Amanda you are right - I am the same age as the Stones, but I think I've worn a little better, probably because I've lived a blameless life.

Bye the way, I met the Beach Boys, twice. Very nice ordinary guys

Sue ...................

I wonder if the mother was committed to the workhouse by her parents because she had illegitimate children??

That was quite common at one time.

so was committing a woman going through menopause, or who had bad pre-menstrual tension

If you could get access to the workhouse records, you might get more information. OR her death certificate might tell you something.

I have heard the name Tec but can't think of any of their songs off the top of my head , I shall go and google :-)

I didn't like the Beatles much either.

I had strange tastes in music when I was younger. I don't suppose anyone has ever heard of Barclay James Harvest - I have all their albums :-)

Sue , that is a sad story :-( but as you say , finding out all the " whys " of that sort of situation is impossiable .

I like the Stones and the Beatles but I love the Beach Boys <3

I didn't mind the Stones. OH, daughter and youngest son went to see them when they were out here a few years ago. They loved it but I wasn't too bothered about seeing them.

Amanda2003 Report 29 Jun 2013 23:08

I'm surprised you don't like the Stones Tec , I don't think it is anything to do with your age , they are probably the same age as you :-D

I much preferred the Stones to the Beatles, they have Mick Taylor playing with them Amanda

I have an ancestor who had two boys without a husband and the three were placed in a workhouse. The children grew up, married and had children. They seem to have done quite well for themselves. Their mother remained in the workhouse for years before dying age 46 although there were plenty of family living in the area including her parents. A sad story but of course we don't know all the ins and outs of why things like that happened.

Thanks Linda , at least I know now that it isn't all down to my klonking old banger of a computer ....lol

Sue , there is a pork pie lurking in my fridge right now , OH bought is as part of his picnic lunch tomorrow , he has started on it already :-|

but it is very difficult to get a decent one over here :-(

I got the error page for the umpteenth time tonight, then couldn't escape from it - then there were lots of posts on the page.

Hello Sylvia, I hope your niece is feeling better now - that was a nasty experience. Good luck with the sale of the cabin - 20 acres? you could have started a donkey sanctuary - I would :-D

Yes Sue - things are moving fast for grand daughter - main thing is she loves the course she is on. She starts marine diving school in September.

I am not and never have been a fan of the Stones - maybe I am odd, because everyone else seemed to love them - must be my age :-D

It is GR playing up Amanda, a new glitch different from the usual message

I have a couple in my tree who died in the workhouse Amanda, but I think it was more a case that they were in the hospital ward part

Apparently the butcher near where some of the family lives is excellent and has won prizes for his pork pies. He also makes ham and egg pies which are quite nice. OH loves pork pies but doesn't like the ones that can be bought here so he does without.

Hello Sylvia - I hope you get the asking price for your property and it sells soon. There are a few houses near us that are up for sale. Most of them seem to go fairly quick but one house has been on the market for about a year. It's a nice looking house so I don't know why it hasn't sold. I hope your niece isn't too worried - at least if there are polyps they can be sorted before they turn into anything nasty.

Oos , sorry about the multipul postings , either my pc is being more stupid than ever or GR is playing up as well :-S

I am quite looking forward to seeing the workhouse , I have not discovered that any of my folk ever ended up in such a place in the past but it is still an important part of history :-)
Apparently there is a walled garden as well :-D

I hope you are lucky and sell the cabin quickly Sylvia.

Cheap pork pies are disgusting, revolting pastry, pink gristle and lots of jelly. Yuk. The dreadful sausages you buy in the supermarkets are awful as well, pale pink mechanically reclaimed sludge, I wouldn't give them house room

Amanda2003

Amanda2003 Report 29 Jun 2013 22:51

Enjoy Linda :-) OH is recording it so I'll watch later .

Hello Sylvia , I hope your niece soon recovers from her op and that you manage to sell your cabin swiftly . I hope it doesn't get silly hot for you .
