only went back this morning having had all last week off

LindainHerriotCountry Report 1 Sep 2014 18:55

Oh dear Von, I do have a brolly, but luckily the first part of my journey is on the underground, then from Waterloo to Surbiton. I then have to wait for a bus with no cover. If it is raining, I will get my SIL to collect me from the station
