Good Evening Amanda,

I became most alarmed when I read that you were off to the Workhouse tomorrow - phew :-D I never allow that to happen.
Hope you enjoy the garden show - I would love to be there.

Sue I really like a well made pork pie. Not the cheap ones that are usually awful with soggy pastry.

Hello Amanda - having the grandchildren is great but can be tiring. It is the start of two weeks school holidays here and we have the children for four days of the second week. I hope the weather is ok by then. We have had over a week of rain - almost non-stop. The wettest June in years apparently.

Tec - how excited your granddaughter must be. What a wonderful time for her - leaving home, university and now moving into a house with friends. She is on her way!!

Sue , I am with you on the dislike of pork pies ..... I can vividly recall eating some as a child at an Aunties house , I was only young , maybe eight or less , but I ate it out of politness , it was horrid :-( I think it something to do with the jelly ( shudders at the thought ) !

I hate cheap pork pies Sue, but the butchers near us make their own on the premises and they are lovely. They have all sorts of different toppings on , such as cheese and red onion marmalade , or stuffing, or apple etc

It sounds like you really deserve your day out at the garden show Amanda

Hi Sue, and everyone

it is HOT here ..................... already up to around 27C in the back garden!!

I had 2 phone calls yesterday evening

Niece phoned ................. appendix removed at about 5 am Thursday morning. Back on the ward by 7 am.

Released from hospital Friday morning, and given permission to go back home .......... as long as her husband stopped the car frequently to allow A to get out and walk around.

Keyhole surgery, with no stitches, just steri-strips.

The funny one was that surgeon ended by saying something along the lines of "You don't have colon cancer in your family, but I would like you to go to your GP and ask to be tested, as there is some suggestion that appendicitis may be inked with polyps".

A goes, "errrrrrrrrrrrr ......... I do have a famly history of colon cancer". Gives him the history

"In that case, I definitely want you to go and get tested"!!!!!!

Hers was the 6th urgent appendectomy on Wednesday/Thursday ............... plus, her surgery was delayed. They were about to wheel her into the operating room at 1 am, when the anaesthetists on duty were both called away ........ 2 emergency cesareans!

second phone call .................

I think I have mentioned that we have been preparing to put our cabin on the market??

A friend down here who is a realtor put us in contact with one up there ........ and that one said he would go and look at the place and give us an "honest assessment"

He phoned last night .................. and I nearly fell off my chair.

His estimate is that we should get about double the price that we have thinking possible :-D :-D

he admits it will need a very special person who falls in love with the 20 acres, etc ............ so we may have to wait.

But still ........................ :-D :-D :-D

The sign is already up, even though we have not yet signed a contract with him ............. he said that 4 cars drove past the farm gate while he was there, and this is a Long Weekend, so he thought it good to get the information out there ........... while hoping we would not object

Now waiting for him to email us the contract, so we can read and sign.

Meanwhile, OH was out for the evening, and had met someone we know who lives up in that area ............. and said the realtor we had been referred was "Excellent"!!! Nice to know.

:-D :-D :-D :-D

here's hoping we don't have wait too long for that special person!

I'm not in Bakewell either - but I can buy Bakewell tart.

Cumberland sausage, Yorkshire ham, and so on.

Yorkshire curd tarts are lovely. One thing I can't abide are pork pies. OH's family can't believe it :-0 Apparently there is a butcher near where some of the family live who make award winning pies. I tried one and I didn't like it. They thought it was an Aussie thing :-D

Good evening / good morning :-)

Linda , it is nice to know that the little birthday girl had a lovely day , I hope her Mummy has been able to put her feet up and rest by now .

Sue , I haven't read back beyond this page but am guessing you have had some rain ? :-) I hope today will be a bit brighter .

Tec , I hope your Grand daughter soon settles in to her new home .

I seem to have had one of those weeks when I've drowned in Grand children , far to much " emergancy " baby sitting , not " emergancy " as in anything to horrendious , thankfully but none the less exhausting from my point of view .

We did manage to " escape " on one day for a few hours to the boat and endulged in a spot of fishing , I didn't catch anything , a result with which I was quite pleased as I was enjoying just sitting there ....lol
OH caught a BIG sea Bass , we had one fillet of it for dinner yesterday :-D

Tomorrow we are off to the workhouse , well Gressinghall actually , as there is a garden show going on and OH is going to man the " Master Gardeners " stall . I am just going to wander around soaking up the atmosphere of the place and look at the stalls etc :-D

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 29 Jun 2013 22:36

You can buy it in the deli, but it is much easier just to buy the tart ready made

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 29 Jun 2013 22:34

Sue you were in the garden, and probably thrown scraps - only guests coming through the front door were offered treats. :-D

Where do you get curd cheese from? all sounds rather nice though :-)

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 29 Jun 2013 22:31

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 29 Jun 2013 22:29

It is a pastry case with curd cheese inside it. Some recipes have currants in and some have a very thin layer of lemon surd under the curd cheese

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 29 Jun 2013 22:29

We didn't get cheese scones or Yorkshire curd tarts when we stayed :-\

It's not raining at the moment and looks a bit brighter outside. Forecast for showers today and clearing by tomorrow. We'll see.

Linda - I love the photo of Eve in her Superwoman outfit. She is a lovely little girl.....or should I say big girl. She's all of three now :-0

That's jolly kind of you Linda,

is a Yorkshire curd tart different to a lemon curd tart? just asking :-)
