Hello Persie :-)
On my way to bed, but just spotted you there.
Glad to see you have done your civic duty :-D The Monte Cecilia school sounds good with it's art exhibition and café etc.
In this part of Wales it often seems a waste of time voting, because it's wall to wall Plaid Cymru, the National Party of Wales, and was ever thus. The Plaid MP enjoys a massive majority over any opposition.
The reason being that this county - Gwynedd, is the most Welsh of all the Welsh counties. Furthest West from the English border, predominately Welsh speaking, very rural, and mostly farming. Sheep and cattle.
While I wouldn't vote for the sitting MP, because I disagree with Plaid's idealism and agenda, I must say he is very clever, and a very good MP.
Well I really must go to bed as it's nearly midnight, and it's been one hell of a week one way and another, and I'm frazzled.
Enjoy your day Persie, hope the sun shines, Goodnight, Tec :-)

Well as I was saying before I hit control instead of shift to do a capital letter and lost it all .. probably wasn't worth the screen I was typing on anyway.
We did our bit yesterday and went and voted , very strange the way people in Labour stronghold electorates gave their vote to the sitting member but their party vote to National.. looks like National will have a lot of list MPs and could govern alone, where as before they had to have three small parties in with them.. if you understand what I mean.
However the highlight of our voting was going to the Monte Cecilia school to vote. Had not been there before and after voting we went into the main building which is an art gallery and they have a really nice café there as well, where we did partake of some refreshments and then we voted on the piece of art we liked best.
After that was shopping and he is in charge of the trolley... most of the time.. I am a bit like Archie when I get into the carpark, the trolley wants to go one way and me the other.
And no Wales better stay as it is.. we could never see that happening it would be too silly.. and we have enough silly here.

Yes I did read it it Sylvia, thank you.
Jean Charest could well be right in his predictions. David Cameron who was obviously in panic just prior to yesterdays referendum offered the Scottish Parliament all sorts of bribes if Scotland remained in the UK.
He must now honour those promises, but I can see trouble ahead. The next few months will be very interesting.

oops ......................
sorry for the mistake Tec!
Have you followed that link I gave to what I posted on another thread?
The Canadian, who was in government in 1980 and 1995 and then became Premier of Quebec .................. thinks you'll see another referendum in Scotland within 10 years. With lots of nastiness between now and then.

Hello Sylvia,
I should explain that Plaid Cymru is the official National Party of Wales. They wouldn't have had any connection with the Free Wales Army. The aims and aspirations of Plaid Cymru is for a separate Wales, as was the aims of the Scottish National Party until yesterday.
They must have been seriously disheartened after the Scottish result, because if it isn't going to happen in Scotland, it certainly isn't going to happen in Wales. In my opinion the United Kingdom is too small to be broken up in the way. I do agree that the Westminster Government is very remote to Wales, and must seem even more remote to the Scots, which is why more power is needed by regional governments, instead of everything being dictated by Westminster.

we also have a General Election next year ............. October-ish I believe.
The campaigning has already started :-)
The new Parliament opened last Monday, and everything that is done from now on will be aimed at improving Harper's image to the voters ........... including his overseas commitments to the ISIS campaign, etc etc.
He's been in now for 10 years ................... I just want change
Pierre Elliott Trudeau's son Justin is looking good at the moment as Leader of the Liberal Party :-)
and Harper is obviously scared of him .................... the Conservatives had been making dirty ads about Justin since he was elected Leader last year.

Hi Tec
it sounds as if you had a good visit with your daughter
Isn't it nice to be able to nag your daughter, as a change! :-)
Yes ........ we gathered that the ordinary Welsh folk did not agree with Plaid Cymru .............. and Geraint was greatly heartened by the reaction of the people in the area.
He is the one who died just a few months ago, and you recognised the area where he lived.

Hello, :-)
Nice day here again, quite warm. The evenings are really drawing in now though.
My daughter and SIL arrived just before lunch. They were very impressed with the new kitchen. Every drawer and cupboard were inspected, and approved :-D There were one or two "helpful" suggestions :-D SIL broke down all the empty cardboard boxes that I used to empty the old kitchen, then filled his car with them and lots of no longer required items to take to the local re-cycling depot.
They then went to visit the Duchess. I didn't go as I was there yesterday. The visit went well. Then they left for home about 5pm.
Sylvia - I was aware of the troubles when the Free Wales Army were active in the 60s/70s. Many holiday homes belonging to the English were destroyed. It was very unfortunate that your OHs cousin was targeted in that way, particularly as it was to be his permanent home. The idealism of the FWA was not that of the ordinary Welsh people, who were as horrified as everyone. Apart from the odd incident the organisation has died a death.
The village I live in is about 60% Welsh, 40% English. Everyone gets on very well.
Huia, It will be our time for a general election next May. The campaign will probably start in the New Year, and by May we will all be sick to death of politicians. By the time of the election I won't care if Mickey Mouse runs the country. The shower we have in now are hopeless, and the main opposition worse. Where have all the old fashioned Statesmen gone?
Berona - I'm sure that you would find the right walker very helpful, but it must be right for you. Perhaps there is a Mobilty shop somewhere near you, where you could go to try various types. I used one here before my op when I had difficulty walking, and found it a great help. You need one with brakes, and a seat to sit on. The one I had, that was in fact my mother's, had a basket under the seat to carry small items about from A to B.
Linda it sounds like major work is being carried out at your son's - glad you didn't have to dig the trench :-D Yes I did get told off for doing everything myself but I explained to my daughter that as she had seriously hurt her back I didn't want her here trying to help. She is still in pain, but apparently much better. So it was my turn to nag her about getting something done about it.

Hi Sue, and everyone
it's a lovely sunny day today, about 21C ........... very different from the rain and chilliness of yesterday :-)
Berona ....... I agree with Linda. You really need to get a walker better suited to you. We don't want you falling or getting stuck.
Linda .............. housework IS hard work :-)
I won't post anything on here ................ but if any of you are interested in a Canadian politician's take on the Scottish referendum, here's a link to what I posted a few minutes ago on a thread I started early yesterday morning

I think that you should definitely invest in a new walker Berona, getting stuck sounds drastic.
OH and son have been digging a deep trench across the front garden so that a new water pipe can be put in to replace the old lead one, it has been very hard work for them. They still have a bit more to do tomorrow. I did lots of garden tidying and went to the skips, plus did housework . I haven't worked hard at all today
I expect that your daughter has totally reorganised your kitchen by now Tec, plus given you a good telling off for doing it on your own

Tec - it was good to see that you have been to see the Duchess and that she was able to talk to you. Also, your daughter will want to do something for you - so think up something she can do. I'm sure it will make her happy to be able to do it. I have brought in the 'walker' which was given to me last year and which I have not used as yet - only on two occasions when I attended a complex meeting at another villa in our complex. It's an early model and far too low for me, but great to lean on when walking around the house. I will buy a newer model. The newer ones are adjustable. I tried to sit in this one yesterday and almost went into panic mode, trying to get out of it. I need to sit 'high' and use arm-rests to push myself up. Hope you are not over-doing things. Give Milo a pat from me. |

Hello all, sorry I didn't pop in yesterday. I had signs to take down, and went out in the afternoon. Today is election day, but a lot of people have already voted. Early voting is something that used to be restricted to those who would be out of the country or in hospital or whatever, but now anybody can do it, I did it 3 days ago. I am not sure I approve of it though, it means the parties don't get a chance to change the minds of those who are hide-bound or blinkered. Ah, well, we will have to start work on them next week. See if we can make them 'see the light'.

Tec .................
I don't know if I've ever told you this .......................
Plaid Cymru hotheads were very active about 25/30 years ago, and went around burning houses belonging to non-Welsh people, especially "summer homes"
They burnt one particular one in a small village in North Wales that belonged to one of OH's cousins ......................
unfortunately, they were "from away", and hadn't done their homework
yes, it was a "summer home" that was being renovated ................. but he was born of Welsh parents, had a very Welsh name, and was about to move into the house to live there permanently!
The whole village knew this .................. and almost all of them then set to to clean up the place, and re-build the damaged bits
Geraint (I said his name was very Welsh!) said the good outdid the bad!
He lived there until he died earlier this year.
