Happy Birthday Tec - hope you had a lovely day <3

It's Australia Day here today (Tuesday). Not much happening because it's raining. We've been busy doing some renovations in the house. OH decided to replace the old skirting boards in the house. Messy job but after each room is finished it gets a good clean so that works for both of us. Who knows why our men suddenly get the urge to change something around the house or garden but I'll go with it :-D

A year of holidays sounds good to me, Linda...enjoy :-D

Happy birthday to Tec (Sunday).His daughter will be with him, so I hope they have a lovely family day

I have just booked yet another holiday This time a weeks break to Centre Parcs for a family holiday in August. Costing an arm and a leg because it is in the school holidays.
It is going to be non stop holidays this year, but the first proper one is not until may, so I can probably fit something else in before then :-D

Back to the mundane, there is a duster with my name on it :-(

but I knew nothing about this family except what B told me!

I did know her mother and father because we met them occasionally, and I knew her mother had a Scottish accent, but her father's accent was "general", and anyway, he never spoke very much!

I'm guessing that she herself didn't know that her father was born in Lancashire, and that his grandparents came from Ireland!

Family stories should always be totally disregarded in my experience :-(

the lancashire opc site is excellent, and I've always found it a huge help for my own family!

I must admit that it was a bit of a shock when it was found sis-i-l's father was from a Lancashire family though, as she was always adamant that they were all Scottish, and her mother and father were the first to move down south.

Only her mother's family was firmly rooted in Greenock!

we're always cautioning others about believing family stories!!

I was having a go at my sis-i-law's family last night ........... that's my brother's widow.

She was born in Greenock, then they moved down to Lancashire. She maintained the family was Scottish.

I could never find anything, then an ex-member found her parents marriage certificate on Scottish People, and very kindly used his credits to get a copy for me. Following the parents named on that showed that her father had been born in Lancashire. :-0

It seems that his family went from Ireland to Liverpool, and then to other parts of Lancashire. His father died early, he joined the navy as a boy in 1912, but left in 1918 and sometime after that ended up in Greenock where he met and married sis-i-l's mother.

I was trying to sort out the Lancashire part last night.

I have a consultation with the specialist on April 4, then I guess it will be another wait to have the endoscopy done.

I am absolutely banging my head on the wall with Tecs family, no wonder he has given up on them. I am just going round in circles yet again

Good luck finding more info about Tec's relatives. I've come to a standstill with a couple of people but they aren't really my direct line so I've put them on hold.

The 1939 register is interesting but doesn't really tell me a great deal more than I already know.

Very warm here already so we have a hot day coming up with thunderstorms :-(

I got that same email, Linda, only I hadn't yet bothered buying any credits. I was still just "thinking" about it!!

I also got the added information that as a "valued subscriber" the price of my next renewal will be frozen at the "current" cost plus a 10% loyalty.

New subscribers taking out the World sub will be paying .................. ta da ................. $239.50 Australian.

I have just had an email from FMP saying that as a valued customer,that from Feb 12th they are giving me unlimited look ups on the 1939 register as part of my subscription. Good but annoying as I have not long ago bought loads of credits to view. It

I have no problem getting in via my book mark which takes me to the general board. I often get the error after I submit the post but I know that it has always posted, so I just come out and go back in again

I think GR will wind down as they concentrate more on FMP which is where they make the money selling the records. The only thing FMP doesn't have which its arch rival Ancestry dies is an ability to put your tree on it. I think that GR was supposed to provide that facility for them, but they haven't really marketed it correctly. I wonder if at some stage they will absorb the tree storage bit from here into FMP

I am currently spending my time up Tecs tree, he has one particularly difficult set of grandparents. I had tried to help him a couple of years ago but it was like wading through treacle The new 1939 records have been great, although they have opened, or confirmed a can of worms. I have finally found the correct death and probate for his grandfather, so I am going to start from scratch on them. Not that I expect to get very far as poor Tec has spent hour after hour on them over the years

You are more or less reiterating me Sylvia in that GR can not keep its house in order.

I have clicked on the top of the page for this one and will start all over again.

I click on GR in my Bookmarks, then move around the Boards.

I usually start with My Threads so I can catch up on threads that I'm interested in ............... but I have only been able to get the Error message for the past week, and it never opens.

so I go to the individual Boards.

Hey that one worked... BTW Zilch is one of our tubs of ice-cream. It is very nice low sugar content etc.
