Hello you two :-)

Time for coffee, my turn tonight, you can have cheese scone or Yorkshire curd tart to go with it

Oh yes, it's all about money grabbing. Also if they are tenants for longer than a year on the same contract they aquire tenants rights, that don't apply to a short term let of 12 months.
Grand daughter pays rent from 1st July, although she wn't actually live there till mis September.
That's for continuity of rent from when others move out. :-(

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 29 Jun 2013 22:04

That is so the rent can go up every year and so they can pay the agency another arrangement fee even though they are staying

The house grand daughter is going to actually belongs to one of the lecturers, and is on the approved list from the uni.
Seen photo's of inside and out, and it looks quite nice, and in a nice area within walking distance of uni.
It is expensive, but it is three years of their lives. They have to renew contracts every year though.

Well, if they just threw all their rubbish out of the back door........

My son had a rat in te kitchen of one place, they found a hole in the skirting of a cupboard where they were coming in, so the landlord had to get the exterminators in

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 29 Jun 2013 21:42

I can't ever remember us doing that - maybe we were bad parents :-D

Do remember being appalled at the dreadful places my daughter lived in, in Lancaster - there were rats in the yard of one.

That is par for the course, been there got the t-shirt

Grand daughter shares a kitchen in Halls with six other students, two more girls, and four lads.
When daughter went down on a visit the other week she ended up in the kitchen cleaning saucepans etc, and sent out for more pan scrubbers :-D

LindainHerriotCountry Report 29 Jun 2013 21:25

Oh you would be surprised Tec :-D
Typical that her parents are doing it. The worst thing is having to clean a rental house before they move out when they have't touched it all year. I epecially loved cleaning the ovens

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 29 Jun 2013 21:21

Yes I expect that she could really do with one now - hope she got plenty of help clearing up after the party :-)

My daughter and SIL have gone down to Southampton to help grand daughter move into the house she will spend the next three years. Grand daughter has gone off to a party while parents pack up all her stuff in Halls :-D
They can't get into the house till Noon Monday.
How much stuff can a girl have in a small room after just a year? :-( :-D

Pity her mum can;t have a stiff drink now

I should imagine everyone is tired but happy after the celebrations :-D

Apparently the birthday girl is fast asleep after a very enjoyable time playing with her friends, it sounds like her mum won't be far behind her

Goodnight Berona
The party will be in full swing by now, she was very excited this morning. We spoke to her on Skype and she was already surrounded by piles of wrapping paper. We will be going down on Thursday,so will see her then.

First thing this morning, she already had her new balance bike, supergirl costume, a battery powered puppy on a lead, a hobby horse and new craft things. Non of the guests had arrived then, so she will have lots more by now.

She has some friends from nursery coming to her party, but earlier in the week, when I asked her who was coming to her party, she walked up to her mum, pointed at her tummy and said "my baby sister". My daughter was horrified at that thought as she still has six weeks to go

Just a line to let you know I'm still here. It has been cold (well, we think so!) and wet in most places. A couple of very light showers here but not enough to soak the pots - however, I can leave them a bit longer now. I believe it has been raining a lot where Sue is - and further in Sydney from here (on the coast). The latest 'record' is 'the wettest June for six years'. I don't know what that means, but they seem to have a record of some kind for the weather, every month lately.
Hope everyone is well. Can't believe that little Eve is 3 already! Time flies much too fast for me these days.
Good night from me. Going to take my Kindle to bed with me.

Hi Sue, and everyone

The rain has stopped here, and it is getting warmer

In fact, we now have a HEAT WARNING from Sunday on ...................... even Vancouver Council are making plans for ensuring that the citizens are safe, with cool places to go (eg, libraries open) and the extra drinking fountains operational.

The street people and homeless are a particular concern.

OH's cousin-by-marriage (that is, the husband of OH's cousin who died last year) is due to arrive on Monday morning .................. which is July 1st, or Canada Day

He's spent the last 3 weeks in Calgary .......... fortunately his friend's house was on a hill so they were safe from teh flooding.

B's comment on last weekend's flooding was a classic piece of British understatement ...................... "Calgary got a bit wet" :-D :-D

Now it seems that we are going to introduce him to what could be record high temperatures!

OH tried to phone niece's cell phone to see how she is ............. but had to leave a message on it.

Linda ............... you are quite right, it would have so much easier if they had been at home .................... her Mum lives in the same town!! Plus they have all kinds of friends, godparents, etc.

Take care everyone
