Tecwyn Report 23 Sep 2014 23:06

Do you mean the oven?

It has a shiny black frame/border with a glass door.....very smart :-D

LindainHerriotCountry Report 23 Sep 2014 23:04

It sounds very good. What colour is it?

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 23 Sep 2014 22:57

I have a gas hob set into the worktop at a height that is safer for me to use from the wheelchair. The oven is in a housing at shoulder height.

LindainHerriotCountry Report 23 Sep 2014 22:54

I like the electric fan oven but I still have a gas hob. I prefer that because I can control the heat on the pans better

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 23 Sep 2014 22:52

Yes I realised that things I have cooked so far needed less heat and time.

Our old cooker was gas, this one is electric, but I think I'm going to like it

LindainHerriotCountry Report 23 Sep 2014 22:46

You just need to put the temperature down a bit from what you are used to

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 23 Sep 2014 22:42

Hmm much healthier, but a treat now and then does no harm.

I am getting used to my new cooker - it has a fan oven that I didn't have before

We never have biscuits in the house, we don't eat them. We eat lots of fruit instead

Linda, your son's house does sound like a nightmare right now, and I can visualise it. It is a nuisance that that wall hasn't been knocked down.
I suppose they want to get as much done before the cold weather arrives.
It is surprising though, once the ceilings and walls are made good what a difference it makes, especially if radiators are fitted.
There is a good wooden floor in the front room here, and quarry tiles in the back room. We left it that way, as the quarry tiles are in good condition without any damp problem. We do have a slight damp problem in two wall, even though they were treated.
Your son and his partner are very brave to take that on, but have the satisfaction that they will end up with a beautiful home, the way they want it.

I think you should sit down now, with a coffee, and a chocolate biscuit :-D

LindainHerriotCountry Report 23 Sep 2014 20:25

I have been busy today trying to catch up with a bit of housework.Downstairs I have washed down all the doors and skirtings, cleaned all the window frames, cleaned the windows and washed down all of the kitchen cupboards. I still have upstairs to do, I will catch up with that in the next couple of days

Esme had her first day at nursery on her own today, I have been thinking about her all day. The nursery staff were assessed on their ability to do the tube feed this morning, apparently they weren't supposed to be doing it unsupervised until they had been signed off. I didn't leave them until I was happy they could cope alone.

LindainHerriotCountry Report 23 Sep 2014 20:15

I had better do short posts while I can :-(

My son's house is still basically a building site, there isn't a single room which you would call habitable, but things are starting to progress. OH and son spent most of thee time digging a large trench across the garden so a new water pipe can go in. The old pipe is lead and the test results have just come back showing the amount of lead in the standing water is too high. The water board will replace the pipe for free as far as the boundary, the plumber working on the house will put a new pipe in from that point.

The plumber keeps turning up and doing bits, he put the new boiler in last week, so they now have hot water. They also have a few working radiators, he is putting some more in this week.

OH took the bathroom ceiling down and with son put some more insulation between the rafters, That has to be finished next weekend because the plasterers are coming next Monday to put the new ceiling up and plaster the walls. The plumber has the new bathroom suite on order, so hopefully that will be up and running soon.

The plasterers are also going to put a new ceiling in the kitchen and do the walls there, but the electricians still need to put some extra sockets in before they can do the walls. Once that is done they can get a kitchen put in. At the moment the only thing in the kitchen is an old sink. They have a fridge and microwave, but that is the limit of the cooking.

The biggest problem is the disappearing builder who was supposed to knock the wall through between the two downstairs rooms before they moved in, he didn't turn up and they can't get hold of him. Another one turned up at the weekend to give them a quote. Until the wall is knocked out, they can't sort the floor out. At the moment it is a wooden floor in the front, but old quarry tiles in the back room. Unfortunately it looks like they need taking up and the whole floor digging out. The damp proof specialist said that they should not put concrete in, it needs specialist limecrete which is breathable, but the people who do that can't do it until January. Only when the floor is sorted out can they put the insulation boards on the front and back walls which at the moment have been stripped back to bare brick

The rest of the house is in a similar state, a bit of a nightmare really but it will be worth it in the long run

I have internet problems again tonight, so I may well vanish

That was a nice story Persie, I hope the company gave her her money back

It isn't a good year Sylvia, but as we get older sadly that happens

I thought you might like to read this.. the young lass was on our TV tonight being interviewed. She did not realise that someone saw what she had done.. She was more concerned she might be in trouble because she could be seen as serving herself.

I am not sure about that Sylvia, some landlords do not look after their own properties properly, poor maintenance etc, probably collect their rent themselves and don't have a property manager to keep both the tenants and landlords on their toes. They are talking about rental properties having to have a warrant of fitness.. trouble is that some inspectors are more extreme than others. A leaky tap could count against you.. now we don't know whether the tap leaks until the tenant tells the property manager and they in turn tell us and we arrange for it to be fixed.

One of my best friends would be a wonderful tenant, she got her brother-in-law to fix locks and paid him. She even wallpapered her room herself.. she was shocked when I told her how much is not her responsibility but the landlords.. we also have to observe health and safety.. ie tenant gets cockroaches, we pay for fumigation, they get them again and we pay again.. they get rats we explain to keep rubbish bags secure and pay for rat exterminator.. But we did draw the line when one lot complained about fleas which were from their dog and they are not meant to have one. We had to fix the front door where the dog had ground a hole into it.

This was going to be a short post but uh oh got carried away again... so what's new you all say..hence I only pop in now and then.

Esme will get used to other children being around and it is amazing how quickly they come to accept the care givers attention. (well hopefully)

You won't know yourself Tec with this new kitchen of yours.. I can even see you being beside yourself with (that girlfriend of yours) Joy.

Maisie you are probably better behaved than Kayli.. she has wet the couch a few times. same place, cover comes off and washed (repeatedly).. and the cushion seating removed.. trouble is she can get up on the base part and it has these bits of Velcro that are rather great to wrap her little teeth around.. so base now gets removed from family room as well and Kayli has time out in the laundry with her dirt box.

oh dear .......... another death of a close friend :-(

that is the 9th relative or close friend who has died this year, one a month

This is the wife of OH's best friend ......... OH and G met on the very first day of high school. They were each other's best man, and we always stayed with them whenever we went to the UK.

We did know that she was having serious heart trouble, and had been unable to travel away from home this year.

I want this year to end!
