This has been a very hot day indeed.

I was just regaining consciousness this morning, sitting quietly in the kitchen wondering what to do today, when the doorbell went. Answering the door I found two likely looking lads, toolboxes at the ready.
They had turned up unexpectedly to take out the old fireplace.
That sent me into panic mode as I wasn't ready for them, and the room needed preparing. Clutter needed removing to a place of safety etc.
Anyway they got cracking, and in not time, after making a lot of noise with a hammer drill, cutting bricks and masonry, the room looked like a bomb had gone off, with tools, cables, and rubble everywhere.
Now the old fireplace has gone, and we are left with a massive hole in it's place.
They re-cemented around the hole ( where a very fat Father Christmas could easily drop down) and will be back tomorrow to start fitting the new fireplace.
The Duchess and I spent the day in the kitchen while mayhem ensued :-D

Can't wait to see it finished. :-)

I see your point, Tec - not a problem that can easily be solved.

Goodnight - I hope you have another good night's sleep <3

Tecwyn Report 7 Jul 2013 23:43

I understand what you are saying Sue - but it has to be said that they are roll models, and have a lot of influence, particularly with their young followers.
When you have the privilege and skill to be selected to represent your country then it is to be expected that your behaviour is consistent with that position.

We have had examples when our soccer stars behave like hooligans off the pitch, and sometimes on it.
Yes some of them are young, and some very wealthy - that's fine, but they must remember they are in the public eye, and as such should behave accordingly regardless of the pressures.

There speaks fuddy duddy of the week, who was never young, and always behaved impeccably, even under pressure :-D

Well it's bed time again,
Enjoy your day Sue - hope the sun shines,
Hello Berona, and Persie,

Goodnight,
Tec.

We are having a lot of problems with rugby players here in Australia partly because of the amount of pressure that is placed on them. They are expected to behave at all times because they are a role model for youngsters - this I think is unfair because a lot of them are very young too. They seem to get into trouble with drinking, drugs and often violence. A lot of them are indigenous and the total change in lifestyle is so difficult for them to handle.

I used to greatly admire the Aussie tennis players and cricketers. Like you, I never liked McEnroe, and still don't like him commentating on tv.

I am not sorry that Serena Williams was knocked out this year - time to let some new talent through. The French girl that won was good, and her opponent the German girl was overcome by stagefright which was a shame as I think she will have a great future when she can handle the the occasion,

I think you're right about most countries going through a sporting slump. We had such characters in the cricket - Dennis Lillee, Rodney Marsh, the Chappell brothers. They were such fun to watch. I used to enjoy watching the tennis too when Agassi was playing and also Bjorn Borg. I didn't like McEnroe with his silly tantrums but I know the crowds loved him.

Tecwyn Report 7 Jul 2013 23:10

Not many ordinary home have air-con here. Supermarkets and shopping malls do now, and of course it's in most modern cars.

I think most countries go through a sort of sports slump. We had a period when we couldn't win anything. Then new talent comes along, and we start winning again.
I am not very optimistic about our chances in the football World Cup.

The trouble is I think the sports facilities for training youngsters is generally very poor in the UK compared to most Western countries.

SueMaid Report 7 Jul 2013 22:47

Well I have to admit 30C is hot although bearable when there is air conditioning in homes, cars and shopping centres. I think that's the problem in Britain - very little air conditioning.

I was very pleased to hear that Andy Murray has won. Well done Andy - he has played very well.

I think Aussie sport is in a slump. We don't have those wonderful characters in cricket anymore and no superstars in tennis either although I do like Sam Stosur. Our football team has got through to the World Cup and we are very excited about that but they will need a lot of hard work if they are to get anywhere.

Goodnight Amanda, sleep well - without the moths for company :-D

Good Morning Sue,

I hate to hear that little ones are hurt.

I watched Wimbledon all afternoon, first time a Brit has won the final for 77 years.
Well done Andy Murray - delighted for him.

What do you mean "Pfft 28 C"
That's hot for us penguins, and tomorrow could be 30 C.
There's something very un-British about that nonsense :-D

SueMaid Report 7 Jul 2013 22:30

28C....pfffft.

Looks like I've just missed you again Linda - I hope you have a safe journey home <3

Poor little Tommy - it bought a tear to my eye reading about his little hand. A friend of mine has a little grandson in Canada. When he was just a year old he used a gas heater to pull himself up and badly burned both his hands. He is 3 now and you wouldn't know by looking at his little hands. My friend was beside herself.

I can well understand your nerves being shot - all those little accidents at once :-0

My daughter has decided no parties in August when the twins and Drew have their birthdays. She does it every year but has decided on just a tea party for family this time. I don't blame her :-D

Joel has decided he doesn't like girls because they like kissing apparently :-0

Goodnight Linda - have a safe journey, sleep well, and it was a red kite :-D

Amanda, Maybe later they may be able to exercise Tommy's fingers to keep them supple - I hope so, poor little lad.

28 C here tomorrow - I will hide in my grotto in the shade

Good night Linda , safe journey home tomorrow and I hope you have a lovely day visiting with your son :-)

The sky here has gone a wonderful shade of " duck egg blue " and I can just make out the fat bodies of Moths flitting about in the gloom :-) I do hope none off them flit into my bedroom and lay in wait for me or they will be pandamonium come bedtime ......lol

Amanda2003 Report 7 Jul 2013 22:17

Clever kiddies in your area Tec :-) round here the best you would get is " there is a big bird " lol

Linda , his hand is bound up in bandage and with a sock pulled over it to stop him pulling it off at the moment . I guess it will have to stay bound up for a couple of months . I'm a bit worried about the fact his fingers are so curled up inside the bandage but I suppose they will sort themselves out in the future , as you so rightly say , keeping the wounds clean is the most important thing at the moment .

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 7 Jul 2013 22:09

It must be very difficult to keep the blisters clean with such a tiny one Amanda, if they get infected it can be a problem

Leo obviously has no taste - or tact :-D

I overheard a conversation from 8 yr olds today.

Girls voice "Look there's a buzzard up there"

Boys voice "It's not a buzzard, it's a red kite"

Another girls voice " It's a buzzard"

Boys voice "It's a red kite - that's the trouble with girls, they think they know everything, when actually the know begger all" (polite version) :-D

He was right, it was a red kite :-)

Tec , I'm glad your daughter didn't end up scared for life . They do say that most accidents happen in the kitchen don't they :-(
I hope you enjoyed your local eggs , five double yolkers ...wow :-D

Linda , Eve sounds like a very girly girl :-)
