My last real contact from school, a girl who was in my year from the age of 11, moved to Beaumaris, Anglesey last year ..................

she married a man much older than she was, and when he died at the age of 99 two years ago, she decided to leave the place where they had lived for about 30 years.

She seems very happy there, and has formed a new circle of friends.

Tec ................

one of our duties as Prefects and Senior Prefects was to stand inside the door, and take the names of late comers

It meant that we missed Assembly for the week that we were on duty :-)

It was interesting ............... the two Captains of School were responsible for organising the prefects for duty before school, break times and lunch times.

The two Vice-Captains were "aides" to the Captains ..... and bascially had to check that everyone was doing their duty.

Prefects were also allowed to give detention for certain misdemeanors, and then sometime had to be on detention duty.

We also had to stand in for teachers who were absent or involved in something ...............

................. the worst was when the girls were left without a Phys Ed teacher for one whole term ......................... it was decided that a Senior Prefect and a prefect could actually take the lower school classes as long as we only did certain things with them. So no gym work, other than running around the gym. But we could take them out to run around the field, or play tennis or rounders, or play table tennis in the changing room.

I'm pretty sure that would not be allowed now!

I don't remember we had any boys selling porno ............... but we did have some right characters along the way :-D

I'm off to bed now,

Good Morning Sue - sorry to miss you,

Goodnight,
Tec :-)

Goodnight Linda - sleep well tonight

Tecwyn Report 4 Sep 2014 22:57

Well the base is the old one from the previous mattress. We just bought the mattress, so it isn't worth taking.

Among my brothers many vehicles he also has a large van that will take the mattress.
My sister and her OH will be here on Monday, so there will be plenty of help to get the mattress down stairs.

I am tired,so I will say goodnight, hello Sue when you get up

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 4 Sep 2014 22:53

It is odd that they wouldn't take the base as well

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 4 Sep 2014 22:51

No - My SIL apart from working for the cat rescue charity, she also raises funds for her local hospice.
They apparently have a large shop where they sell big items.
She looked at the mattress and said that as it is in new condition and an expensive one the hospice shop could sell it for around £125 - I wonder?

Anyway that will be gone, so can get the base picked up by the council. At least I can move that around the room.

LindainHerriotCountry Report 4 Sep 2014 22:46

Did you free cycle it?

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 4 Sep 2014 22:44

I'll see - won't be talked into anything I'm not sure of.

The double bed is going on Monday, so I can get on with the bedroom :-D

I hope the alternative is acceptable in that case

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 4 Sep 2014 22:37

Both firms said they would be four to six weeks from the manufacturers - probably on a slow boat from China :-D

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 4 Sep 2014 22:33

I suppose they are just selling them in and rely on being able to get them from their supplier

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 4 Sep 2014 22:27

The message said they could supply a "similar" one at the same price.

It is quite expensive, so I want to know how similar, and how does the weight compare to the one I wanted.

Why do these firms advertise products through Amazon when they don't actually have the product in stock?

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 4 Sep 2014 22:24

Oh dear that is annoying. I bet the alternative is heavier and more expensive

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 4 Sep 2014 22:21

Another disappointment today.
I ordered the lightweight wheelchair from another firm, as the first one was out of stock.
When I got home there was an e-mail to say that they too were out of stock.
The want me to phone them tomorrow to discuss an alternative. :-|

LindainHerriotCountry Report 4 Sep 2014 22:16

Of course not, you deserve it.

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 4 Sep 2014 22:11

Plants are my only vice :-D

I don't smoke, drink, gamble, chase wicked women (difficult on one leg :-D)

and I haven't been to a garden centre on my own for over a year.

I couldn't come home empty handed could I?

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 4 Sep 2014 22:06

Of course you were Tec,

I am glad you enjoyed your day out, but you are as bad as Sue when it comes to garden centres

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 4 Sep 2014 22:02

Hello Everyone, :-)

Was a lovely hot sunny day here.

I intended visiting the Duchess, but she apparently had a dental appointment, so I am now going tomorrow.

Instead, as it was such a lovely day, I took myself off to Ruthin 50 miles away. The nursery that specialises in the streptocarpus plants I collect is there.
Needles to say, I bought more plants, now I have nowhere to put them, but I couldn't resist.
The nursery is miles along a single track with a few passing places.
I thought that I was hopelessly lost, never to be found, but by some miracle came across the place purely by chance.
The wildlife up in the hills was incredible. There were pheasants, squirrels everywhere, and even a fox cub sitting in the road that I had to stop for.

Linda I hope that you have arrived home safely. Hope Eve approved of the visiting teacher :-)

Sylvia I was also a senior prefect at grammar school. One of my duties was to stand by the gate and take the names of late comers in the morning.
The Head Boy was the son of the Parish Vicar.
Amongst other activities, he sold pornographic pictures to other boys :-D
Sorry to laugh, but I found that funny in later life.
Of course I was a paragon of virtue ;-)
